RE: OV-10 Bronco 80" ARF
Well I have been building a Bronco (Uravitch) now for about a year off and on between other projects.
This plane will use: 4 flap servos, 2 Throttle, 2 rudder, 1 retract, 2 ailerons, 2 elevator.
I split the elevator halves for redundancy. All servos and horns except for the elevator are hidden. Used torsional control rods on the ailerons. Running wires into the horizontal stab for the two elevator servos. 2 Match Boxes, Go-Slow on the flaps. Century Jet retracts. Scale cockpit. Machine gun sound module on an extra channel (running out of those).
Using Supertiger 75's w/ 3 blade props and in-cowl mufflers behind the firewall. Color scheme is olive drab on top and grey on bottom.
Still have a good bit of work to do before ready to cover. Probably won't be ready until spring.
Cheers,
flyalan

So no One out there have any more news?? I heard it is difficult to mount retracts and that is all need flying reports and actual customer feedback as to quality of actual accessories/kit...The KMP version is coming out around DEC..and it too is built up and is larger around 92" due to the competition..but will come with revised retracts that are supposed to be copies of spring air units...hmmmm

It's hard to believe no one has pictures of the real ARF OV-10 by R.U. And no flight reports after all this time ???
There has to be somebody out there that has purchased this ARF and took pictures while building....... And know has a handle on flight performance.
??????? Anybody out there ???????

RE: OV-10 Bronco 80" ARF
I have one... been futsing around with it for quite a few months. I have 2 Tower 75s in it which should be more than enough power. The big problem with it is the nose gear, specifically the nosegear bulkhead which is only 1/16". The nosegear mounts at the bottom of the bulhead between two rails. These rails are for retract gear (I assume, since there is no instruction whatsoever as to how to mount retracts) and pass through the bulkhead further weakening it. The gear collapsed while moving the model around for final fit, and then again on the first takeoff attempt. For that takeoff, I had reenforced the bulkhead with a 1/4" ply doubler. Again, it is the rails that weaken the bulkhead (no room to get reenforcement under the rails) along with the mounting of the gear so low on the bulkhead. My next step will be to cut the rails off at the bulkhead and replace the whole thing with a new 1/4" piece. I'll use the rails where they are cut off as support for the bulkhead and probably replace the cheesy nosegear mount with something wider that spreads the load over a greater part of the bulkhead.
Between the thin bulkhead, the rails coming through that bulkhead, the low mount of the nosegear and the leverage generated by the angle back of the nosegear strut, I don't see how this could ever support this model.
Dale

RE: OV-10 Bronco 80" ARF
Steve,
Never got it off the ground, although I tried. The engines only had one previous run (in my back yard) and it took 3 takeoff runs to get them to handle full throttle (needle settings) without shutting down. That third run was when the nose gear collapsed all the way, preventing any takeoff.
This thing is a bear to put together at the field. Even though I have a full-size SUV, I can't fit the wing/nacels/horiz stab assembled in there, so there is a full assembly at the field. Each nacel has 3 servo connections (throttle, elev, rudd) and its a balacing act to get the pin(s) in the wing, plug in the servos and get each screwed in (2 screws each) without pinching wires. Then there is the center section, with the battery lead and steering servo, that the rest of the assembled structure (including the 8 screws holding the horiz stab on) has to plug into, along with it's two wing hold-down screws. To cut down on the potential of any of those plugs being loose and to eliminate the hangar rash from constantly assembling and disassembling, this model really needs to stay together. That means either a big van or trailer that can hold it.

Yes sounds like a trailer might be the ticket Dale, that sure is a lot of assembly work at the field. Thanks for the replies and keep us up to date on your progress.

You Bronco fans might want to check out the special "pre-Flying season" pricing on both the 52" and 80" ScaleTech ARFs on the Hobby Hangar web site, www.hobbyhangar.com.
BTW, my Bronco fits in my Astro van completely assembled with only the fuselage removed; only the NWS servo, battery lead and retract air lines need be connected.

Jim,
I have the cockpit kit from Dynamic Balsa, I was going to install it in the used Bronco I bought but after careful consideration I've decided the airplane is not worthy of it.
Cost was $125.00 plus $7.50 for shipping, you can have it for $115.00 shipped.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 80" ARF
I looked at the KMP Bronco at Toledo and was not impressed. The rep at the booth said they don't have any retracts yet. They hope to in six months or a year. A custom set will cost over $1000. He suggested I fly with the wire gear and wait for their retracts to come out. The plane is also the long nosed version that I don't think looks as good as the short nose. Lastly the covering looks like cloth iron on thats been painted over. I was looking forward to purchasing one and returned home despondent without a plane. Of course I had to buy something so I bought a new radio. Money really does burn holes in your pockets.
Then I learned Hobby Hanger was having a sale so I bought the 81" Bronco with the retracts yesterday. I saw the prototype at Top Gun last year and it didn't look too bad. I have a very large van (Dodge Sprinter) so putting it whole inside should not be a problem. Thanks to this post I will check out the nose gear mount very carefully. Has anyone finished and flown this plane? I am very interested in any information I can get. Hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult to fly with the high wing and large control surfaces as long as both engines are running. Any added input will be greatly appreciated.
