Hi Bill. I'm Jason Motchan I sent my chip in last week on Wedsday from New Jersey. I'm curious if you got it. I know I'm not flying this weekend but i'm hoping to to be ready to go next weekend.
Also do I have to go thru the setup process again. The set up with my Hitek radio was complex and I wouldn't want to bother you with it again. Thanks. Deltatech

Hi Bill,

is it possible to use your twinsync and its remote glow drivers with two Saito 170 3 cylinder radial engines? Is the max current of the glow driver sufficient for three glow plugs?

Greetings from Germany,
Peter

Guys
I would really appreciate any input re the remote display units.
I have a twinsync with a 2 pin connector on the board, this is according to the manual the display connector and has one pin for ground and one for signal.

The manual talks about two cables running from the remote display one attached to an Aux channel on the twinsync or any Rx socket and is for powering the unit. The other cable is attached to the twinsync at the 2 pin connector and is presumably for signal input.

My problem is that I only have one cable from the remote unit so where does it go. I assume that if I connect it to the 2 pin connector on the twinsync that it will receive a signal just fine but what will then power the unit? [&o]

I had the same problem and this is what Bill sent to me.

"Black and orange go to the two pin connector (black toward the edge
of the board/rotary switch and orange toward the IC). Take an x-acto
knife and lift the locking clip and pull out the orange and red wire.
Put the orange wire beside the black where the red was. Cut off the
third connector slot then. That connector plugs into the two pin
connector. The Red wire then plugs into any twinsync or receiver port
on the middle pin (RX BATTERY +). You can put it into a new connector
with just the one wire if you want."

Cheers

Thanks blade...

you beat me to answering this question. Let me know if you have anymore questions. The displays just have one wire now since the Twinsync 2.0 has a 3 pin display connector. It is the same as the 1.4.X except it has a three pin with power in the middle rather than just ground and signal.

Thanks Blade and yl5295 for the info!!
I assume that it would be fine to graft the red wire onto any +ve supply line?

Should be ok using it on the 3-cyl saitos. Each glow driver circuit is rated for 11AMPS.

There is new update available now that will affect very few people but I though I would let everyone know that it is available.

The original 1.X.X twin sync reported low glow battery and unconnected glow plugs on one red LED. The newer version has two red leds (one for each glow plug). The red leds on the twinsync version 2.0 and newer reported low glow battery and unconnected/burnout glow plug for each engine independantly. However the remote display still operated based on the 1.X.X method of any problem was reflected on both red leds on the remote display.

I recently had an inquiry from europe requesting this update to the remote display so it now reports plug connection and glow battery voltage on the remote display with a red led for each engine. For example if the starbord plug is good the top red led will be on solid and if the port has a weak battery the bottom led will blink. There is no difference in the led operation on the unit but the update does make the remote display match the leds on the base twinsync board.

software updates are free (if you include stamps when you send back ICs).

P.S. if you have a 1.X.X version do not feel that there is a reason to get a 2.X version. There are no differences except an extra led for plug status and a seperate connector for the remote display. The control algorithms are the same and chips are interchangeable except for the remote display and glow battery voltage sensing. The 1.X.X version was less expensive too.

Bill,I've been using your twinsync 2.0 for almost two months in my cessna 310 with a futaba R168DF receiver with great results.I really like the independent run up mode. When I switched to a PCM receiver futaba R149DP whenever I try to use the AUX channel/switch 6 mode 2 the right engine servo jumps back and forth uncontrolably the left functions OK.I tried another PCM receiver with same results.Reinstalled R168DF worked perfect.I really want to switch to PCM .Please help Thanks,Bill Henderson

Bill4719,

The issue is not that the receiver is PCM but rather the receiver is 1.8 or 2.5V. i.e. the signal from the receiver is only 0-1.8 or 2.5v rather than 3.3v or 5v as most people expect. Some older servos may have problems with these low signals as well.

Which version of the TwinSync do you have 1.4.X or 2.X? It sounds like the 1.4.X version and I can probably just send you a new cable to solve this. If it is the 2.0 version then there is a pullup on the board that is probably too strong for this low voltage receiver and I can have you cut a trace and that will fix it.

Bill

p.s this update has already been added to units shipping now.

Bill,

OH YEAH, I cannot wait to hear my 4 engines singing in-sync!!!

I'll be contacting you soon for my order.

Is anyone using the Extreme Link 2.4Ghz setup with the Twinsync?

I recently stumbled onto the site and found a module for my 9303. http://www.xtremepowersystems.net/pr...od=XPS-CPJ1-10

I'm just seeing if this is in use and if there are any known issues when using this engine syncronizer.

Mike

It is being used with Spektrum radios with no issues.

Guys,

There is a mistake in the 2.X manual (documentation error only - no problem with the unit). I have sent it to RCS for putting it on thier web site. Mean while you can email me and I can send it to you.

The basic problem in the documentation is in programming position 5 (setting sync and full throttle point) the documenetation has the buttons backwards.

Hi Bill,

Is it not possible to utilize the signal sent from the ignition pick up, thus not having to install a seperate pick up for the synchronizer? A "y" harness?

-M51

Ps. Thanks for doing the update on my old #4.

I built a prototype that sensed the ignition pick up. In order to keep the ignition ground and power seperate from the receiver power and ground it has to be optically isolated. Otherwise spark noise can cause receiver interference. I prototyped a version that read the iginition and was optically isolated. Since not all ignitions operate the same and sensors are different, I determined that there was not enough of a market to justify a seperate product and the support required.

Hi all...

On my TF Cessna 310, the engines are side mounted which makes one of the engine bearers at the top.

I plan to mount the TS pick-up along this top engine beam/bearer with a small block of wood glued to a 5-ply mounting beam screwed to the top engine bearer.. This will place the P/U within specs to the magnet I will install in the 46AX prop/thrust hub.

The P/U will be at approx. TDC.

But, I will mount the magnet at BDC opposite the P/U.

Any problems with this set-up?

Thanks..Bo

sounds perfect...
clearance should be 1/32"-1/8" make sure the correct side of the sensor faces the magnet so that it senses each rotation by flashing the green LED.
