RE: Don Smith B-24 build pics
Well guys I am back. I had a long summer working on the house. I stripped the aluminum siding, the original wood lap siding. I then installed 24 new construction windows with headers over the windows on the inside. Then installed 22 squares of siding. Yes one more thing 18 squares of shingles along with a new back porch. That's enough about the house. I am back working on the lib. I finished planking the nacelles. I ordered a saito .91 to drill the mounts install the throttle servos and mount the cowls. I have finished all the air lines for the retracts turret and tail skid. I am now working on the astro dome cockpit and turrets. I am planning on glass work in the next few weeks. I will post more pics later.

I am going for an easy one this time. Castle AFB. in California has a Liberator that I will be replicating. I have documentation from Bob Banka and It thas no nose art (nice and simple). You can see pics if you search on google for Castle AFB.

RE: Don Smith B-24 build pics
Once again I have made it back to the building board. I have finished the nacelle planking and mounted all four engines. I cut all cowl flaps away from the cowl and remounted them in an open position. Ihave covered one aliron in sig coverall. I did finish the cockpit interior. I have the other aliron to cover and some sanding todo and fit the fuse top on the wing. I hope to be glassing by the end of december.

RE: Don Smith B-24 build pics
I intend to order my Don Smith plans tomorrow mostly because of my love for B-24s but partially because of this forun. I hope I can count on all guys for help. You cam start by recommending a kit cutter. I have looked at AAKC and Precison Cut and wonder if either of these is preferred over the other.
What about RCV 90s for the power plant? I have had very good luck in the past.

I have made it back to the liberator. I brushed down some .65 oz glass cloth tonight. I am using envirotex epoxy for this and it works well. It is hard to sand after it dries but I like working with it. I will try to glass the top of the wing tuesday night. All I need to do on the fuse is build the turrets and it will be ready. I will post more pics later.

RE: Don Smith B-24 build pics
dont know if your interested or not.... My grandfather was a 24 pilot stationed in italy (lady patricia was his bird of the 256th bomber group)
I have the air force issue b-24 liberator J owners manual. If you were interested in doing anything to scale such as decals. rivit lines, bay door access size or really anything involving the 24. it even gives the capaicty of the machine guns and the amount of travel each turret had. its pretty much everything the airforce knew about there plane. cruise speeds, fuel comsumtion, prop size i think u get the picture. the manual is about 200 pages and if you want i can send you dig photos of any topic your interested in
Ive built a gullows static 48" wing kit and modified it to fly with 2 norvel .061 and 2 fake engines. its a little hot dog. id be interested in knowing where you came across yours (is it a kit or plan/scratch built) and how much you have invested in your 24. ive been toying around with building a giant =)
you can reach me at ir8prim8@yahoo

RE: Don Smith B-24 build pics
I am scratch building my lib from Don Smith plans. I look to have 3500.00 to 4000.00 in it when finished. Thanks for the offer on the B-24 info but I have been collecting info for several years and have what I need.

Well I'm still at it. I have had alot of small detail work to finish before I can glass the fuse. I have been working on my emerson nose turret. I finished it and am now working on the consolidated tail turret. One I finish the tail turret I will be able to gless the fuse. I am planning on doing this in the next few days. Here is some pics of the nose turret.
