No KMP makes their own retracts...(subcontracts it out) but is supposed to function the same...last year they had issues with the air cylinder nipples and construction and sturdiness..now NEW GENERATION in all P-38's and future B-25/OV-10's will have new units that are supposed to be STRONG and not LEAk air...

OK, so why do they show the real one, and a 3 view of one, and then have that hideous nose on their prototype?[:'(] Hope they chop that thing off and put a scale nose on it.

I agree! I was thinking about one of those, but not with that nose on it!

I stand by my opinion. I won't be modeling that version.

You could always chop the nose off and build up a rounded nose...
I think it is great to have the opportunity to model a Late Model OV-10..DESERT STORM colors look promising

I am sure that although it is "fugly" to some it is "f--n gorgeous" to others...like opinions and taste everyone has some...some more than others ; ) hehehe
I think it looks good....I also think a Skyraider looks good as well as a B-26 Marauder and a B-25...
I bet it would be rather easy to offer it with 2 noses as an option... It is just a fiberglass nose piece...

You're right of course. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But to me that long nose makes it look silly and cartoonish. And I don't like my warbirds to look silly.

I bet it would be cool to have it in the grey, balck and green camo used by the Marines..It would look mean,,,add a rear hatch and drop a bunch of special forces out the back or a supply box on chute.,...The real OV-10 was able to do such tasks...

I am NOT an expert on the OV-10, or any other plane. I do have a tidbit of info... The OV-10 Night Observation Gunship (NOGS) was a USMC OV-10A modified to include a turreted FLIR sensor and turreted M-197 20-mm gun (rear, center fuselage) slaved to the FLIR aimpoint. Successful in combat in Vietnam, NOGS evolved into the NOS OV-10D, which included a laser designator.

I agree that the OV-10D has a somewhat silly appearance in the pictures, as does the prototype KMP model. However, it was a rather nasty little warbird. More information pictures available at http://www.scaleaero.com/ov10d_nosnogs.htm

Having seen the clamshell rear doors on the Bronco, I still don't quite get how they dropped the Recon Marines. Do they fly with the rear fairing off? As I understand it, a combat drop was done by flying in the weeds to the drop point, then pulling vertical and letting the guys slide static line out the back at about 500 feet. As a skydiver, I bet it would make a great jump plane and would love to give one a try.

Anyway - to the toys...

I think this is in the 6"-7" range, from smalljoes.com.

GI Joe also makes - or made - some really nice HALO and Airborne 12" figures. The Airborne GIjoe had a round chute and the HALO guy had a ram-air chute. Both cases, the chutes are supposed to actually work. I couldn't find a good pic to link though. I have the Airborne GIjoe, given as a gag gift. I think the HALO GIjoe would be a fine RC conversion, with the ready made ram-air canopy & all. However, it seems to be out of production. AVailable on-line for $50, or on e-bay if you want to bid.

I'm not a GIjoe geek, I just looked into them for this specific purpose before.

I have a book from Squadron Signals on the OV-10...It mentions that for drops..The rear fairing/door was removed during these operations...
