RE: dye tires/wheels??
It might cause the glue to come loose.

RE: dye tires/wheels??
The glue will come off while dying because the wheels have to sit in simmering water for the dye to work. The longer you keep the wheels in the water the darker the color will be. Be patient and its messy.

RE: dye tires/wheels??
its will also ruin your tire foams if you put the tires in water....

RE: dye tires/wheels??
What kind of dye do you guys use for the rims? is it like the regular dye that you can buy at wallmart?

twomanytoys 11-18-2007 02:40 PM

RE: dye tires/wheels??
its called RIT dye. You can get it at most grocerie stores, fabric stores and hobby stores but not rc hobby stores. Walmart might hav it in thier fabric section. Its a fabric dye and also works great on white plastic wheels.

RE: dye tires/wheels??
will the dye fade on the wheels for a long period of time?

twomanytoys 11-18-2007 03:22 PM

RE: dye tires/wheels??
The dye will not fade at all. It gets down deep into the plastic and the longer you leave it in the darker it gets. Just be very careful with it because it will make a mess and it really stains everything it touches.

dying won't ruin the foams as such, but it could get lots of water in your tires which would be a big pita! bake off your tires. preheat an oven to 375 degrees. turn off the oven. put in your tires/wheels for 15 minutes. put on gloves. squeeze the tires from the rims, then dye your rims and the re-glue. or use spray paint. much simpler, quicker and easier.

RE: dye tires/wheels??
the paint will flake off where the dye changes the color of the plastic

RE: dye tires/wheels??
If you have white wheels then just use RIT dye and you'll be fine. If you have chromed rims you need to remove the chrome. I used oven cleaner after seeing it done on others, worked great. Just spray on and come back a few hours later then rinse in water.

RE: dye tires/wheels??
ok soo ur saying if i put oven cleaner on my wheels it will make them white so then i can dye them????? my friend spray painted his and wants to know if it will take that off to?

RE: dye tires/wheels??
I've used oven cleaner on rims and bumpers, worked greast but they were chromed. Not sure if it will remove paint. I would bet it would as long as the paint had no dye in it.
