Hi,

looks fine indeed - what is your planeĀ“s takeoff weight? I am close to completing my kit-built Pica Duellist, same Os 50SX engines, with a Robart 520W pneumatic landing gear. Engines are installed upright, I am using inline headers and tuned pipes on top of engine nacelles. And yes, how about prop size - I am also planning 3 bladed ones currently

thanks

Speed-Panzer....

Wow...I didn't know Formula 1 racing allowed twins!

I have had several Pica Duelists, but never w/pipes. They have all been quite fast and the Cox is no slouch. Used to run OS 40FSR's....great and fast!

My Cox airframe is 11.5 # and my framed up airframes usually were around 9#.

Thanks for the comments...I will remove the extensions. Forgot to post the details, props are APC 10-7 three blade, Tru-turn spinners turned by OS .50 sx's. Robart retracts, SR 6volt 1000mah ni-cad in the nose. I4c whistles mounted in nacelles, Tetra aluminum wheels and all Futaba PCM guidance. Some more pics:

PJacobs,

I will be curious to know how the three-blade props work. I did not need the weight in the nose, but am also running 6V.

What are 14C whistles, and tell me more about the Tetra wheels...

Thanks,

Bo

Thanks for tech data, I am planning same prop size (3 bladed Graupner 10x7), and KDH nylon spinners. Did you tach rpm of your 50SXĀ“s with the 10x7 APC 3-blades, with std. silencer? Radio will be Graupner/JR PCM, 4.8Volt 1400mAh.

I have heard people talking of those whistles, but never saw (or heard) ones myself. How good are they doing?

Bo,
Will test fly after Toledo and hopefully after the snow melts as we had a surprise 4" yesterday. The wheels are used by pattern aircraft which I flew in the 70's and 80's but I think they are still available from Central Hobbies. The whistles sound really good on my GB Ultimate so I have added them here to enhance the twin sound. I chose the three blade props for ground clearance as our club has a 800' x 50' paved runway....I'll let you know how they work after the maiden.

Has anyone besides me found the mounting arrangement for the retract nose gear to be very weak and spindly?

Anyone tried Robostruts?

Bo and Paul, those are 2 sharp looking dualists/duellists. Black de-icers are a nice touch.

Bo, I've used Robostruts on mine, but I don't have a nose gear. On the other hand, my main gear are longer than stock and I've had one botched landing where I folded the gear back into their wheel wells. The 3/32" wire bent, but the robostruts were not bent in the slightest. They're quite strong. I carry a few extra pre-cut lengths of 3/32" music wire for just such situations.

Work is really getting in the way of fun!! I finally (since Christmas) have gotten back to my Duallist. I stripped the factory decals and have cut out and put on my own. Here is the preliminary work.

I'm building a MKII from MAN plans and happen to have a pair of old K&B 4011's in good shape. Whats the optimum setup with these? I plan to mount them at 3:00 and 9:00 in the nacelles. Do I need the reversed crank for one of the engines? Moffler setup? Thanks.

Bo,
Finally had the opportunity to get the dualist out for the maiden flight along with another club member. Mine has OS .50 SX and Dominic's has OS .55 AX. He also installed BVM wheels with brakes and Robostruts. They both flew extremely well and it reminded me of the old Dirty Bridi and Tiporare's as far as handling. The speed is impressive and it could be good practice for a pre-jet trainer.
There will be more images posted at our website www.foxvalleyaero.com in the members gallery.

Paul,

My Duelist suffers from that long spindly nose gear. Tell me more about the Robostrut that your friend used, please. Did he have to reengineer the nose gear wheel well.

Thanks,

Bo

Bo,
Yes he did have to modify the arf. In order to get the robostrut in, the wheel well had to be removed and the CG changes with the gear retracted. The jet wheels from BVM are heavy machined aluminum and a bit pricey. The wheels and brakes add $200 to the kit but they look good and are quite functional. Dominic flys jets so he is used to using them and it's nice to see it land at 60 mph on the runway centerline and stop in 40 feet. We have 50 x 800 of asphalt but you don't have to use it all. He also used BVM air valves, guages, and brake lines. It was also interesting to note that mine sounded and looked like it was a bit faster with the whistles and three bladed props. I was getting in excess of 13,000 rpm on the bench and Dominic started with 12 x 8's (9,000 rpm) then went to 11 x 7's (10,000 rpm) and finally to 10 x8's (11,200 rpm). We'll see after they are broken in but I'm sticking with the screaming three blades.

Are you having problems with the long nosegear?

Bo,
No problems yet...we fly in robarts home town so I know where he lives. I don't anticipate a problem as Bob Walker taught me how to fly R/C 35 years ago and he and his products have been around a long time. We have three other club members building the T/F 310 arf but I haven't seen any fly at the field yet. It's hard to imagine the same engines on the dualist being able to carry the weight of the 310. Here a shot of Bob at the memorial he designed for our field.

Ok, this is for the Cox Dualist ARF - but anyhow, I think you may like to see my kit-framed up Pica Duellist.

Now I am almost completed with the finish job, still my race number 5 is missing on rudder and wing. Retracts and RC need to be completed.

thanks - plane is ready now for maiden flight. Engines run superbly, retracts work fine, everything seems to be set.
I am waiting for better weather, and right wind conditions. Our flying field is quite declined to one direction, and I would like to land up-hill. I will post a message after fist flights.

Speed...

With the exception of the spindly nose gear, this plane just does not have any bad habits. I have a couple of dozen flites on mine and it is a pleasure.

I also have a Dual Ace, a TF Cessna 310, Twin Stik, and two Platt builtup Duelists.

Hello Bo,

thank you for building confidence! It is my first twin, but it looks right, and I expect it to fly as well as it looks. My Duellist will have about 11lbs take-off weight. Do you remember weight of your Platt-Duellists?
Nose gear: I changed attachment of nose gear from that tiny nose bulkhead to rail-mounting.
