B-24 Liberator??
How many B-24's are flying??? I've seen two on RCWARBIRD.com
that looks good. Is there something I should know about before I build one...... Thinking about the 110" palmer plan!?!?

B-24 Liberator??
Hi Benjijr,
I'm flying a Stafford B-24 D. A great flying warbird, actually I've heard that about most B-24's.
90" wingspan, 14lbs, four O.S.26 four strokes, JR 8103, Nelson paint, retracts, flaps, bombays, top turret turns with aileron input.
I also want to build a big one but our field isn't big enough to handle it.
I've heard that Stafford is no longer in business.......hope it's not true, they have some classic kits.

B-24 Liberator??
Benjijr, it's about the nicest flying scale warbird I've ever built.
I don't have any pictures of it yet on the web and I tried to post a picture on this site once but it wouldn't work. However, a friend of mine here is the Handibond glue rep and he took a picture of it for their ad in the Dec issue of RCM. Just look for the Olive Drab B-24 with a real ugly guy kneeling behind it!
Unstable, wish I could build one that big! Our grass runway is about 100 yards, though, and my Stafford B-24 uses most of that for the takeoff. Also, some power lines make a long flat approach not possible. We have access to a full scale runway here but not all the time.

Precision cut already has the 146" in stock, but who has built one? Not many out there flying that I know of, compared to, say, the B-17............ With Uncle's here and the one's I've seen on rcwarbirds, that makes three.

TLH101 I too would be a little interested in your kit too but I would like to see maybe a photo or too of the kit and maybe you could give me and Idea of the amount of $ you would possibly want for her. At present I'm finishing up my B-25 and starting on a couple of B-17 oops sorry. The 25 only needs the sequencer for the retracts then its time to test engines and gear and flaps then maybe head for the sky. Some time here in early spring I hope.

B-24 Liberator??
went over to my friends place The Aeroplane Works and saw the plans for this thing
HOLY $@#% the Stab is bigger than some planes I have owned
I really wish I could afford one of these things, and had a place to fly it.
they should be starting the first run tomorrow or friday.

I'd be there in a heartbeat if it didn't cost about $1k for me to get there....that's one of the few negatives about living in Hawaii....you can't just get in your car and drive anywhere you want!

I think it was the reports of how well it flies and finally being able to afford four engines and a good radio that did it for me.

B-24 Liberator??
Benjijr,
If memory serves, I think they were working on restoring a B-24 in either Schenectady, or Albany NY. But that was several years ago and I don't know whatever became of the project.
Anyway, I am producing kits for Don Smiths B-24 now and it is similar to his B-17 in design philosophy so I expect it will fly great. Give me a call if you are interested in the details.

Edwin, our field is on the other side of the island from Pearl Harbor but it's only about a 20 minute drive from there. About the same from Waikiki. You could drive around the island in 2-3 hours.
Here's our website....look for the directions to our field.
Make sure to ask for me!
Steve
our website is: home.hawaii.rr.com/asrcc

B-24's
Hi Benjijr & Aloha Steve,
Well, It's time I added my 2 cents. I say, if you want to build a B-24, GO FOR IT. I have a Stafford just like Uncle and it is a real joy. When you bring it out to the field, everyone will want to talk to you about it and will want to see it fly. Mine has only 2 flights on it and both times, everyone stopped flying just to see it fly. That alone, made it worth all the time and money that I put into it.
Mine has an 8103DT, Saito 30's for power, retracts, flaps, bomb bay doors, bomb drop, 16 servos & an on board glow driver. Weight is 17lb. I modeled mine after the "Strawberry *****" that's on display at the USAF meseum in Dayton Ohio.
The only thing is, I should have built a bigger one!!!!! So, if you build one, build the biggest one you can afford. I've got the plans for the Palmer 165" B-24 but that's for when I move to Maui.
If you want to see a few pictures of mine, a friend posted them at www.flightlines.com Check out the Scale forum and look for the B-24 post.

B-24 Liberator??
Hi John,
Didn't know RCM had plans for one but I've never heard of a B-24 model that didn't fly well so I think you'll be happy with it.
Is it made for electric or are you converting it?
If my field was bigger, I'd build a very, very big B-24 but as it is now, my Stafford B-24 uses up about 250 of our 300 ft. runway on takeoff even when the grass is cut short.
Good luck with your project....Keep us posted!
