WOW! Rates right up there with Cedar Hobbies B-17. Two good things about the B-25, 1st they didn't use glossy film covering and 2nd.. uh, 2nd...... oh well, I tried.

The Cessna 310 is far uglier....

The 25 has some obvious visual faults, but it is not that bad....'specially from 30 or 40 feet away...

Ummmmm.... I bought it. Its actually really a sweet platform. Im cutting the front and scratch building a new nose with clear plastic. Im redoing all the scale stuff. when Im done the only non scale looking thing will be the flaps as they are right next to the ailerons, the should be inboard the nacels. The quality of the covering and woodwork is VERY nice and all the hardware looks great. the only thing Im not so hot about is the way the wings are attatched to the body so I might modify that as Im cutting bombay doors into the body so I should have acces from the inside. I got 2 magnum 52 4cycle motos and it aught to be fun. Anyone else building/flying one, lets talk.

To all the snobs that are above such stuff, stick with your 6000.00 ziroli planes that are to precious to fly; meanwile Ill be at the field flying my b-25 droping finger snaps from the fully functional bombay doors.

Well I'm no "Scale Masters Qualifier" but the B-25 looks good to ME.... (for what it is)

I DO agree that the B-17 makes one shudder at first look so I'll be looking for the 2'nd gen version.

Well I have both wings done with engines and servos and controle rods (fuel tanks) in the nacels. Gear is on as well. I set up the rear horozontal stab (hinged it and all) also both rudders done and servos are in it. still have to put control rods on tail. have come up with some ideas on alternate wing attatchment but Ill wait till I finish the fuse mods before modding the wing attatchments. I still am impressed with the quality of everything. the instructions are not so great but Ive scratch built stuff so its no biggie. Its going to look awsome when done. Ill post picks when Im done.

Almost done. Wings, motors, all set up. I put in a full time glow driver system that can be charged real easy and will hopefully prevent much engine out situations. the nose turned out great. The front nose area was done scale according to online pics as well as the one at the pima air museum. The bombay doors work great but admitantly are not so scale. They open up like the real ones but I needed to add a small hump in front of the doors to prevent air from tearing at the doors. Since its painted the same color as the fuse it is hardly noticable. I have all the electronics in and working (13 servos!!!!!) The gear is on but I have not put on the wheels yet. The list of things left to do are as follows. Cockpit, fix the engine covers, side, turret and rear guns, decals, and thats really it. Ill try to get some pics of it up. the only real issue I have is the paint on the covering is VERY hard to match. Ive got it close but it looks kinda like someone touched it up here and there in the field scale bad bullet repairs!! Cant wait to fire it up and most of all to fly it. Plane has been and joy to work on. the quality of the wood and covering is awsome. Yes it aint scle but it is getting there. Im going to try to rework the turret and cockpit as I did the front gunner.

If there are considerable improvements in the looks, I might be interested in the B-17. As it is, it's just plane (pun intended), butt ugly.

I decided today I am not going to put the turret gun on. I have all the other guns mounted and theyt look great. But after lots of research on the subject, I see that many of the b-25's didnt have turrets and frankly they didnt work well, and the one supplied with my kit looks,,,,,,horrible. it also would creat a LOT of drag during flying. So I will do the 2 posts with wire and the little bulb like device (air indicator?) in between. Im really down to the little stuff now and I enjoy that kind of building.

Hey Dan,
I am thinking about buying one. Have you tried balancing it yet? This will decide what motors I put on mine. I use lead when I have no other choice.

Thanks,
Mark

Well At first it was tail heavy. Also the 1000mah battery was not cutting it what with the 13 servos and all. so I killed 2 birds with one stone. I got a 5000mah 4 cell D battery (nicad) made up at batteries plus for only 22 dollars. Now its pretty close to right on. I may add just a tad mor weight for a better glide in case of engine shut down. Oh I started it for the first time. Im flipping the motors to the Up position as they dont seem to like being upside down (bad idle quality despite the glow drivers). Major bummer but I would rather do it now than during the rebuild. I used the magnum 52 4 cycles because they are pretty good quality and right now they are on sale for 119.00 each !!!! something larger would fit no prob though. I figured Ill be burning enough gas as is. I hate the quality (lack of) of the supplied wheels. I will be getting some better quality ones before its maiden voyage. List of things to do....... redo engine mounts, go over wiring (right wing twitching when running), replace the right side fuel fill as it leaks!!! install cowling, add a few ounces of weight to front, fly...... hopefully by next month.

Dan.

Hey Dan,
Thanks for the response. Mine is on the way!!! I have not decided on engines yet. Is there an online manual I can download? I chose the silver one instead of green just to see what it looks like. Should be here Monday or Tuesday I hope.

Dont know about the online manual, the manual is not all that detailed anyway. I used it for just a general idea of how things went together. If I was to do it all over again I might have gone silver as well. The green is cool but it is paint so it does seem to scratch and also seems to suck in the fuel a bit and stain. We will see how it holds up. I think overall your going to love the model. I think if I was to do it all over again for the front lower windows I might have used strips of metal instead of wood for the framing of the nose. oh well Im still pretty happy with it.

enjoy

Hey Dan,
I got my B-25!!! I thought I was getting a silver one but it looks real green to me. I decided to paint it a more natural camo green and soon as it dries a couple of days I'll give it a coat of clear lustercote. Anyway, the quality does look good so far. Your are right about the manual not being very clear at all. Could you post a couple of pictures of things like the front wheel mounting, wing servo's, motor servo area, tail area ? Will the rudder servo's have to use a servo reverser or another channel? Any other servo's need reversing?
Any and all help is appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Mark

Boy You are going to prompt me to get to those changes I mentioned earlier Ive been putting the whole thing off as I also have a full scale dune buggy project in full swing ! Anyway Yea I ended up using one servo reverser and I do believe it was used on one of the rudders, I only did it as I had one laying around and probably could have gotten around it as I did on the wings. I only used the one servo reverser as I used micro servos on the throttles and reengineered the mounting, as I did on a few of the servos. Ill get you pics as soon as I start tearing down the nacels again to flip the motors (DONT MOUNT EM UPSIDE DOWN!!!!) sideways or strait up (my future choice). I did use a remote (full time) glow driver system. Ill get pics soon, maybe Ill get into it tonight and snap some off for you. My goal was to have it flying by the time it turns 60 degrees outside, I allready fudged that as mother nature is playing with us michiganders, but its back down into the 20's-30's so I was kinda planning on a maiden voyage by the end of april. Kudos on repainting. I had to do some touch up and it does not match (had to match as best as possible and it looks sloppy (in the field) scale in places).

I have a completed model the I did in electric power. I am using 2 Hacker A 50 12s motors, 2 TP 6s 2 p batteries and 2 shulze 32-55 controllers. Each motor pod contains a motor, speed control and battery. The plane needs a bit of up elevator to fly level and one of my wings needed a little washout put in to equall the other but otherwise flys very nice. The recomended C of G is a little to tail heavy for me so I moved up a 1/2 an inch. I also replaced the supplied guns with some aluminum ones that I painted black. I started with 2 apc 13 X 10 props. The perfprmance was way more than scale but fun to fly that way. I now have 2 MA 14 X 7 counter rotating props on there now and it looks and flys more scale like. This is a very nice plane for the money and gets nothing but complements at the field.

Very sweet. I thought about the electic route but it seemed to expensive and there is nothing like the sound of 2 4 cycles screeming

video of a b-25 nitro model crash. Electric motor or speed controler failed on takeoff. took the hit well though.
looks like the nylon bolts on the nacels worked to take some of the impact.

That would be my B25 crashing. I got 5 good flights out of it and then something went wrong with one of my motors. I liked the plane so much that I got another one. The plane does fly nice once you get it set up right.
