Default Nosen 310

Robby as come through with copies of the wing plans and new three views. Kinko's does good work. Now thanks to Robby taking his time to create the lost plans and the generosity of a dear friend who gave me the half built model, I will have a 310 flying hopefuly next summer. It will have retracts, and lights along with rivets and panel lines. Now all I need is a great color scheme. Any suggestions?
Thanks again Mopar, AKA Robby.

Hi gary9648

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but try this website for some color schemes

http://www.airliners.net/search/

Use the drop down menu, the Cessna 310/320 is there. They have a lot of pictures of this fine plane.

Have not decided as of yet. I'm thinking of two .90's two strokes. Maybe small gas. Please no four strokes. Me and them do not have much luck.
Also: thanks for the web site for pictures.

A friend of mine used 2 OS 108 with 16x6's on them and by no means did it have too much power it was a little heavy If I remember right It weighed 38 LBS crashed after one engine went out

NOt a problem, Gary...
Always happy to help a fellow twin guy.. [8D]

The plans cal for .60 / .90 ... When the plans were designed that mayhave been
the way to go.. Today, even tho parts are lights as retracts, hardware, etc. the
plane still comes out a little heavy for such a small motor.. Where I have known
of some with .90's there were basic planes, monokote, type of planes..
Using something as a YS120 makes a killer plane and the sound is soooooo
fantastic.. BUT.. Remember, fuel cost...
With todays gas engines as light as they are and given the cost of a good large
glow and a small gas engine, my *opinion* gas is the way to go..
If affordable something as a DA50 at 3.5# is a great choice.. For about half the
cost even a US41 would work out very well... Plus, low maintance, little clean-up
and low fuel cost..
Of course, if going with gas a little extra building is required ... Given the plane is 120"
at even 40# it would still be a very easy flying plane and an easy weight to be under..

So Gary,, post pics of where it IS at, and continue with your progress as some of us
really want to see.
And best part, there has never been on RCU, a build thread on the Nosen/A&A 310 ...

Hi Gary..... I highly recommend two G-26 gas engines. I have a couple friends using these and the plane is wonderful with them. They also have a 310 set up with OS 91's but the performance is not as good. As Robby said..."gas is cheaper" !! I will be using either G23's or G26's on mine (when I get to it!).

Good luck, and post pics.......bipeguy

Robby:
If I remember I think the weight is around 40 lb, that is because those G38 weigh so much. Retracts and spinners made my self. Servos used for flaps,JR retract servos, and each ailerone has it's own servo, but this plane does not need flaps,it lands just fine with out flaps. Wing was foam core covered with 1/16 balsa, same wit tail feathers these are foam core, lot faster and more durable. Covering used,1/2 oz glass and epoxy resin. Paint used, two part epoxy paint. I have to dig out more pics and load them on my PC Jerry

does anyone out there have a set of used retracts for the 310. I just took a medical retirement and sure can"t afford new. A friend had the nosen kit forever and I have it now for my winter project. I have 2 G23's for it that was given to me when I got out of the hospital. They say it should fly nice but deffenitly needs retracts.

I have been following the post on the Bud Nosen 310 for some time now. I was luck enough to find this kit ( Bud Nosen kit not A&A Indus ) on ebay. Looks as though the kit is 99% + there with very few ply parts warped. I have a laser cutter so I will be importing all parts that need to be replaced and cut them. My problem is there is no builders manual in the box. Anyone know if that kit came with plans or just expectd to build off the plans?

Prior to moving forward with this project I have to copy the plans as they are in as bad shape as the bos it came in, im afraid to handle them too much as they are falling frail. Seems this kit is 80% sheet goods which brings me to another questions. Is there a shelf life for balsa? I know that may sound like a crazy questions but with the $ that will be put into this project I dont want any mistakes. I have been building for 25 years 3 of them being scratch from plans so I really will not be halted if I cant find a builders manual if one came with the org kit, it would just be nice to have one.

Ive noticed alot of you are going gas. I have some gas and like that idea but im wanting to go as scale as I can. I found my OS 120 II w/punps fit in the cowels so I think I will try that first.

Gear and brakes... I see Robart has a set of retracts that will work with this plane. Any coments before I buy them.

Thank you in advance for any help.

The wood should be fine.. As long as it doesn't get wet..
The Robarts are a good dependable way to go.. For less you
can get Spring air retracts..
The manual gives very little info.. If you would lIke I can take
and copy the one I have and send it to you.. All A&A did was
to continue coping the original nosen manual..
Keep it light and the 120's you have will be just fine.. The plane
tends to build a tad tail heavy so be cautious about any extra building
in tail area..

Thank you for the fast reply. That would be wonderful if you dont mind scanning it. You can send it to my [email protected] address as I check it a few times a day. I am looking forward to building the 310. After watching all the threads on it I think I will have been able to ward off alot of problems ( THANKS ALL ). We are still building the vacume form system as soon as it's done I will start building again. I am working on a kit bash to the Goldberg Tiger 60 to make it a twin and a OV-10 bronco. After these are finished I plan to start the 310. Maybe in Feb early Mar.

On the topic of the gear, I am wanting full struts not wire. I noticed you said something about spring air, I thought those were wire? Anyway. Thank you again, and thank you for the input.

On the larger Spring Air, you can put in struts..
Hence, upping the cost so making the Robarts
the better way to go ....

Uhhmm.. Tiger 60... Twin...
You mean like this:

Were you able to copy the 310 manual yet? Thanks for your time.

vrpro,,
Sorry aboutt he delay in repling to above.. Busy week and was away
at an indoor event this week end..

The nose is built up and finished into the sides on the Tiger..
I will have it back in a couple weeks to do a motor swap and
can do a pic of the nacelles empty if you want.. Just remind me..

I have the 'manual' you asked for but my email program blocks all hotmail..

However, if you want PM me your mailing address and I can send you
the manual / parts list.. It is only two pages, front and rear.. I copied
the Bud Nosen one for you as that is the one you asked for..
It really doesn't give a lot of info at all..

Robby,
Thanks for the Tiger pics. You really did a great job! until you get closer pics, can you advise me how you did the nose. Built up frame, solid block? and for the engine mounts. Just tied in to the area of the wing where the blocks for the landing gear goes?

I'm so pumped on this idea lol. Im thinking of using 2 small 4cycle's on it. The one im going to convert is a Tiger 60 deluxe w/robart retracts. Wonder what it would look like with tip tanks . I know it's going a bit far but if i'm going to mod I might as well go all the way LOL..

Thanks again for your time.

Default RE: Nosen 310

Well we bought another BN Cessna 310 today. This one is from A&A and looks to be in a bit better shape. It includes Fiberglass wing tanks and cowls. I will know more when it comes in.

After looking into this a bit further, we have decided to re-design the original 310 attempting to use all the threads to improve the design. We plan to offer it in 8', 10' and 12' span. We have 2 laser cutters one for the balsa and 1/8th ply then another for the larger stock as well as a commercial vacuum from machine that will do up to 2' x 4' stock up to 1/4' thick.

We would have started this 3rd qtr last year but got side tracked seeing all the laser systems would do, chuckle. I will send you some pictures of our little shop in the next few days.

For the Tiger.... This is a Tiger 60 deluxe with robart retracts. It had close to 100 flights on it without any problems, until 3 weeks ago as we were remodeling the work area it was set atop a cabinet on its side and gravity decided to become its friend . Must have hit just right as it broke the nose clean off behind the firewall and slight damage to the wing. SO I felt it was a good time to see about making a twin out of it.

As it is, I have taken the covering off, all gear and stripped it down to the frame. Taken the tail feathers off and ready to decide what to do with the nose. You had asked how far I had gone, See pictures.

I may stop work on the 80" Tiger and make it as a twin as well. We will see.

Thank you again for your time

Keith

Couldn't help but note the thread as it relates to the Goldberg Tiger..

I have built three of the 40 size twins, using bushing .40's, with fantastic results.
