hyflyer9,
Hey! Not so fast.
What is the wingspan?
The hatch. The hardest issue is hiding the HDWE that holds it in place.
Cut your hole, clean it up. Glue four triangle plywood pieces in the corner, recessed, to except the hatch cover. Blind nuts can be used.
An elastic band can be used which will retract and hold the hatch without HDWE. "Eye" bolt on the hatch.
OK, that's two ways.
There's plenty others.
Don't forget the plans and the Build Thread.
Good luck!
Charles

RE: help needed for building a removeable hatch in a DC3
Well so far all i have done is cut it nice and clean from the back edge of the nose cone to the front of the leading edge bulk head. F1 to F4 bulk heads along the point marks just above to cabin floor and the plan is to clue new laminated bulk heads flush into the front and back of the cut out hatch. I will also add some stringers on the inside where to two half's meet when joined and i plan to use the wing dowel leading edge mounts for the wing to also hold the back edge of the battery hatch in place by drilling the holes to match in the added F4A laminated bulk heads. and use some sort of latch or screw mount at the F1 former or bulk head and please keep in mind that this planes design does not use any stringers between the former's and these former's are also hollow . I am adding a better Photo of that section of the plans that I am talking about here .if you have any other ideas that would help please feel free to add what you can.
Thanks.
Daniel.
