Default Quality Fiberglass C-130 retracts

Has anyone put retracts on the Quality Fiberglass C-130? If so, what retracts did you use and do they work good?

I only put a retract nose wheel. When I bought the QF 130 I was told that Robart would make retracts. I spoke to the owner at a Chicago fly event and he told me, "no way will I make retracts for that plane, not enough volume". So if you find someone with retracts we all could use them. Jim

alalbamaRaptor:

Have you checked with Gene Barton on the retracts for your C-130? I beleive he has made a set for the larger one ( 132" ws) and a set for the Quailty Fiberglass C-130. The $550.00 I think is for the larger one.....Let me know..maybe I'll sell you mine...I scarped my C-130 project.....

Back in the 80's both FM and RCM published C-130s. One was balsa and one was foam. Both had pretty decent hombuilt designs for the retracts for the mains. Might try to hunt down those and scale the idea up.

Skip Mast designed a C130 in 1981 for Model Airplane news using foam blocks. It is the same one that Quality Fiberglas has developed. When I called to order my kit from Quality Fiberglas he told me to get a set of the MAN plans if I wanted to add flaps. He used those plans to prepare the fiberglass fuselage he sells. Skip used a set of Carl Goldberg mechanical retracts to work the mains and nose wheel. I have a set of the plans and you should be able to adapt a Robart gear to do the same thing. The plans are available at http://www.rcstore.com/rs/general/li...d=43&catego=PL
