I have to agree with Mike setting up all dirted up with full flaps and gear coming in steep with an assault approach to a round out flair just over the fence setting it down on the mains like a butterfly with sore feet ... PRICELESS

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Update on my Bronco arf build I'm about halfway threw stripping the covering off. I would post some pic's but I left my camera at work. But I'll post some pic's later. Anyway as I'm stripping the Bronco I'm thinking what power plants I'm I going to use. Glow is out so it is up to gas or electric. I was talking with a friend and he has 2 zenoah 20cc engines he would sell to me cheap but I think the 20's are a little too big. But I told him I'll pick them up and see if they would fit and we will go from there. As for electric I have seen many if Rich Uravitch's post and video of his electric Bronco I've always wanted to try a bigger electric plane. I've got a little more money this week do to selling a kit so this money will pay for my engines or motors will see.

Here is the update on my Uravitch Bronco completion. With the exception of the cockpit and canopy all finish work is done. I have installed and made operational all radio and retract gear. The new RCGF 15cc gassers are installed and waiting on the Bisson Custom mufflers. The finish is 1/2 ounce glass cloth applied with West Systems epoxy, primed with automotive acrylic lacquer primer and painted with Behr exterior house paint. The all up weight with the pilots in the cockpit is a bit over 24 pounds. This a pound over my target. My first Bronco weighed 22 pounds with GMS glow engines and Monokote. The 2 RCGF engines added a full pound over the glow engines and I added an extra flight battery for redundancy. This and the extra wing sheeting (no cap strips) for the paint brought the weight up. I looks like it will balance without extra lead so the 24 pounds is it. I don't like the extra weight but that's the price you pay for gas and paint. I'll report on the test flights when they are completed.

I'm concidering using the RCGF 15cc gas engines and would like your input on them. I do have 2 = Zenoah 20i's I got from a friend but I think they are to big for the AFR Bronco frame. Also are the 3-blades props used in flight?
Thanks

Here is 4 USMC scheme's I'm considering to recover my ARF kit.

The CD I sent with the parts has a large number of photos of my walkaround of the only privately owned Bronco in the US taken during BroncoFest V near Fort Worth, TX. It is the third photo in this set. It will probably be the one you pick. More detail than you will ever need.

The RCGF 15cc engines are enough power for my 24 pound Bronco but just barely. I painted my Bronco so if you Monokote the stripped ARF you should be able to get it in at about 21-22 pounds with the engines. Another alternate for the RCGF 15s is the JBA 15. It has front mounted carb and beam mounts. All of the reports that I have seen says that it is bit more powerful than the RCGF. I think the G-20IE's will be too much engine for this model.
Here is the link for the JBA engine on RCU. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9609247/tm.htm
The Master Airscrew 3 blades are used in flight. A Xoar or Bambula 2 blade would provide more thrust but then it wouldn't look as cool.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Hey everybody
Today is the official 8Th. Birthday of this thread! I had to post something today, I wanted to put up some pictures of my build but I'm just to sick to do much today. I caught the FLU from my daughter! I would have to say I have never officially had the Flu until now! I thought I was going to die, but I think I would have to get better first to die! I got tired of just laying around so I thought I would get on the internet to pass some time then remembered today was the 18TH. Everybody have a great weekend I'm going to lay back down I'm getting dizzy[:@] !

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Just a small update and pic's, I finally beat the Flu I don't ever want to catch that again so next year I'm going to get a Flu-shot. Last night I finished stripping the Bronco. All of the covering pulled off by hand no heat needed. I hated to do it but I seriously think I would of had the covering coming off in flight![X(] Just 3 areas on the the wing and left vertical stab I had to use heat to remove the covering. I did find a couple of wing ribs that had cracks in them and 2 pieces of sheeting was lifting up off the rib. I also had a some damaged sheeting on the horizontal stab. All areas where easily repaired But know I want to fill sand sand some dents and joints. I would like to start covering the Bronco but I have to place an order for it the LHS only stocks the covering that is relatively used. I think I'm going to work on mounting the retracts as well.
I was wondering if anybody out there modified the wing so it could be broken down in two pieces? I have a couple of ideas 1: to add 3 hard points and bolt the 2 wings together. 2: Cut the outer wing half at the outer nacelle add 2 hard points and a wing tube I would also have a add another servo to operate the outer flap this would bring the flap servo count to 4. Does anybody have any other ideas?
Lastly The Bronco pic below is the scheme I'm going with. To me the wing looks like it is entirely painted white? Does anybody know for sure?

-I made a 3 piece wing from modified plans. I added 2 more servos for the outboard flaps, it's just a matter of connecting the ailerons and outboard flaps, sliding the panels together and fastening them. I figured the fewer things I have to assemble at the field, the better.
-I tried to copy the '68 VMO2 squadron in Vietnam, but the picture wasn't clear enough to tell if the bottom of the wing was white or gray, so I just made it white.

You said you did a 3 piece from modified plans, did you make the mods your self or did you get the plan mod from some body? The wing is already built because it is an ARF "I'm sure you know that" I want to make the 3 piece wing like you did even Gaine Smith's Bronco has a 3 piece wing it would be nice to only plug in the wing panels and not have to asemble the hole frame. I had another Bronco ARF with the one piece wing and it we a bit of a pain at assemble at the field. I'm just a little scared I don't what to cut the wing to find out I have to pull off the sheeting as well and then there goes the ball game.[:@] I guess this is what make the hobby so much fun! Thanks for any help you could give me.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
To be honest, after inspecting the ARF's wing, I decided to start over. I started with the Uravitch plans, but instead of making a one piece wing, I made the main center panel and two outer panels. The panels are joined with 3/4" aluminum tubing and sleeves from TNT. You will also need some smaller tubing at the trailing edge to prevent the wing panels from rotating. If you check out some of the bigger aerobatic planes, you will see a similar set up to install the wing panels. When I finished, the 3 piece wing was stronger and slightly lighter than the ARF's one piece wing! I also saved ~2oz in the tail by replacing the horizontal stabilizer; the wood they used to frame up the stab was very heavy. For some reason, the distance between the nacelles was different on the ARF, so replacing the stab solved that problem as well. Note, every Bronco seems to come out tail heavy, more weight aft of the CG means more nose weight later on.

Here are some photos and a drawing of the fill and cap ribs I used to make the three piece wing. A TNT tube and sleeve assembly is used for the joint. Works great; make the cuts carefully and you won't have to strip the wing covering at all.

Hmmm, maybe the next OV-10 will have a 3 piece wing?!! Double check your dimensions to make sure your plane will fit in your vehicle, I had to separate the wing panels at the nacelles to make mine fit in my car. Because I also wanted to make some changes, I decided to start over.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
CanDo makes a good point. Measure your vehicle before deciding where to cut your Bronco wing. When cut at the point shown (outoard flap/aileron juction [color line also]), the center panel spans 52". The same technique would apply if you decide to make the cut just outboard of the nacelle, but you will need to make minor modifications to interconnect the inboard and outboard flap panels.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
I agree Form what I measured if I cut the wing panels like you did the main wing panel will be 52" with the plug in panels removed. This is what I need for sure and will fit in my truck for sure. Thanks aeroscale for the wing modification and pic's this will help a lot.
Lastly any update on the 109" Bronco plans???

What size wing tube did you use 3/4" or 7/8"? I can't print out the diagram my printer stopped working.
