brushed or brushless?

I know I want an E-maxx but is brushless worth the extra money? I would also like waterproof but is it worth it also? thnx

Please reply if you know about these. I have experience in RC but mostly nitro and only vintage electric. I'm looking to get back into RC but electric and I'm trying to decide. I would like waterproof but is it worth the slower speed of the brushed motors. ?

How much do you have your heart set on an E-Maxx? IMHO there are better trucks out there for the money. As for brushed vs brushless. Brushed is pretty slow but if you were to get the brushed version you could get yourself a cheap waterproof brushless system like the WP-SC8, I think it costs around $160. If you're not familiar with brushless power I have only one word to describe it, INSANE, on 4S it's a handful, 6S is just nuts.

You should check out a few other trucks before you buy like the MT4-G3, E-Revo or even the Rival. The E-Maxx isn't all that bad but it does need a few upgrades like better bulks to make it a decent basher.

Thanks for the opinion on this, I will check out these other trucks, but I have owned revos before so I know I don't want another now. I really like the emaxx and I'm familiar with traxxas and like the parts availability and such.... a waterproof brushless would be awesome, but that would be a later upgrade. I also like that the emaxx is waterproof out of box.

If your set on an Emaxx get the 3903, then come summer upgrade the motor & esc to the water resistant brushless set up.
If you get the 3908 now you'll still need to upgrade the brushless esc to a water resistant version.

right, thanks

Friends don't let friends buy an Emaxx.... :/

As for brushed vs brushless, if its not a crawler or a drifter, brushless by a mile. Just the 'no maintenance' aspect of brushless would make it worth it even if it weren't for the huge torque gains which seal the deal.

Get a Thunder Tiger MT4 G3, you won't regret it.

Large Larry 11-21-2013 06:22 PM

MT4 G3 still needs a chassis brace and stronger hinge pins from the get go. There's no such thing as a perfect MT right out of the box. E-Maxx isn't great and still needs upgrades but it's also not as bad as a lot of people make out.

domindart 11-22-2013 03:21 AM

Ya, I don't know why all the hate for emaxx..... A lot of people run them... anyways, I'm also considering the Axial EXO Terra..... might go with that buggy , seems like a neat one

Foxy 11-22-2013 08:45 AM

Yeh, what do I know. I'm just a hater without a clue. :)

and that's just the MTs/truggies... ;)

Large Larry 11-22-2013 05:54 PM

badboy2 11-22-2013 08:41 PM

I tried the stock emaxx before and i think the bl is worth the money and lipos of course.

domindart 11-23-2013 03:31 AM

I'm still on the fence

I really like the emaxx and it is fully waterproof, how much fun is that?:!:?! lol

But I found a r/c track close to home and they don't race MT or exo terra buggy so I might get something they race Idk...

I wish they did race exo cause I like that one

domindart 11-24-2013 06:27 AM

Now I'm thinking about getting a SCT cause they race those at my track

I remain on the fence
