Default When to shim a head

OK need a little help. Can anyone help me out on the art of head shimming?
When going to 30% or 33% nitro fuel. How do I know when to shim or not?
And how do you figure out, how much you need to shim???
Are there any links or books I can check out on this subject.[sm=confused.gif]

Thanks in advance!!

I went from 20% to 30% with the stock 3.3, and didn't have to shim the head.
