Orion, your concerns are understood. I am very familiar with the construction of the TF 310. I also have read the entire 153 pages regarding all the modifications others have made, Not that it makes a big difference but I do not have a substantial amount money invested in this model ,I picked it up for 250.00 including the Robart Retracts and 2 brand new OS AX 55's on it. I just wanted to see/hear of other peoples ideas. Nowhere did I mention I wanted to go over 90 mph with this bird, I just want the reliability of gasoline and the feasibility as well. The DLE 20's are reliable and mount on rails not requiring standoffs, so to me they are a great choice. I am aware of on board glow igniters but I want to shy away from Nitro powered models all together and go all gasoline. I understand there are purists out there that like to keep everything "As Is" but I prefer to put the gas motors on this particular model. Thanks for your input, I will keep you posted. dear rotten 4851
WOW!! what a deal!!!! ROBART RETRACTS AND TWO OS 55s MOTORS on a plane for $250... great for you an early merry Christmas..
I think I know what DLE 20s are, but what does it mean ",,,,on rails not requiring standoffs,..." thanks so much for the note. love reading the posts on this account. AND, id love to find another 310 kit, prefer NIB. found a fellow down your way, had one all finished. didn't like power set up or id have purchased it.
anyway... thanks for the reply... best wishes at Christmas...Orion....

TheDLE 20 has ears like glow engines do. They mount on traditional glow engine mounts not standoffs like the other DLE models

Default Cessna 310 DLE 20's

Hey there Rotten 40851 ,Figured out the pic attachment. Lol. Here are a few pics of the DLE 20cc mod that I'm doing on my Cessna 310. I have a couple small holes drilled that will line up for carb adjustment. I had to cut off the front vertical nacelle ends so the motor mounts would fit. Added extra strength by adding the carbon fiber sheets. Again all switches will be located in the fuselage.

Looking Good dobro, U.P.S. is delaying my 2nd DLE 20 so I will be starting the mod most likely next week sometime. Not exactly sure what I am doing yet in the way of glassing/CF. I will probably put in a new firewall and smaller tanks. Keep the pics coming as I will post mine as well when under way. Cheers, John

ok educate me here. how does power size of DLE 20 compare to the OS 46ax. also, I'm not a fan of cutting fuse, wing, or nacelles for 310. however, the pictures show you are doing some really clean work. id like to see what the nacelles look like once fitted over the motors. thanks for the info and pics. Hi!
I built and flew a similar Cessna 310 (Marutaka) 40 years ago that was powered by two ENYA .40X engines and it flew way way too fast.
Soo if you want to have a nice flying model build it light. That means choosing the lightest engines you can get your hands on ( OS FP .40 ) and carving a away every unnecessary piece of wood you can find.
No way I would use those heavy gassers pictured!

Hello,
I just put OS 55AX engines on my Top Flite 310 and I'm not sure what size and make props to put on it? I fly off of a grass runway and the OS .46 ax engines barely got the plane off the ground. Hoping someone out there has perfect prop size for this combo.
Thanks,T.C.

Barzini, what part of upstate New York. just got an email on your question. I run OS46axs. I cant advise you on the props; HOWEVER, you can run two blade and three blade props with the OS55s. there is a guy, a real wizard, on YOUTUBE. his name is TINKERMANRC. He has a three part build series on youtube about building his 310. I'm sure there is information on his props and numbers for them. pictures as well. if you can reach his website, you can send him an email and he is actually quite good at responding to questions from 310 owners. this would be the fastest route. also, there is a build number for Topflite in Champaign IL. its in the build manual for the plane, and may be on Tower Hobbies website. the Topflite tech guys should also tell you which props to use. Finally, as a third choice, id write something on RCGROUPS.COM asking which props to use, and you will get lots of replies. be specific in mentioning your engines. there is also a complete BUILD THREAD ON RCGROUPS.COM, if you need additional information. OK. tinkermanrc, Topflite in Champaign, IL; and, RCGROUPS.COM. that should get you the info.
AS A PS: I researched the OS46ax against the OS55ax. if I remember correctly, the stroke was a bit different with the 55's, yet power wise, and speed, the change was minimal. IMHO, I think OS just came out with another engine to just make money. I like the OS65, but the mounting, the cutting of the nacelles, etc, for me, make it prohibitive. OS65's would really be a lot more power, but I don't want to sacrifice the plane. if you know of any 310 topflite kits that are complete, and not started, let me know. thanks. hawkeye.

Barzini. I may have made a mistake. this site, RCUNIVERSE.COM, has the build thread. I said rcgroups.com. that site may have a build thread, but I think not its here. sorry.hawkeye.

Nacelles covers repaired. Inside nacelles cleaned out for components. New firewalls glassed in. Engine mounts mounted. engines mounted on mounts. New throttle servos installed. Coming along. should be ready in a week or so.

looking good there on your build. I finally got mine fired up the other day. It was a warm day here in Ohio, so a couple buddies stopped by and we took advantage of it. One engine was sucking air a little on this video. All I have to do is sync the throttle curves and she is ready to go. I'm using a JR 11X radio that will let me set two separate throttle curves. Here is a link to my first engine run with DLE 20CC engines

Awesome!!! Good Luck, Where did you put your ignitions? I moved the throttle servos back and will put Tank and ignitions in the fuel tank compartment. I had to use smaller tanks but they should be plenty for a 8 - 10 minute flight.

Having trouble getting photos to post. Says I'm missing a security token. I mounted my ignition on the left side of the nacelle. I used 10 oz fuel tanks. total weight is coming in at just a little over 25 lbs. I'll send a pic when I get this figured out.

Default Cessna 310 DLE 20's

Sorry orion4455, meant my reply for Rotten40851. Check out this link on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/rcaaworld/?ref=br_rsThere is an add with a 310 for sale you'll like. Les Smith is the members name. To answer your questions, these are DLE 20CC gas engines. Yes I did strengthen my wings. My wings are foam filled. There is a post way back here somewhere on how to do it. Thanks for your reply.

Search RCAAA (RC Airplane Addicts Anonymous) on facebook. ask to join the group. It is a closed group. I just asked to join myself. A friend sent me the original link. If you use Facebook and messenger, send me a friend request Bob Haglock and I can share the link I have.

Finally re-maidened the 310 with the DLE 20's on her. Flew like a champ. Stable, plenty of power in reserve and sounded sweet. Plane is awesome. For all who said DLE 20's are too much. Sorry to disappoint you. The plane flies better than ever.
