RE: COX "Pica Duelist" ARF
Bill,
I am shocked..those are real good looking planes and covering jobs..uh...do I see pointed noses???..I thought someone in Florida...uh...did not like pointed noses on twins...What's this all about??
Twinman
PS On the Cox arf's..I may be dating myself, but they did do a LOT of control line arfs...uh...a "Few" years ago.

Andy:
The Duellist 2/40 built from the kit, and the Duellist 2/40 Mk II built from plans both had different ribs used in the wings depending on whether fixed gear or retracts were planned. The Super Duellist 2/60 Mk II had no provision at all for building with fixed gear.
The version for fixed gear had a single hard wood rail in each wing, with a groove for the LG wire. For retracts there were two rails for the LG mounting screws. The ribs and plywood rib doublers were selected during construction to accept one system or the other.
The nose gear mount, whether fixed or retract, was the same.
In other words, if the wing is built with the single rail mount, major surgery will be needed to install retracts.
It is possible (if you’re asking about the Cox version specifically) that the wing has been built with the double rails and a flange mounting used for the fixed gear. If so the installation of retracts will be relatively easy. We wont know until Cox tells us more.
In either case the wing and underbody will have to be cut for the wheel wells, and lined to keep trash out.

I may have to sell the Dual Ace. How easy would the duelist be to modify for retracts?

I'll tell you what, if Cox doesn't show up at "Twins over McDonough" with at least 20 of these aircraft ready to sell, they're really missing the boat.

According to what Mike Fritz told me on May 31st, production didn't start until eleven days ago on fifth June. So I'd guess there's still only the one prototype in the country. Maybe the fellow who got it will come down, but don't hold your breath. Again, according to Fritz, shipping from Cox will start late next month.

P-80:
If they are true trailing link, as on the OV-10 Bronco, there probably will be problems. The wheel pocket as supplied will no doubt expect the wheel to be centered on the strut. The trailing link will put the wheel center well behind the strut.
It could be done, but it would be a real bother.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone got there hands on one of these yet? Saw some pics members posts and was wanting to see some video of this thing, bet this thing has great flight characteristics. They really need to bring that price down a few $$$'s and I'll be making some video myself..

Maybe I missed something, but I just looked at thier site and they are saying Mid-September now. May have to go for a Phoenix or some other 60 size instead.

The question is how many kits could you have kitted from plans from the first post until now not to mention cost. I'm not rushing out to bag one any time soon. Cedar Models has their twin which was pointed out to me to be identical to the Duallist except for the vert. stab. Cheaper too.

I just got one of the kits. It's set up for retracts or fixed gear. Comes with fixed gear but putting retracts in looks like a snap. Cutouts and blocking already done...they just covered them over with covering that would have to be cut back.

I've posted pictures at this thread:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5177219/tm.htm
I did one picture of the wing so you can see where the retracts go.
