RE: C-119 Flying Boxcar ARF
Thanks LEM,
I heard a lot of horror stories about long wires from the controller to the batteries... I have many electric twins and I always put extensions from the controller to the batteries but I never had any prtoblems with that setup... What I do is chosing bigger escs so that they always stay cool. Yesterday I maidened a CMP Transall C-160 with 2 x Turnigy 3548 1100kv, 60a escs and 10x5 props, powered by a a single 5000 mah 4s lipo. What a joy! It flew like a dream, despite many negative experiences from people on this forum.
The FlyBoy Fairchild Boxcar is an interesting airplane. I'll keep you posted on the build.

RE: C-119 Flying Boxcar ARF
Hi guys my name is jim I run 8 Eflight 32's in my latest project thespruce goose it spans 12ftandweight is48 lbs, it has 2ft of wire from the thunder power 4s 5000 packs to the castle 60 amp controls then up to 6 ft runof wire to the motors and it works very well, 2 motors per battery about 8 min. flight time.My favorite aircraft is the c-119 boxcar. I built a 90" span sport scale boxcar with 2 os 60's as a test aircraft for a future scale boxcar project, it flys like a dream 40 flights nowincluding a successful dead engine landing and has been retirednow to a collector. The next will be a 109" span 1/12 scale kit I hope to offerafter the test flying of the prototypeand plan on offering it withfiberglass fuse and booms as part of the kit.We are working on the design now. The test airframe was just a sport scale model to see how the boxcar would fly as a model andit flew exceptionally well. here aresome pics of my sprucegoose and the c-119boxcar test model. Good luck to you all with your boxcars. Happy landings Jim

Hi Guys...
I've had this ARF C-119 ever since it was first sold by Fly Boy Models. The kit was not what I was told when I contacted the company and I do not like the plastic parts at all. The booms on my kit weigh out at one pound each, and to me that is way to heavy for this size model. I was going to go nitro with two Fox 15's, and after I set out all the parts for this model...it turned out to be a heavy model for its size wing. I did see one built up while on the main land, at Sepulvida Basin flying field for sale...and it was electric powered. I may just build the model for disply, but until I hear of one fly...I'll just keep on dreaming about a flying Box Car. I worked with them in South East Asia...and would love to have one to fly.
Soft Landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

RE: C-119 Flying Boxcar ARF
It's spposed to fly...
I have about 2 dozen airplanes, all electric, and from my experience I can tell you everything is possible with the incredible variety of electric setups now on the market. As for the FlyBoy Boxcar, I have to postpone the project until next Spring, but I'm confident it will be a success. But I agree with you there are not many pilots out there who have testfied they succeeded in taking this baby in the air...

I can't remember who made the C-119 ARF but I had one of their planes, very cool.
It was a Boulton Paul Defiant "turret fighter", designed by the British to fly under German bombers at night and shoot them down with their 4-303 cal gun top turret, no forward firing guns.
Good luck on the Box Car, will make a great volter.
