Just back from a day out with my DA...I like this airframe more evrytime I fly it. Added Tru-Turn alum. spinners. Didn't fly any better, but sure looks better. Wazzuz with those red spinners?!

I am running the CG @ 100mm. Anybody gone futher back thank that?

I am seriously considering taking another new DA and bashing it w/new paint, retracts, and Twin-Sync's. Any suggestions.

Bo

The covering is Ultracote White HANU870, Turquoise HANU898, and Deep Blue HANU 873.
Hope this helps.

have flown my ace 3-4 times. want to post pictures but haven't figured how to do that. can't find instructions
tried the click here to upload images, but that didn't work.

changes made: pull-pull rudder
shortened the dosal fin so it didn't look so toy like
aadded trim to the nacelles (they really needed something!)

guess it did work.
have to program a throttle - elevator mix. The thing "skies" under high power settings. Can take off & fly with about 1/3 throttle.
so far so good. Had one engine quit on 2nd flight but was high enough so it was no problem--just landed and re-set the needle valve richer.

I get no change under different throttle settings. Check your wing incidence. The holes in the fuse where the nylon bolts go though are too big. Set the incidence correctly then mark the fuse so you can get them correct each time you put the wing halve on....Bo

Thanks Bo,
It did a loop shortly after take off & my spotter was wondering what the "H" I was doin.
Will check & reset and then shim the holes so that it'll be the same each time.

Chris, thanks for posting the pictorial of your retract installation. I am currently running the stock gear but may upgrade later, your posts will be very helpful. Can you post your all-up weight now? Mine is 11.5 pounds with Magnum .52 4-strokes and fixed gear. Back aways someone asked if .52 4-strokes would be enough power, I can say that they are plenty of power with this airplane. I have run 2 blade 11-6 and 3 blade Graupner 10-7 props and they both fly fine. Our field is at 5000' and is 650' long, I use about 125' for take-off. The plane flies beautifully and is fairly fast. I am going to put locating pins in the wing roots to get the wings at the same incidence each time.

Best regards from old bird.

OB,
My DA weighs in at 10 lb 6 oz. I almost entirely eliminated the dorsal fin, palced the battery on a tray in the nose cone and oriented the servos with the output arms forward. I am not sure it helped much to get the weight down but some thing did. It is balanced at 110. I am running TT GP 42's but am seriopusly considering changing to Magnum 52's 4 stroke. Which prop do you think works to best the 3 blade or the 2 blade. My altitude here is 1200' and one runway is 400' long and the other is 3000' long. The 3000' runway is an active airport with very light traffic.
Chris

In my kit ther were 4 plywood washers which were a good fit on the wing bolts. The idea is to put these under each wing bolt head, set the wing incidences the same, fully tighten the bolts then run cyano around washer to fuselage joint . Hey presto , you get the same incidences every time. Hope this helps.

Hi Chris:

Here are some pictures of where I am at with respect to the new nacelles on Dual Ace #2. You can see #1 in the background in the one shot. That one has over 100 flights on it with LA-40s. Balance point is about 108 mm from leading edge.

The new one has OS .52 four strokes and a quick pre check of the balance looks like it will need little if any weight in the nose and I should be able to leave the servos where they were from the factory, rather than have to move them to the front of the cabin like I did with the other one.

I took some pix Ii am just enclosing them differently. I plan to use to roofing aluminum flashing for the hatch that will close the engine in (painted of course) and all that will end up sticking out will be the rocker cover and the muffler. Should look pretty good.

Ted, Its looking good. I never thought to make them out of balsa & aliuminum. Are you planning on leaving the bottom of the nacelle open for cooling? Keep me posted on progress as I would like to drive up there and see the end result.

That would be fine, Chris. Where exactly is Rison, AR? Bring your airplane along and we'll go out to the field for awhile. Ever been here before?

Ted,
I went to fly in there a couple of years ago. Don't know for sure if I could find the field again. We were doing a family reunion there and didn't know about the fly in until we went to the hobby shop there and saw the poster. We got there just as they were awarding the awards so we missed most of it.
I crashed My DA at the last Eldorado fly in and haven't got it back together yet. I am going to change engines to Magnum 52 4 stroke and that is why i'm interested in your nacelles.
Rison is 24 miles south of Pine Bluff on Hwy 79 and my flying club is in Monticello. If you have been flying very long I'm sure you know about Monticello.

Yes, Chris, I have been to Monticello. The guy that got me started flying took me down there to the Hobby Shop. I think the guy's name that ran it was Frank and he was in poor health. I know he has subsequently closed. Is he still alive and doing OK?

The field up here is hard to find but once you know the way, isn't too bad getting back there.

Ted,
The man's name is Frank Jackson and he is still alive but in poorer health. He devoted his entire life to aviation. He was a military pilot and then an R/C enthusiast. He had the largest LHS in Arkansas. He has heart problems and uses a Pacemaker he cannot go to the fly ins because the transmitters affect his pacemaker. Needless to say he is pretty much out of the hobby.
The flying field is about 7 or 8 miles west of Monticello on Hwy 35 next to Lake Monticello and it is named in honor of Frank (Jackson Field).

Hello all from Italy,
1st of all, pls forgive me for my poor english...

I'm assembling my DA, but I'm having a lot of trouble making the nacelle fit fine with the wings profile (both up and down)
Anybody else had the same issue? Any suggest about?
I'm doing as the manual say to do, choosing the right "down half" and the "up half" of the nacelle as the manual show as well...
Thanks in advance for any help!!

Welcome from the good 'ole USA!

The nacells are simply a problem. Get them fit as best you can..they'll never be perfect.
