All the work that i have been doing to fix the errors in the cockpit section.
This incluse cutting off the "cab" section and re aligning it properly. I used water level to do most of this work as i didn't wanted to go by "eye balling it".

Once cab was re glued back on the fuselage, i started to fix the cockpit window frames one at a time. This is taking a lot of time as every frame has to be removed and newer thinner frame is added for better scale appearance. I am using a lot of downloaded pics from A.net for this purpose unless someone can provide me with Lockheed's original drawings, until then this is my way at it.

To do all this i made a fixture for the fuselage to sit on it, this way it will be fixed in one position while i do the work on it.

Left side is almost done, all i have to do is add eyebrow windows, forward cheek and side cheek windows.
I have already started on fixing the right side too, but it just begin today...

Hello

Wow your photos are a great inspiration for me to keep going I can see I have a lot to do still. I have made the fin and tailplane ready and now I will work on the loading ramp before I start covering the fuselage with balsa and then match the tail section when most of the fuselage is done. My landing gear and the engines should be in the post today so I can get the gear in before the fuselage gets to covered.
Keep those great photos coming they are very very helpfull.

I´m going to start the same project this winter ! Have a laserkit waiting on the shelf.

What engines are you going to use ? also what type of retracts ?

Thanks I am going to use 4 OS-91 fourstroke with pumps I have very good experience with OS 120 also with a pump in a Ziroli 101 inch B-25, three years of flying over 60 flights and not a single misfire or any problem at all.
The retract are the ones from Century Jet Models http://centuryjet.com/product_info.p...roducts_id/117 it is the one that are on the plans.
I think I have seen a video of your DC-3 somewhere on the internet very very nice model and flying. I can see you are from Sweeden so we are almost neighbours or at least from Scandinavia.
I am working on the ramp doors and the setup it takes some time but it seems as it would work nice.

Your C-130 repair/rebuild is coming along real nicely. I went back to page 52 and took another look at the pictures when you first got this bird! I have to admit, I don't think I would have tackled this project. Nice job on the foam wings. I've never worked with foam before and probably never will - I'm 71 now and pretty much set in my construction methods. Keep up the good work, you're over the hump now and it won't be much longer until you're working on new construction only.

Your project is coming along nicely too. You're a faster builder than I am. I wind up studying what I want to do, then study it two or three more times before I finally do it! I'm using this weekend to go back and pick up misc. items that I passed by before. Next week I hope to finish those darn spar webs so I can attach the ailerons and flaps, along with the control wiring in the wings.

The pictures clear up a lot of head scratching from when we last talked.

Great work. Looks like you and Mike were very successful. The 3/4" tube should work just great.

I see what you were talking about regarding the flight deck. Major work. Looks like you are going to win there as well.

Could just be me but I am seeing a very bright light at the end of your tunnel. I think you are going to win this one. Yeah!!!

It is looking like you have a firm grasp on all the enheritted problems and hopefully near the end.

Hello

Just a little update I have done the cockpit section what a work of balsa turning in all directions at the same time thank God for Zap CA glue. I have done some of the planking of the fuselage too and tonight I made a trial assembly and I discoveret that if I want to get it out of my hobbyroom I have to make the door a little bigger
Well every thing is going OK and I havent had any big issues yet mostly thanks to all the info and photos here in this thread, Roger I like your photos of the wings very much they are very very helpfull so thats perhaps the reason why I can keep up the work.
Here are a couple of photos my wife took this evening.
Three more photos I have now finished the covering of the fuselage with balsa except for the area around the landing gear I am still waiting for it to arrive so I will start on the wing center section but I think I have to study the plans a little first.

Thanks for the kind words, yeah it looks as i'm over the hard part now and it should start smooth sailing soon with newer construction.
I know not a lot of people that would tackle a distorted project like this but i think it takes a diehard to do what i'm doing with it. Mike is a great friend and very helpful person. We are working on other giant scale projects at this time too. (1/8th scale Avro Arrow)

Update on the model:

I have finished the full reconfiguration of the cockpit windows now, there is a bit of buldge where 3/4th forward side windows are on both sides, it seems as FF2A former was cut a bit too large on the sides which looks odd n buldges out a bit, so now i'm shaving it down so newer sheeting will attach nicely n evenly in this area.

I have also noticed that redome is out of scale a bit, it needs a bit of surgery on the lower angle where it tapers into the nose, this braces needs to be raised by 1/4" at the nose's tip, so it's sharper of angle vs curve line following it evenly in ot the curve. Plus top of redome is not right shape eith, there is slight buldge/curve where it starts at the fuselage and blends intot the nose's tip.
This is next task to fix and then to make L1 door on the left side.

Olsen,

You are really steaming ahead witht he bird, it's coming together real nice and fast!. I noticed that your configuration of cockpit windows is bit off too, they seems to be bit taller in height of the windows and window# 3 and #6 from front one being "0" are too widely open as they should be closed spaced in frame spacing. See if you can fix them.

Thanks for appreciating Dave, it is a lot of work for sure but nothing that can't be achieved.

Mike is real help and i'm honored to have him as my friend, he is very talented when it comes to building giant scale models from scratch. Next time i'm at this place i'll take few pics of his giant B-17 he built few years ago from Do Smith plans, have to see this model it's amaging machine...

Props4ever you are right about the framing I also discovered that when I looked at some of my photos I had one of the vertical stringers pointing almost outwards and one could also see it from behind. I have been correcting that so now it looks more symmetric. Here are two photos one before and one after. Also a photo of the complete nosesection I think I am satisfied with that now it just needs a little more sanding to make the nosecone more round. I am at the moment working on the tailsection and the ramps it is sure time consuming there is not room for much play in that area.

Looking forward to seeing an ultra-scale job on a "Fat Albert" come out of one of these projects.
Have never seen a convincing one yet (panel lines, rivets, etc.)
FA is da bomb.
Looks like a complicated build. Bought the palmer plans years ago. Will never use them, I'm sure.

Hello

Now it can stand on its own feet and the only thing I am missing on the fuselage now is the sheeting around the wheels. Unbelieveable that there are so little room for the mains in such a big model but it worked out fine. I will start the wing center section nexy week but it is really a big bird my wife and I tried to put it in my van today and one inch more it could not have been inside it.

I have been paddling on this rebuilt also, my speed is not as fast at Hernik's but still pretty good for all that i have to do on my beast!

Presently i'm waiting to take some breath before i continue to join to fuselage!, now this is very critical and crucial step and i want "Zero" screw ups on this one. Hopefully my friend Amyr will come over to help me out.

Cockpit re-construction is all complete finally, Wow what a experience it was!, presently also working on fixing the redome issues. I have added new correctly shape fillets on top of the stringers to make proper curve. Then i also had to realign the lower center stringer to more taper high angle but to this i have to make newer straight 1/8" ply stringer.

Both sides of the redome doesn't have proper compound curves built into it, so those are also being fixed at this time.

Few more..

Made newer Beaver tailcone, replaced old FF14's top half with newer Aircraft grade plywood former with notches cut on it to allow wing box to be mounted on the fuselage. I will be doing same on the
FF15's top half former, since this is the main area that will take all the stress and weight of the aircraft on landings, i want this wing box joint area to be as solid as possible...I may use carbon fiber also for reinforcement.

Payload carrying ideas.....

Since i don't just don't intend to fly and land this model all the time as other airplanes do, i want to make use of versatility of this model as in real life. I would want to load/offload payload in the fuselage, drop off payloads while flying from rear ramp, drop off paratroopers, do JATO take offs with Estees rocket engines and more including changing model variants and schemes from time to time.

Have anyone of you guys who have already built from Palmer design tried any of what i plan on doing with my model..

I'd love to see that, but no airborne pyrotechnics are allowed in Canada. []

Flares for heat seeking missiles would be nice too.

I've seen Fat Albert at airshows and I've also seen a drag/drop at Hamilton (I think, it may have been Trenton), twitchy to fly but very impressive.

Nice idea for the EC 130. Have you thought of how you are going to make the outboard wing pods? I have decided to add the KC 130 option to mine. It will have the drogue extend and retract from the pod. That part I still have to figure out. I took a picture of the wing tank in the plans, resized it in the computer and printed. I think I had better hurry up and finish this bird before this bird ends up with all options and can't get off the ground. LOL

Check your email for my thoughts on the other issue.
