Hi all,
How are your 310's flying? I've been flying mine for 3 years, standard build with a pair of 70 Surpass. Just did the yearly thorough check, I had to replace the bearings on one engine (must remember to store on the wingtip to keep the engine upright and the ARO over the bearings!)

I'm going to do a new paint scheme, after a poll at the field the "board" unanimously decided on this one:

Started with the nacelles, it takes patience and quite a few steps: wet sanding, priming and masking. A LOT of masking!

Im not sure what the plane is, and the box does not match the plane. the box is for a Cessna 310 by top flite, but the plane is something else...
wondering if its a 150 Cessna, or Ercoupe... or something else. perhaps other readers will know... best, orion.

Hello orion
The plane out of the box is a CMPro Cessna 182, wings 1.6m I just park it there because no other place. Cessna 310 is new in the box. I want to build it in very slow rhythms and full scale. I have some questions to the experts (later)
Thank you Elias

Finished the paint job, I'm quite happy with it.

Here's a few pics from a New Year event I attended - the rain was on and off, provided an opportunity for some interesting shots

Thank you for your kind words
It turned out to be a lot more work than I expected, I've painted several warbirds and thought that a GA subject would be easy ... totally wrong!
In military camo any mishaps are likely to look alright (weathering / field mods?), however doing high-contrast trim lines on the Cessna was a test of my patience and skills - I ended up doing many parts twice to get them right.

Anyway, its done now. I am looking to scale up the cockpit next, any tips?

I second the "great paint job". Plane (and your work) deserves to be appreciated.
Even when dark the detail you want is in the pic.
These minor corrections were done with a couple of clicks in a photo program.

I wanted to add a quick follow-up. I mentioned before the pictures were great. now that I have a minute I wanted to mention and commend you for the perseverance and time you took to do such a detailed and exacting job. I am in the process of making some repairs to my 310, and will have a professional painter paint my plane. I know when I just don't have the talent, time, and energy to take on such a mission. also, I sincerely thank you for telling me about the difficulty/problems that you encountered and conquered. now I wont complain about paying my painter to do a great job.
best regards, and know that you did a terrific job on your plane that many of us cant or wont do. terrific job. BTW. I am customizing my interior with carpet, seat covers, painted man, map box with maps, steering yokes, hand made Cessna emblem for rear compartment wall, and GPS PAD (little imitation gps card) up front. everyone comments about the extra weight. oh well. it will be beautiful when it crashes! ha!
also, I love the paint scheme you chose, especially gold. I will be using the blue lines for guidance, and will use two shades of green, and gold, by House of Kolor. I am also toying with the idea of some highlights in the interior with burgundy, green, gold accents. time will tell. hopefully it will be the most beautiful "hanger queen" of them all. ha! thanks for the inspiration! best, orion4455.

I forgot to ask. what kind of power are you using? electric or gas? and, did you add any "extra stuff" like landing gear doors, and other things? just wondering. I was lucky. bought mine from a retired guy who built the plane exactly according to instructions. did a great job. anyway. just wondering. best regards, orion4455.

To be honest if I had to do it again I would take it to a pro painter too. At times it was not fun but plain frustration and an exercise in patience.
I had some old bottles of House of Kolor and used the White, what I found, alas, was that it was not compatible with the gloss clear I used on top and had some areas peeling. A pro painter would've known that I guess.

I also got mine 2nd hand, it has 2 OS 70 Surpass 4-strokes swinging APC 13x8 @ 9,000 RPM, Powerwise I would say they are perfect fit, and the sound is awesome.
I did build the gear doors with 1/16" ply and G10 as they were not included

Please post pics of the painted exterior and the cockpit details as you go along!

thanks for the update and advice. I noticed you are making your gear doors. just found through an internet search that I cant find a set of doors. they were available for $60.00, but are now hard, if impossible, to find. again, its obvious you have great knowledge and work skills. im not sure I would have the ability to make my own doors. alright. best regards on your work and great plane. orion.

Do you have the matching Robart gear for the C-310?

If you wish I can PM you the plans or even build a set if you can cover the materials and shipping cost

Hello Zain, from Richmondbc, one of my favorite areas. NOw, take it easy. think slow. building the super chipmunk and a tucano is excellent. sort of gets you in the working mood. next, make sure you have a giant work table, with nice cover, lots of tools, food, drinks, and microwave and bathroom. (toilet paper is always a nice bonus). OK. let me save you hours of time. first, don't put in expandable foam. the wing is already together, and you will hear a lot of popping. it may be pulling the struts/ribs. SO.... don't foam. I did, and in hindsight, its not wrong, but its work I would have skipped. next, get a carbonfiber pole to replace the long pole supplied by topflite. us it. nNEXT. FLAP COMPARTMENTS. in the little flaps compartments, on each side, you open the flap door and will see the wing rib ends. measure a thin hard wood, like 1/16 inch thick, and cut a piece to fit way into the compartment snug against the wing. the pieces should be about one-quarter top to bottom, half inch long, and one-sixteenth inch thick. you will glue each piece into each small compartment. once all pieces are glued in, then you will finish by painting white. NOTE: THE WOOD GRAIN ON YOUR INSERT SQUARES MUST BE PERPENDICULAR TO THE GRAIN OF THE WOOD OF THE WING. YOUR GRAIN SHOULD BE 45 DEGREES TO THE OTHER WING WOOD. THIS GIVE REALLY THE EXTRA STRENGTH YOU NEED TO KEEP THAT WING TOGETHER WHEN YOU LAND AND THE WING TIPS WANT TO SHOW OFF AND TOUCH THE GROUND. HENCE, THE WING FLEX. YOUR LITTLE BOARDS WILL PREVENT THE WING FROM CRACKING. SO.... YOU WILL HAVE NICE WINGS AND NO CRACKS... HOW DO I KNOW? THE GUY WHO SOLD ME MY PLANE HAD A "LITTLE ACCIDENT" BUT DIDNT TELL ME UNTIL I BOUGHT THE PLANE AND WAS HOME 5 HOURS AWAY. ANYWAY,,,, I FIXED THE WING, AND THE FOAM WAS DOING TOO MUCH.
NEXT AND MOST IMPORTNAT STEP, MAY BE HARD, BUT YOU MUST DO IT..... FIND A HELPER WHO HAS BUILD ONE OF THESE 310'S FROM SCRATCH, ACCORDING STRICTLY TO PLANS, AND YOU WILL HAVE A TREMEMDOUS PLANE WHEN DONE. OH, BY THE WAY, I TOOK ALL THE BB"S OOUT OF THE NOSE OF THE PLANE BECAUSE I PUT IN A MUCH BETTER NOSE LIGHT, LIKE 800 LED. I NEEDED THE WEIGHT OUT SO I COULD ADD WEIGHT TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANE ACCROSS FROM THE LIGHT.
GET A GREAT BUILDER, TAKE YOU TIME, AND YOU WILL HAVE AN AWESOME LOOKING AND FLYING PLANE. YOU WILL BE IN LOVE. alright, that's lesson one.... start along and then let me know... I will no leave you hanging (as many other flyers have done to me. when you have a 310, people sometimes get airplane jealousy, and then they don't want to talk or fly or ..............so good luck, amigo.

NOW, IM STILL LOOKING FOR A SET OF LANDING GEAR DOORS FOR MY PLANE, AND I WANT TO BUY A COMPLETE 310 KIT ASAP. ANY IDEAS, LET ME KNOW. IF NOT, IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, EMAIL ME.

GOD BLESS, BUD. GOOD LUCK. TAKE YOU TIME. ENJOY THE BUILD. HAVE FUN..... THEN GO FLY LIKE A MADMAN!!!!!!!! HA HA HA!!!!
