That's a rarity on OS FX engines.
I've got 50-60 flights on the F-82 with one outage on the 2nd or 3rd flight (my fault).
The A-26 with no outage (well one, but they both went out just before the runway because my idle was too low: again my fault).
The P-38, B-25 and P-61: none.
Strict adherence to start up procedures (and mechanical checks) should eliminate virtually all of your problems.
Change plugs before they go out (put the old ones in planes that are easy to 'dead stick'.
One thing to remember: any problems: don't fly.

took her to the AMA open house but the aileron servo was stripped.
Greg (top gun B-25) said that happens sometimes in transit when they get bumped.
Fortunately, I checked everything before taking off.

What a beautiful facility.
I'm glad I'm only 120 miles away.

Sam, great to meet you guys and see your new twin's. real airplanes have one wing and two round engines!! super flight on your P-61. it sets and handles well in the not so favourable conditions we had today. The runways there are not alligned for easy use nor for the prevailing wind normally associated with the area. The runways are very hard to line up on, the cross is so shallow between the two, that they become confusing. It's really easy to start out on one and end up on the other. I was hoping to get to see your 25 take to the air but glad to see the problem surface when it did (OTG). Flying big multi's on rudders only, can be done, it's just not that much fun!
keep up the good work and the good flying!!

Yo Greg Hahn,
I checked out your ww.hcwrightflyers.org web site and the field looks great.
I'll definitely be at your warbird fly-in on Sat, Sept 3.
If they're still in one piece, I plan on bringing the P-51, P-38, P-61 and B-25.
Have lots of food available!

Dang, sam!! You are runnin' with the BIG DOGS now!!

Lot of us twin amateurs would love to hobnob with the likes of Greg Hahn. There's no classier act in the business.

Seriously, though, listen to everything he says. Unlike most modelers (myself included), who include a hefty portion of BS with every opinion, Greg's views seem solidly anchored in logic and experience.

I met several of the pilots at Greg's club: they are very friendly and knowledgeable
and all of them definitely know how to build and fly planes.
I think Greg says they have something like 56 warbirds in their club.
I'm lucky to be only 120 miles away.

I thought I would add a few mods to Mr. Parfitt's great build thread.
1) Hatch releases for the bomb bay/ belly pan
2) Landing lights
3) Functional bomb bay doors

I borrowed the hatch release idea from Flyinglindy's B-25 construction site.

[link]http://flyinglindy.homestead.com/b25construction.html[/link]

The photos are under the finishing/ detailing section. Pretty simple really by using brass tubing, music wire, spring from a pen, and a couple small washers soldered on the ends. I mounted one in the rear of the belly pan and one in the fuse at the bulkhead ahead of the belly pan. This way the releases are both pointing aft in the locked position.

The landing lights were fairly easy as well. Following the Model Airplane News article in the Feb. 05 issue, I made cutouts in the leading edges between ribs. I used mini maglight reflectors with Ram LED landing lights. Make a light ply frame for the reflectors to sit in, painted it black, and used thin plastic for the lens. The lens is glued on the leading edge and microballons/epoxy is used to feather the lens to the wing. I then painted everything that was exposed. The paint was color matched to a piece of the green covering. It's close but not perfect. Some weathering should help hide the differences. The switch is mounted to the retract valve with the wires spliced for wing removal. I figured I'd use the gear a bit more than if it were tied into the flaps.

The bomb bay took a little more effort to figure out. I saw a good setup while at Top Gun. First I drew a line down the center of the belly pan. I started about 3/4" back from the front of the belly pan and measured 11 1/2" aft. Then measured 2 1/2" on either side of center for each door. This is pretty close to scale. Before cutting out the doors, I wet some 3/32" balsa and taped it to the pan to shape it for the interior. I cut the doors out using a hot knife which worked very well on the fiberglass. Once that was out, I made a ply bulkhead at the rear of the cut out. The hardware used consisted of a nose gear steering block (cut in half to make two supports), 5/32" brass tubing, 3 nose gear steering arms, 2 small Robart control horns, and ball links. Everything is mounted in the front of the bay basically making a big dual bell crank. I used Nelson Hobby 10" piano hinges epoxied to the fiberglass.

Default RE: KMP B-25 CONSTRUCTION.

I mounted a mini servo on the bulkhead at the rear of the bay with a pushrod to the hardware in the front. I was hoping to keep the bay as clean as possible. The control horns are epoxied to the doors and everything is hooked up with ball links for adjustability and movement. The interior of the doors got lined with the balsa that was shaped from earlier. I drilled 'lightening' holes to add to the scale look. This took several tries since the balsa kept wanting to break. I did use thin CA along the perimeter of the balsa to give it some strength. But on my successful drilling run, I got carried away so the holes aren't in the correct scale configuration. I used these sheets anyway since I'm probably not going to notice it when it's flying. I then added balsa sheeting to the sides to box everything in and help support the hinges. When all is adjusted, I painted everything green.

The next step is to throw some bombs in the empty bomb bay. Dare Hobby not only has the dummy radial engines but bombs as well. I got the 4" (listed as 100lb) bombs to at least have a couple rows yet be big enough to find if I do make a rig to drop them. They are vacuum formed kits that have to be assembled. They will probably need a little fill to give them weight when dropped.

I nee some advice and don't have time currently to read the entire theard. I am sure it is discussed else where. I have one of these on the way and am considering my engine options. I use nothing but four strokes. I have a couple of RCV .60's, a couple of Saito .72's or some Magnum and OS .91's. I know it say's .70 4C but I don't want to be under powered. What are you guys using and how is it flying? All these engines are very strong preformers. The RCV's will turn a very high pitch prop and fit neatly in the cowl's. The others are obvious. Thanks

Hey Guys

Just an update on my once destroyed B25 (the one with the no-glue dihedril brace), this has since undergone a major rebuild, reglassing the fuse back together, rebuilding a wing and carving a solid nose and whilst looking a little worse for wear, I'm happy to report that it now flies again (and flies well at that !)
I had six more flights on it since the rebuild and it is sensational, rock solid in the air, cruises at half throttle (despite the additional weight of the repairs, it nows weighs 17.5lbs), goes like a rocket at full noise and with full flap it is very slow and stable! The OS 70's have performed faultlessly with no sign of flame out and rpms are within 300 revs from idle to flat out, spinning Bolly 12.5 x 6 three bladers. Landings are a non event, lower flaps (with a liitle down stick mixed in) make a 30 deg glide slope approach and flare for a three pointer keeping the power up to avoid bouncing. The only incident has been the failure of the bomb bay door mechanism which prematurely released a couple of bombs. The next experiment is to install a camera in the top turret on a 180 deg. servo so I can pan around taking footage from nose to tail.
The guys at the field can't believe something so big (and heavy) can perform so well, I'm still waiting on my replacement model from the wholesaler (which I will repaint silver with invasion stripes(USAAF ETO scheme) ) so I'm looking forward to building and flying this one which should look a treat.

I've almost completed my KMP P-38, powered by 2 x OS 91 f/s, it should go like a rocket !

I'll post some pics and maybe get some inflight onboard camera footage soon

cheers

Alan

Just a double check before I fly. Is the CG to be checked from the leading edge at the outside of the Nacelle's or at the center of the wing. It appears that it is 92.4mm from the leading edge on the outside of the Nacelle's according to the pic. Just want to make sure since the CG is not the same at the center of the wing versus the outside Nacelle area do to the leading edge on the wing is slightly swept back.

Thanks Randy

I cut the servo hatches in my B-25 wing yesterday and found that the hatches don't fit the cutouts very well. Did you have to trim your servo hatch doors to fit the cutouts?

Hell of a deal on the RCV 90 cds. They have a great combo now with the kit. I bought one of the first ones and they still offered me a great price on the engines. The pair cost me $410.00 shipped. ALso they told me they have an Me-109 in the works! Spitfire 72" due in September.
