It is a Four Star 120 converted to tricycle landing gear using robart 630's with oleo struts, and twin Zenoah G-23's. 81" Span, and has detachable outer wing panels. The aircraft will have flaps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Killer plane! Expect good things from it. The 4 star series are good planes and seem to be pretty good candidates for conversion to twins. I converted a 4 star 60 to a twin with LA 40's and am enjoying it.

A few more of the Four Star 223 at the field for the 1st time. Didn't fly yet, as have a few things to resolve after the 1st engine startups.

Things to resolve:

Had fuel leaking out of tank, so have to change lines to Medium instead of Large. However, to do this have to take center wing off and cowls, mufflers. Need to add a skid on the back as the gear should have been put back 1 more inch to keep from tilting back every now and then with the breeze. Other than that it should be ready to fly after these changes have been made and tested out.

Weight: Approx 20 lbs, with a 32 oz fuel tank located on the CG.

1st Flight Today!!!

Taxis great with no tendency to tip towards any wingtip in a sharp turn. The plane took off at 3/4 throttle after 250 ft, with no flaps. Only needed a couple clicks of down trim, and a click of left aileron. Flew great, sounded awesome.

Landing was good. Have to keep some power on during the approach as it slows down fast, chopped the power after assuring the runway and proceeded with final flare. Settled very nicely.

Great plane, can't wait to fly it again soon...

Update - Flew the Four Star 5 more times and flys great, even had a engine out. The plane was weak in the tail part, which upon a hard landing caused it to snap in 1/2 and tear out a nacalle. So, Now in the process of builing a new bird with modifications ( enhancements from the previous design, with a all built-up wood wing. )

Is anyone interested in seeing construction pics of the new B model?

Let me know...

Sealance, Where is your flying site located ? What club? Yes, yes, its a great looking plane and all that, but the photos of where your flying at are beautiful and caught my attention. Can you post a couple of panoramic photos ? My "wives" are raving over the ones you've posted. They'ed sure like to fly there [and yes, they are both AMA ] MM. [ Bill , I can hardly wait for the responses on this one]

Mike:

It has also been said that a bigamist is a man with one wife too many. Or in Italy it's what they call a dense fog.

The worst thing about two wives is two mothers-in-law.

Cleveland Amory, an author of tongue-in-cheek history, in his book "It All Started with Columbus," called one of the prominent Mormons of the past "Bigamy Young."

Haw twice. Or three times. Maybe four.

Bill.

Response to question #1, The "mother-in-law" [ note: non-plural] is dead. That makes the two "wives" sisters. And to really add insult to injury, one is blond, the other, brunette. Actually guys, [before sombody gets angry at me , the one is divorced from a real bad person, so to get her back on her feet [ and no, I dont have her on her back] I help her where needed around the house [all legally] These two are well-trained. the one can flip through a Futaba 9CA and set it for whatever is needed, the other pre-flights and starts up the plane all while I sit back in a folding chair and wait till the one hands me the TX. After, you take them out and buy them a nice meal, maybe a dress they were looking at earlier at the mall and before you know it, they are eating out of your hand. Nice kids. Lastly, yup, I am ITALIAN and the denser the fog, the better. Oops, They still want to know where that flying site is. Seeya, MM

Looks great. Two cents on B model. How effective was the rudder? Might consider larger rudder movable area similar to the Ultimate style. Helps with engine out, but as the rudder is not directly in prop blast, helps with things like knife edge and hammer heads. Were the engines mixed to the rudder?
Keep up the good work. I like the fact that it is gas and small.
If the landing speed was high and you do not want to increase wing length, consider to add wing plates, 3/4" above and below the wing tips. Makes a hugh increase in lift without adding lenght and helps knife edge.......A BUNCH.
Good work and thank you for sharing.

The new version of the aircraft will have a slightly larger rudder, although the plane flew great with the existing rudder size. Few other mods are on the books too, but it is still being determined which ones will get put in for this new version.

Would any twin guys be interested in a kit of this aircraft, or one similiar to it in size?

My friend is building another with me, with some additional modifications and is considering 1.2 - 1.8 four strokes, which would reduce landing weight. However, the sounds of the twin G-23's was hard to imagine, and beat!

Here are a couple pics of what Twinman is refering to with 'wing plates'...
Basically what they do is stop the airflow from going off the wing tip, keeping
the flow more in line with the cord <leading edge to trainling edge>...
The yellow things are the wing plates..

Landing speed was slow, as long as you kept a little power on the whole way on final. However, I am used to flying my MB-339 and F-80 so I might be byassed on what is slow on approach. The all balsa version of the plane is looking like it will be a few pounds lighter, at least so far.

The new aircract is going to have a CF main spar, which is incrediably strong and light. Will try to post some building pics, once I get new batteries for my digital camera.

Thats a Big Stik 60 ARF from Great Planes that I rebuilt for someone..

Has two .46 FX's on it.. Not a rocketship, but a real pleasure to fly..

When the guy originally built it he used 9 standard servos thru-out which
proved to be disastrous wiping out the plane..
Now it has 945 on rudder, 635 on elev .. GP says balance is at 4",, I have it
at 4ΒΌ".. I have found that even a stock Big Stik balances out a little nose
heavy hence the extra rearward..

However, rather than hi-jack SL's thread,, more on this later...
