OV-10 Bronco 80" ARF
Spoke with Hobby Hangar the other day and found out they expect their new 80" Bronco ARF in early April.
Plane comes with a wire harness to replace all those Y-harnesses you would normally need with a plane of this type.
Price will be a little over $400.00.

Just like the kit, 60 2s to 90 4s and your favorite gear should bolt right in but they recomend Spring Air.
www.sierraprecision.com has sport and scale gear for this bird.
Do a search for the 81" kit to find what O.P.(other people) are using for components.

Found more info about this new ARF...
The plane requires 12 servos and has four flap segments.
Gene at Hobby Hangar has been flying the kit version of this bird with Spring Air gear and OS 46 fx engines and say's the plane will do a loop from straight and level flight but slows a bit at the top.
The planes are in stock but they are still working on the instructions and waiting on delivery of the wire harnesses.

The May 2004 issue of FLY RC Magazine has a review of the smaller 52" version. Looks like a great airplane ... I would expect the larger 81" to be of equal quality. A pair of .46 engines should work nicely! I really like the Sierra Precision landing gear as well.

Oh, swell. I order the laser cut parts and get the lumber in stock. I try to order the Sierra Precision gear but I was told that Sierra needed more time to perfect the design. Okay, that's a good thing. That was some months ago. I won't start any project until I get all of my parts ready to assemble but, hey, that's just me. Sierra says on their website that the gear will be ready in early March. Well, it's early March but now they won't answer my e-mails. It makes the old days of buying kits a good decision.
I'm sure the Spring Airs will be just fine but I would like to have the added quality that the Sierra gear would provide. Next up is the cockpit kit by Dynamic Balsa. It has been "almost ready" for as long as Sierra has been perfecting their gear. One day this will be a killer plane to show off at the field! I just hope I live long enough to see it happen.
Enough of the negativity. The ARF version sounds like a GREAT idea!! I just wish I had waited.

Engines and gear
Hobby Hangar is flying 3 of these , one with OS 46 FX's, one with OS 61's and another with Tower 75's.
Spring Air makes retracts for this plane but you can get them from
Hobby Hangar if you like, #101 HD-V
www.dbalsa.com will be shipping their new scale cockpit for this plane next week, I have one on order, the scale is 1/6th so Blue Box and GI Joe pilots should fit.

I had the plans and the laser-cut kit and the rest of the balsa needed to finish the model. I even started one of the wing panels. I'm not a builder -- ended up selling my interest to someone else for about $.25 on the dollar. I also have the 52" kit and haven't even opened the box in over a year -- anyone want it for a good price?
Now, the 81" ARF is definitely on my list for next year's income tax refund, along with Spring Air retracts and (2) Saito FA-100s (this is got to be the 4-stroke of choice for this model, given that they are 4 ounces less than the OS FX .61 with muffler). If it had only come out earlier, I would be doing this instead of the GP Christen Eagle II.

You know,( and the scale guys will kill me for this, but most of them fly single engine planes) the days of building are almost gone. Starting to see more arc's for the finish guys, but make mine arf.

I was thinking that same thought the other day Twinman. I would bet that in maybe 3-5 years That will be mostly what you see at the field. Our world is closing in and the majority will have no time to build, just buy and fly. I really wish i had the time to build but the way it is now, it would take a few years to get a project done, since the cool looking, real looking, scale looking arf's are beginning to show up, the most some will do is re-cover to make them different than the other guy's. Lets face it, Arf's are becoming the mainstay.

This is great news! The OV-10 is my favorite warbird, and with an ARF version of the 81", it's actually within my limited building grasp. I am curious as to why so many are powering their OV-10's, large and small, with 4 strokes since these weren't piston powered.

Yes, your right, they were Turbo Props. But, model turbo props are not a run-of-the-mill acquisition. Whether they be a 2-stroke glow or a 4-stroke glow, neither is closer than the other to the full-scale. I like the 4-stroke for their torgue and sound and, in the case of the Saito FA-100, their reliability, smoothness, and power vs weight. I've had 2 of these, one on a 60-size Ultra Stick, one on a U-Can-Do 3D.

4-stroke engines just sound real cool AND they have small muflers.
If you don't mind a 2-stroke head sticking out of the side of your cowl you can use a pitts style muffler.
I'm thinking of T.T.61 2-strokes for my Bronco because I just don't want to spend 500 bucks on a pair of Saito 72 4-strokes.
A friend of mine has a pair of good used OS 61 long strokes he may be willing to part with.
My OV-10 was put in the mail a week ago, I can't tell you how many times I looked out the window today.
UPS came today with the cockpit from Dynamic Balsa, lots of ABS parts and big too. Instrument faces kinda suck and the bezels come as a sheet of plastic that you must cut yourself.
For $125.00 plus shiping the bezels AND insturments should have been punched out but I'll make due.

NO, none have been shipped in spite of the fact I was told mine was "IN THE MAIL" when I called back the next week to order the retracts. It seems the "boss" dosn't want to ship any untill he receives the instruction booklets and wire harnesses from his vender that haven't shown up yet. I waited almost two weeks for mine when I called to find where the heck it was. Nobody bothered to call me.
www.kmp.ca, Kondor Model Products will have a 95" ARF Bronco out in a couple of months followed by a 85" B-25 with flaps and improved air retracts. I'm on the list for the bomber.

I dunno..I had 2 saito 91's on mine... I think it would be pretty dicey with only a brace of 46's ......
I don't endorse overpowering models -especially scale models- but there has to be a decent match between the weight that is being hauled around, the wing area, and the power available...

I knew they were come out with the arf as soon as get my 81" just about done! If anybody's interested, mine is listed in the classifieds-physical problems are forcing me to sell my big planes...JIM
