The first protype front cowling was 145 g(only laminated in glasfiber...i think the next could be on the 110 g......

the process of laminating was quite okay...next time i will use vacuum-technic.....

RE: NEW KMP TWIN - Adam Aircraft A500

Today ( my birthday) i open the mold for the rear cowling.....

I thought , that it could be difficult, even i had made 6 parts......

    but ....

it worked fine and only a little color and mastic from the original model is left in the mold...

now i have to clean the mold and polish and good waxing and start laminating the first prototypes.....

next mold is the main fuselage with only 4 parts (2 for the fuselagemold and 2 ( front and rear firewall) for the rest..

also some photos of the rear cowling

RE: NEW KMP TWIN - Adam Aircraft A500

Hi all A500 lovers- I finally got back in the saddle and have been doing repairs to my A500 afterhitting the ground hard at landing speed backin Feb 2010 as described in an earlier post.

Progress over the past month has been to finish the wing inside repairs with new ribs and some extra formers where needed, finish fibreglassing damaged wing areas from the inside, strengthening the originalwing skin in areas on the other side of a wing ribwhere awing skin fracture was made to repair it from the inside which meant making more inspection/work holes plus, regluing the LH boom back to the wing centre section where they had separated (it had split thru the wood not the glue). In places Ifitted triangle stock shaped to fit the wing forwing skin section replacements - eg: where a hole had been cut beside arib.

I also made a new RH landing gear plywood structure to replace the original one that broke 'cos it's made of soft plywood. My other retract mount fabricated earlier didn't break 'cos it's made of 'proper' wood. I found it interesting that the wing skin appears to be made of 1/32" thin balsa, or some sort of very thin sheet wood (I don't think it 1/64" 3 ply) that is fibreglassed both sides to make it a strong but flexible skin. I think the wing leading edge was made around a former or mandrel as there is very littlewoodin theleading edge except for formers where wing attachments are, plus some ribs that run up to the leading edge, and in each tail boom leading edge.

Which brings me to:- if carrying your model by a wing leading edge and say the fuselage, take care not to squeeze the leading edge too much 'cos it might fracture laterally - mine did and I had to repair it.

And finally - after sanding back, I laidfibreglassmat onboth the wingtop and bottombetween each tail boom to hopefully give added strength in tension and compression for the undersideandtop side. I laid the f/g mat with polyester resin, sanded it back and then overlaid an epoxy finishing resin laced with microballons. So far I can't bend or twist the wing centre section so I am fairly confident the repairs are ok - time will tell.

The pics show :- wing repairs with original wing skin andreplacement bits of 1.2mm thick 3 ply wood in places as needed, bogged up sections as neededusing red/browncolor auto nitrocellulose blade putty - pretty thin just to even out the repairs, extra inspection/work hatches cut out for access and 1/64" 3 ply shelves cyanoed and/or epoxied in place to accept back the panel that was removed, new retract support prior to instal and a 'first cut' sand of the wing top. Next, more sanding then masking and paint - watch this space

cheers and merry xmas to all (those that have christmas) - maxiemac

    smile, it don't hurt

Yes i think www.eurolight.aero in Germany has it on its homepage.

my kit i took from the boss of eurolight over ebay for 289 €..........

The quality was okay but not for me.......

i will rebuilt this kit on my ideas.......Carbon or Aramid fuselage with 3 mm honeycomb and booms and wings in full carbonfiber with Herex sandwich(wings)....

i expect to gain the original weight from 7-8 kg MTOW...not the 10-11 kg like mentioned here

    Best regards
