Cox has never made any ARRFs in the past. They did have many RTF control line models, ranging from poor toys to some planes that flew well. But never an R/C ARF in the past.

The Duellist 2/40 has always been an excellent plane, as proven by its being 30 years old and still popular.

Cox (Estes) has changed the spelling of the name for some reaon to "Dualist" but it still looks like the original Mark I version that Dave Platt first sold as a kit in 1976.

Cox did sell RC RTF's in the early 1980's. They had a 2 channel Cessna Centurion that was very popular. And they flew very well. They have a line of small RC ARF's/RTF's for sale right now, I believe they are electric.
I just heard about the Pica deal. I'm not sure what will come out of that. I'm really suprised that Cox is still in the game. But I'm glad to hear that they are.

PF:

You're quite right. I don't know whnat happened to my head; I bought one of the RTF Cessnas myself, and my son still has it.

Wouldn't do much more than fly around in circles, but it did that very well.

Might want to watch this RCU video from the cox booth @ Toledo --- looks like Cox is getting into ARF's in a big way.

p-80:

The Duellist 2/40 is an excellent plane, a great sport twin. If it weren't a really nice flier it would not have stayed on the market for 30+ years.

There is no question on the plane.

What we have yet to see is how well Estes/Cox has done the ARF, only experience will tell.

P-80:

The Estes/Cox plane looks exactly like the original Dave Platt design, the nose is done as he designed it.

Here are three other Duellists Mk I completed, and one shot of the Super Duellist 2/60 Mk II before covering.

Cox has it listed on their web site. I talked to them and they are preparing photos and line drawings this month. They are in production of several Pica kits.

The PICA models they're going to produce are all ARF's still, correct? The latest word I have is no kits.

After all the responses, I thought it might be refreshing to respond to your original question.

The answer is, "No. None have been delivered yet."

If I am in error, someone will correct me.

Best wishes,

At 319$ a copy it seems steep, hopefully the mail order rackets will knock down the price a few bucks.. Other than that it is a pretty ship.

Back in the "Old days," Pica listed the Duellist 2/40 kit for $195, but Quantun sokd it for $140, and included free shipping. The same deal would make the ARF go for $195 including postage.

All:

Just got off the phone with Mike Fritz, of Cox Hobbies. I was trying to talk him out of a “Dualist†ARF, to have it ready for “Multis over McDonough†the last weekend of June. I even offered to pay for it. Couldn’t believe I had done that!

I think I would have been successful if there had been one to ship, the one that was shown is the only one in the country, and it’s being fitted for flight by a modeler near the Cox offices.

Production is scheduled to start on the fifth of June, with USA deliveries approximately 50 days later. This would make the first deliveries on July 25. So we all still have to wait.

We did, by discussing the design source, determine that the ARF is the early Mark I version.

p-80:

The picture looks as if it does not, and I didn't ask about that specifically. But Mike said they were building the ARF according to the Pica .dxf cutting files. That would mean it does indeed have the downthrust as in the kit that Pica sold.

[b]P-80:

In level flight, 11x8 props, about 60 mph with the FA-56 engines. Maximum in a dive, probably 90 moh or so.

I think you would like the plane better with 12x6 props, but it wouldn't be as fast.

P-80:

If fast is around 100 mph in level flight, without overspeeding your engines, you'd have to go to a 12" pitch. Then you'd need to use the FA-82 engines. And the 10x12 props will be about as large as the 82s can handle. Might need 30% nitro fuel.

If you just want flat out speed your better chioce is going to two stroke engines. My C-3/10 with its twin Magnum 46 engines will run a little over 100 in level flight, and with a diving start comes close to 150.

P-80:

Not really familiar with the YS, but as I understand it the YS 63 engines are just a little less powerful than the Saito FA-82s. You will need to check elsewhere for confirmation, but I think the next larger size YS is the 110. You'd have a very hard time balancing a Duellist with a pair of them.
