The Revos in my opin are great trucks out of the box. The only thing that I have done to mine that really didnt have to be done is replace the front skid plate with an aluminum one and replaced the stock clutch with 3 piece aluminum clutch. Oh yea I also did replace the spur gear with a steel one as well. Hope this helps.

I haven't done almost anything to my Revo. I put a wing on for looks. Makes it look more like a truggy which is cool. I did also get a new pipe for it. Not the buku, but the other nice one lol I forgot what it's called. Performance is great. I wouldn't get a steel spur because you could mess up the internal gears and not just strip the spur gear. I have raped my Revo sideways and have yet to mess up much of anything while bashing. Only stripped a spur gear. Only time I break stuff is while racing. Just blew a shock and stripped gears inside the gearbox that make the wheels turn. ONE THING I would do is upgrade as you break stuff, not before because you may never break the parts that you replaced.
