Hey snotnrun
How did you get your problem resolved? I sent the check directly to Rich. It did post so I know he got the funds. I have never had problems with Rich in the past. This just seems kind of unusual to me. So Rich if you are still monitoring this thread please chime in.
Thanks
Ron

Hope this thread is still active. I just picked one of these up, and am trying to get some info on them. 1. The elevator is controlled with nyrods. The elevator does not seem to center all the time when I return the stick to neutral. I have plenty of throw, but am leary of the nyrods. The guy who had it said it flew fine. 2. What are the control throws? 3. What is the flap/ elevator mix? 4. The plane was built with nylon control horns bolted through the control surfaces...seem a little light for the size of the plane??

Go with what your little voice is telling you. Nyrods are not a good thing for elevator on anything as big as .60 size or bigger. For me, 60 size and bigger demand 4-40 hardware too. As for Nylon control horns, what size. Little white ones should be reserved for little planes. Thicker, larger, stiffer ones can give good results.

I am not a fan of nyrods but If you have the 81" version I have it was a very practical solution for the elevator. I have two with several flights with no issues. Our club has had same version with no issues.
Just keep a good check and you will be OK. If you want to build airfoil stab to replace the flat stock, then you can hide a thin specialty servo. That is a lot of work and not worth it at this point.
Just make sure all your fittings and control horns are good quality and Installed correctly. Take the time to set exact travel and throw on each servo so they do not fight each other. You can spray some lubricant in nyrods. Make sure there is no binding. Control surface will return to centrer during flight if not binding and small deflection.
Great flyer, just different, you will enjoy. After you get proficient and want too, then rebuild as it suites you.
I have one 81" stock like yours. One scale built custom 81" built with airfoils at elevator and rudders. Then one 96" KMP and they all fly great. Luv em.

Another problem with nyrods is that they expand and contract with temp change and change your trim settings.

My Broncos are disassembled and stored for winter so I cannot measure throws but I would start at: Ailerons 5/8" High - 1/2" Low.
Elevator 3/4" High- 1/2" Low. All of mine are balance on spar at high point. Plane is very forgivinv so adjust throws to fit your style of flying. Planes needs mid flaps 30* for takeoff otherwise you will have a long runout on take off and a quick sudden take off. Relocating main gear can reduce that but accept Iit and it becomes a none issue.
Will update if I can find my notes.

Kim,

I too thought the elevator flex rods were to soft for such a large elevator at speed. I simply put two servos in the tail, problem solved. Notice I also added a block of hardwood to the fin and bolted my wing on. Wood screws into balsa didn't work for me. I can't give you the control throws mine is disassembled, I just got my Sierra Gear it is amazing.

I bought my first Scale-tech (Hobby Hanger) one as soon as they were advertised some years back. Mine had hardwood blocks so no change was needed there. I did make my wing a three piece for easier transport after first season. Used a match box to setup flaps. Also switched to Sierra gear which are very robust and worth every penny. There were four other Bronco built in the club, all scratch built from Urivich plans. They also used nyrods but we all had short exposed inner ends, flex was not an issue, but the inner rods cannot have much exposure or it becomes a problem. Understand and appreciate the concerns, just was not an issue for us on ours.

The Nyrod system in the OV-10 has been trouble-free for years when properly rigged. As dmyers has pointed out, there is very little exposed rod where it exits the vertical fin. Here is the control throw info...............

No, got the plans just about detailed and have molds made for the nose, rear caps, cowls and huge canopy. Don't know if I'll have a kit done or not, might just wait to see the interest in the plans.

I assume you will have plans, fiberglass components mentioned and canopy for sale? Available date? Cost?

I've used reworked Williams Brothers pilot busts in all my 81" Broncos. They're inexpensive and look pretty good when you adjust their heads so they don't both have that beady- eyed, straight ahead stare!

Thanks Rich, She didn't come out this past season, but I'm putting all new servos in, giving her some much needed love, and she'll be rippin' it up again next year!
