When at Bomber Field look for a trailer with "Bare Hill Gentilemans Club" on the sides with pictures of blue Corsair and Orange Zero - That Be US - Stop and say Hi, look forward to meeting you.
PS: The Zeroli Corsair pictured on trailer no longer exist. Lost it at Bomber Field two years ago due to wing spar failure after 12 years - Darn that still hurts.
OH Yea: THe USC vs Texas game is starting. From a avid Hard Core OU Sooner fan - "HOOK EM HORNS - GO TEXAS"

Check with Shawn at www.hackerbrushless.com. He's preparing one for demo flying at the upcoming Arizona Electric Festival. With the propulsion packages he's installing, performance should be spectacular. Overpowered....to say the least!
I've been flying the 52" version with retracts and a pair of the new Hacker A30 brushless outrunners with great results.

Heres the pic on forward retacting nose gear. Should finish gear doors soon, get wing painted and start assembly.

Dmyers:

Question about the retracts since I am going to start one of these planes in the near future. In looking at picture one it appears if the gear retracts forward the strut would enter the fuselage first. However in picture two it it just the opposite with the wheel in first. Does the gear rotate as is retracts or am I looking at this wrong?

Randy.

In picture two you're looking at the gear from the TOP of the fuselage (not up from the gear well). The strut enters first, and there's no rotation.

Got my semi scale struts from Lenny today, they are fantastic. They look and work great. I can't wait to install them. Unfortunatly I left my camera in California so pictures will have to wait until next week. I believe everyone will be pleased with his product.

A little help gentlemen,
During the building process I was concerned that I might be very nose heavy but much to my surprise when I procedded to balance the Bronco I had to add 24 oz. in the furthest forward section of the nose to get it balanced. I have installed the springair retracts and the engines are O.S. LA 65. So as I see it the retracts and engines which are bigger than what the kit specs call for and all this weight is forward of the CG I should be nose heavy and I am 24oz. nose light. I have the reciever installed on the under side of the wing as per the recomendations in the instructions which also is mostly ahead of the CG point. The only weight behind is the 4 cell 2100MA nicad battery that is on the under side of the wing just slightly behind the CG. So why am I so tail Heavy?? I do know that one option would be to move the battery from the wing and put it forward but that is a minimal shift of weight compared to 24 oz. of lead I now have in the nose. Duh!! what am I missing ?? any suggestions ? has anyone else experienced this problem. My total weight with nose weight in is 19lbs. 5 ounces. If I shifted the battery forward could I add another 4 cell nicad 600 ma in parallel to give me additional power and weight in the nose instead of hauling all that lead around? I would include a picture if I could figure out how to post it with this message.

Thanks fella's

Yes, my Bronco required a lot of lead also. I have a large 3000ma battery up front and 2 Saito 1.00 twins and still had to add weight . I have forgotten how much and gross weight but am about to put my new struts on and will need to rebalance and will let you know how it comes out. I'll try and do it tonight if I can ever finish all this stinking paperwork

What you are experiencing is NORMAL... Most Aircraft with long tail moments (like a Zero) and short noses will require additional nose weight.. THE OS LA.65 are not that heavy compared to a 4Stroke and don't help to counteract the tail heavy situation as they sit so close to the CG in relation to the nose.. So ...Move the Battery as you were suggesting and add a second one for functional weight to get your BRONCO in the right CG!! You are thinking correct here... Nothing wrong...Normal.. and dont worry too much about the weight... Your Bronco has a ton of wing area and will fly just nicely!!

I would agree with that. This plane has a huge wing and it shouldn't be a problem.

Not to worry, guys. Remember, the twin boom configuration of the OV-10 puts an extra set of EVERYTHING aft of the CG. Having to add a significant amount of weight to get the balance correct is not unusual and I would be surprised if anyone got by with having to add no weight. The worst case scenario I'm aware of (so far) is a gentleman who sheeted all the open structure of the wing, glassed and painted the finish, added a whole lot of surface and exterior detail AND a cockpit........the end result was a 26 pound Bronco!.......and it still flew!
Enjoy your OV's!!

Thanks everone I feel a little better now and have ordered a bigger heavier sub C battery.

This year I built a Cessna 182 from Greatplanes with an OS 70 Surpass , a World Models Ultimate 40 with a OS 52 Surpass, a second spare Hobbico 60 Select Trainer with a OS LA 65. I have two now so I have a crash backup as I am still a RC beginer pilot. I can tell you that for a full scale Pilot, RC flying is much harder to learn.
I do think I am getting there and soloed RC in about four weeks. Now I need practice and also develope my building skills so I really appreciate your help.

Gents,

Here are some construction photos of the 80" Bronco ARF. The wing is pretty much per the instructions. One servo was moved in the engine pods to clear the wheels. The air system and control panel are in the fuselage. The engines are RCV SP90s with 15.75x13 APC three blade props. 16 oz fuel tanks in the pods. Started on the SpringAir instalation. Had to double up the bulkhed for the firewall nose gear. Lenny's struts are supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I will post more gear installation photos as I go. I will wait til after the gear is in to decide on battery placement.
Any questions or comments, feel free to ask.

Doug

Here are a couple of photos that wouldn't fit on the first post. They are the air / switch panel, the opening aft fuselage, the rudder setup and one more cowl shot.
Has anyone tried a one servo pull-pull setup for the nose wheel steering? I'm still trying to figure that out.

Doug,
Very nice ideas! I really like your "back door" switch set-up. Is that a rare earth magnet for a latch? Do you think it will hold in a rough landing? What kind of hinges for the door did you use?

Also was wondering what your receiver/servo set up is since I think I saw 2 Matchboxes on your previous wing photo. Also like the size of your "Expert" on board glow driver. Much smaller than others I've used/seen. Does it drive both plugs? What size battery sill it use. Where can I get one?

I am also attaching a couple of photos of my Shindin retracts after I painted them Bronco white!

Thanks for your photos and info!

Your struts look great! I cant wait for mine.
That is a magnet for the latch. I won't know if it holds til I fly it. I will have some tape just in case. The hinges are gear door hinges from TamJets. www.tamjets.com
I'm running a JR 649 receiver, JR 4131s on ailerons and elevators, JR 811s on the rudders and JR 4721s on the flaps. I used the matchboxes on the elevator and flaps because I hate binding servos and flaps that don't match. Probably overkill, but I had them available.
The Expert glow driver came from Horizon Hobbies. On a single engine setup, it takes a 4.8v pack to run it. On a twin it needs 6.0v.
