RE: Lets See your P/F-82 Twin Mustang's
Beautiful job! Would you please tell me the source of your plans or, if it is a kit, who produces it? I wanted to modify two Top Flite P-51s, but realized that would be a bad idea. Thanks! Jerry

RE: Lets See your P/F-82 Twin Mustang's
Have just started building my new Twin Mustang and am looking forward to getting it into the air. I'm a bit perturbed as to how to get all the wiring in place. Does it matter which fuse the radio/battery is placed? (This is the World Model ARF) Any tips on the wiring configuration? I'm planning on the OS 40 LA x 2 engines. Are they better sideways or verticle? Or for that matter, upside down?? Any building tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! Mustang Bob

OK Nemesis
Thanks for the call and advise! I plan to go with the two reciever plan which will , as you noted, will eliminate the "ton" of wiring thriugh the middle wing, and simplify the whole affair!
The use of 11x5 props is intresting, as I thought 40LA could only handle 10x?. Will take it under advisement.
Thanks again, and will keep you posted

OK N4U
Got one engine in place, and will have the other on tomorrow(?). So far so good. I'm breaking bad and mounting the engines right-side-up so it won't look so cool but I want to use the stock muffler, and sideways won't work! Playing it "el cheepo"!
Will keep you posted----am going with two recievers per your suggestion. Thanks, I think that is the way to go.

Have mounted the engines, and not too bad!! I was worried about cooling with the engines enclosed, so with them right-side-up, I simply cut out the top of the cowl which will allow (1) Good air flow for cooling and (2) ease in refueling without any remote fuel gismo. The bird is taking shape, and I am pleased as to how everything seems to fit together---with minor exceptions. Will post some pics ASAP during construction. Any more hints will be appreciated!

mustang51D..
Just remember to fuel proof the fuel tank compartment and seal the edges of covering around the firewall..
I also always double check the fuel pickup clunk as sometimes there is a metal burr in it and it can block fuel flow to the engine...otherwise..Just assemble and balance per instuctions..get the engines broke in and set the stronger engine to the weaker and FLY!!!!!!!!!
I just bought the VQ-P61!! I am addicited baaad!!!!!!

Hey Calixto
The Twin Mustang is a World Models ARF, and can be purchased at most hobby shops or on line and cost around $325ish? I think is about what I paid---not counting "extras"!
This is my second entry into the twin world, and if you've never flown one, I would suggest the Hobbico "Twinstar" for starters. It's a hoot to fly!

RE: Lets See your P/F-82 Twin Mustang's
Flew the sucker today and it flew like a brick!!!!!!!! Maybe a little tail heavy, but I cheked the CG, and it leveled out perfectly. It seemed to rock to the right side, so maybe I had the rudder dialed in too strong for the turns??? Donno, but will go for more nose weight , maybe more engine (46AX), and perhaps the torque factor plays a role. Really dissapointed after your glowing reports!! Probably my pilot skills are lacking??!!

RE: Lets See your P/F-82 Twin Mustang's
Remember it is a Twin Mustang.... It has a higher wingloading than a singe engine... Believe it or not...It is probably the BEst twin engine Warbird YOU WILL EVER FLY.... Others fly LIKE A BRICK>>>> I say you just tune the engines and go with the APC props 10x whatever or the 11x5... It does really well and flies rock solid for me... and lots of others..... [8D]

RE: Lets See your P/F-82 Twin Mustang's
I agree that the Twin Mustang should be the best flying twin besides a pusher-puller like the Dornier Do.335. I have sport twins with nacelles and one with twin fuselages and the twin fuselage is an excellent flier.
What is the weight and wing area of your P-82? If the wing loading (pounds divided by sq. in. x 2304), is over 30 it begins to feel heavy.

mustang51D.... It is easy to post pictures... go to the grey oval "Post Reply" at the bottom of this post and click on it...
THen type in some text and once you have described your picture (s) click on "click here to upload"...and attach as many pics as you like... Hope this helps and Happy FLYING!!
Remember it is not a CAP 232 it is a TWIN WARBIRD>>> it is impressive to hear and watch... I can do great scale take off runs and then gently pull up while I retract the gear.. once I have a safe altitude I make a coordinated "flat" turn and head for ANGELS... man it can climb.. Once at altitude I will set up for my "objective" and perform a great P-82 high speed pass .... pulling up and doing a nice BIG split S to come by for another pass... WOW ...makes me get goose bumps....
Have a great flight..

His WM P-82 features Two Os .40 LA's and two receivers to keep the wiring mess to a minimum... Bob applied the decals and trim to his taste and mounted the motors upright for ease of tuning and starting....

RE: Lets See your P/F-82 Twin Mustang's
Thanks N4U for the picture posting---flew her today with much better results, as I adjusted the CG to make it a little nose heavier. However, the landing was a bit hot (couldn't slow it down and not start to stall) and did a bit of damage. So I'll have to go back to the drawing board, make repairs, and figure out what to do next. I'm putting this bird on the back burner for now, and work on some of my other projects.
Good luck with the Black Widow---one of my favorites---let me know how it goes.

Pica 1/12 scale with twin Axi 2212/20 brushless motors, Castle Phoenix 25 controllers, and Light flight 3 cell 2100 mah li-po's. Flies great on 8x6 props. Jammed rudder linkage caused total loss crash. Waiting for Pica/Cox to reopen, so I can buy another kit. I may build the big World F-82.

RE: Lets See your P/F-82 Twin Mustang's
Sorry about your loss of the bird----Not sure if I can resurrect mine!!---Will look at it later and decide. I was disappointed with my WM F-82, as it was difficult to control, and IMPOSSIBLE to land!!! Have the pieces to prove it! It did fly pretty good---a little twitchy, but looked good airborne.
