Default Noob needs help

Was running my 3.3 revo today about half throttle when it made a popping noise and engine died. Tried restarting with ez start and engine wouldnt turn over. I know very little about rcs as i just bought this one used last week. Have ran about 3 tanks thru it never really going over half throttle with no problems till today. Any ideas?

Yes, u should be able to see the top of the head a little. But like one of the others mentioned; u might wanna take the engine head off and inspect it to check for anything unusual. Also, u may also want to take the engine off the chassis, take the backplate off and carefully have a look around the inside of the engine there; its possible the connecting rod or pin or something else may have broken apart; in which case its pretty much done for......

Which has a hole in it? If u are saying the bottom of the inside of the head has a hole in it, thats suppose to be there(where the glow plug goes through); but if ur talking on the piston head itself; then yes there is definitely something not right there. Can u get some pics and post them here for us to have a look at? Cause that would definitely help.....

LOL Bought it from a guy off RCU. He said less than a gallon run through it. He sent bill of sale for a new 3.3 motor purchased in oct. 08. Like i said, ran good for at least 3 tanks of fuel at half throttle or less since i wanted to learn to drive it before i gave it heck. Was running good today then POW. She was dead.

I would describe exactly what happened... you were driving, and boom, now there is a whole in your piston!

Oops. Found receipt and the engine was bought in August 08. Do you think traxxas will help me out. If they dont what should i do? Buy new 3.3, rebuild if I can or go to different engine? Thanks all for you help!

wow... well at least you broke it right! I don't know how that could happen... Will the piston move at all? take the motor out of the chassis and pull the backplate off. See if you can find that piece of the piston. I bet that is stopping it from turning over. If you get it to turn over I would pull the sleeve out and check the con rod, crank and bearings.

What does the head look like? Any divots or scratches?

Well you can get a piston and sleeve for 50 bucks... and a new motor for 110 or somewhere around there so it's a matter of whats still good. If you can save the con rod, crank, and bearings then I would just put a piston and sleeve in it... save yourself 60 bucks.

All I can say is HOLY MOLY!!!! WHAT THE HECK DID U DO TO THAT THING!!!! [X(] Just kidding...I know it wasnt ur fault; but see the thing is; if u call traxxas and explain to them what happened; Im not sure if they will warranty it because they might try and tell ya it was ur fault; and that without them seeing it in person, they can't make a exact determination without the engine in hand. But on the other hand, they might tell ya just to send it back to them and they will either rebuild it, or replace the entire engine at no charge; Traxxas does have EXCELLENT support; however; in a case like this they may not make a exception; imo it would be up to them to determine what happened......
