RE: stafford twin commanche
Steve, Guys,
Can we talk more about the CJ retracts. Photos possibly?
My interest is scale appearence in length.
I don't like air operated retracts, LADO may be the answer? Anyone using CJ with eletrics?
Anyone do the extra side window thing and would it be the same interior as supplied with the kit?
I have two Enya's NIB.

Hi Steve, YOU have to fly it like the real one, in that you cannot float in for a landing you need a little speed, the first landings were with no flaps and it was fine, with flaps it is much easier. I am suprised yours is so light most other models are around 14 to 15 fly weight, I will have pictures in a week or two. Dan

Here are pictures of mine uses goldberg with sonic actuators time to refurbish it by replacing all bellcranks with servos, due to a move there is a hairline crack in the sheeting and I want to make sure there is no hidden damage under the sheeting

Hi Charles , the retracts are robarts mechanical, I could not find any air that were short enough. The only thing I don't like is they are plastic. If they break I will replace them with metal mechanical from cermark.

Dancam,
You did an absolute great job with that model!
Robart gear, Ok on that.
You must describe your building techniques in detail, I'm astonished as to the clean installation of the window glass. You did an excellent job!
Any tips or pointers?
Other photos?

Charles, I am working on putting together a photo build sequence and flying shots. I spent 2 years building this plane and it was the first time using fiberglass. the windows are shimed from the inside to get them even with the finished fuse surface. They are covered with strips of white vinyl tape over the seams. Dan

Dan,
Congratulations on the two years. Also in finishing a model. I actually have difficulty doing that.
Are the windows placed from the outside? Individual or together?
Did you know that CJ Retractsoffers a set of gear exclusivly for the Twin Commanche?
Im trying to find out about that?
I like the Commanche with the extra window.
Thanks for the info, and I hope you don't mind the questions.

Thing is, they made the mains wrong. They are not horse shoe type like the nose gear.
Did you notice this? CJ certainly didn't, or did they?

you can remove one side (I will) and they will still be strong enough, don't know why century jet ship them like this in the first place. My first flight was in my fathers single com in 1969, he went on to have 4 twin coms (including the c/r )so you could say I was raised in the twin com....a true classic flying machine.

Chris,
About your Twin flying experience, you must have some great stories? I wouldn't mind one.
Yes, you could remove one side then remove the "flat" that shouldn't be there in the first place.
Won't this off-center the wheel a bit?
They shouldn't have made them wrong in the first place. In designing gear, for acertain model, they like to use as many "shelf" items as possible. Can't blame them, we're lucky just to have gear.
Can the horse shoe be removed from the strut?
The nose gear "horse shoe" needs reshaping and thinning also.
Are you in agreement with all this?
Did they at least get the length correct. From pivit point to axel? Or what's shownig under the model?
Be foolish if there was too much gear hanging down and the modelsits to high.
Did you get your glass?
Why is there so little interest in this model, or is it the "building?" IMO. The 310 is not as nice a looking airplane sa the Commanche Twin, Sky King or no Sky King. Could it be the ARF thing?

Hi Dancan,
You did an excellent build! I`ve lost my original plans for the Comanche.I know the CG point is approx 4 1/4" from leading edge, but is this taken from the point where the wing meets the fusalge or at some other pont, can`t remember! Any info much appreciated as I`ve finished my converstion except balancing.

Steve,
Please take a look at this photo. You can clearly see the root cord and it's relationship to the fuselage. And the 4.25"
Hope this helps.
I have a kit coming that I snagged. Not cheap, but it's mine! I'll let you know what I think when I get it. I will add that extra window.

Steve,
Glad you now have that info, but don't thank me, that photo was provided by Chris. See above in this thread, he has a few other photos.
Be interesting to know exactly how popular this model kit is and how many guys built it?
There's just some thinga we'll never know.
I still like that extra side window.
