Did you go with the G20 EI or the std magneto?

Also seems that other forum
KMP F-7F Tigercat
here in RCU is getting more build notes than here. So you may want to check it out.

I have read both threads with great interest........... Unless I missed it, I never did see what the wing area is on this bird.... Even the manufacturer does not list it. Anybody know?
Thanks

Thank you. That calculates to 944.64 sq. inches. The two planes flying in this thread came in at about 28.5lbs. (one electric and one gas) That calculates to a wing loading of just a shade under 70oz per square inch. Doable, obviously because of the flight reports, but cetainly on the very high end requiring great care and an experienced pilot.... Will be interesting to see what weight the nirto projects will come out.....

My Dad and I are working on our F7 and we've come up with a problem. With the triangular spring mechanism in middle of the nose retract, it is not able to lock closed. It hits the base well before it can lock. What are we doing wrong and how is this fixed? We have built the Typhoon and had problems with the retracts as well but we were able to work through them but this is has stumped me. Has anyone flown this plane with the stock retracts? Any issues? Thanks.

jaycam,

The triangle spring mechanism is the scissors I believe. You have three choices.
One: Turn them around to the front (Not Scale) so they do not hit the cylinder when they are retracted.
Two: Take them off and do not use them. They are just for show anyways.
Three: Buy a retract that is of Better Design and Quality

Read through the OTHER Tigercat Tread. It has a few posts about the Issues with the stock retracts.

Good Luck.

i was hopeing you could help me. let me start by say i ordered the f7f in chicago, i am a dealer for kmp and have also owned a p-38. i was wondering if you could tell me how you mounted the nose gear and the door. if you had pics i would greatly appreciate it, i have been modeling for about 25 years so i dont think i am in over my head but would be nice to have some help. by the way i am using the rcv 90's. andrew from kmp says it will pull it nice. i really pulled my p-38 almost vert. so i have no doubt it will do just fine......thanks again for all the help ......chris

seeing as the Zenoah G20 seems to be a popular choice for this plane, where are you all mounting your ignition modules & ignition batteries?

from trying out possible mountings for the ignition today I have come up with either:
1 - next to the tank on a plate mounted between the tank support former and the main woodwork in the nacelle
2 - on a plate fitted to the firewall so it sits a little above the engine in the top of the cowl (and no need for holes to pass the HT lead out the nacelle)

Does anyone have better idea (or even pictures of how they did it)?

I'm going to power my Tigercat with electric also. I was looking at the specs for the Himaxx 6320-250 like you used and it's only rated for 1700 watts max. each. How did you get 2000 watts per motor? Or did you use the Himaxx 6332-230? It's rating goes up to 2200 watts.

Thanks,

Wayne

Hi, guys,

I had my F7F maiden last sunday here in Taiwan and it flew like a trainer except some serious problems with the landing gears. During the build, I had lots of problems and I will try to post my experience lately. Hope this will help some of you still working on this bird.

I am using 4000w eletric power for my T-cat :

Himaxx 6320-250 250kv outrunner x2
Jeti Adavnce 90 ESC x2
APC 20x10 E prop x2
TP5000 10S Lipo x2
58A draw on each motor
13 servos : 2 ailerons, 4 flaps, 2 elevators, 1 rudder, 1 gear/air, 3 gear doors, 1 electric switch for landing lights
2 NiMH batteries : 1 for Futaba 9-CH receiver and 1 for JR Multibox
Total weight of take-off : 13kg (28.66 lbs)

Check the other forum out. Here is a link to Vkester who has built and flown his with G26's. [link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=6755834[/link]

We ended up doing all the build talk in that forum

Hi all.
Has anyone made the outer wing panels removable? I have some ideas on how to do it, but would love to see what has already been done.
Also looking at hinging the main gear doors. Any tips?

thanks

I did the outer wing panels to be removed and they worked great. See the other Tigercat build thread, some others followed and did the same. The way I did them they are very very strong and proven.

Hi all, My T-Cat has a pair of G-20 engines and it has more than enough power for any kind of flying you want to do. I did change the factory retracts, they are weak and will bend on a less than perfect landing. I went with Sierra and they sure are nice air up air down. On my first flight with factory gear the nose wheel would not lock down and it folded after touch down, no damage. My Cat came it at a little over 28lbs. and have had it out in 18 plus MPH wind and it does great. Got to go to work.

Hi; I put the module next to the retract using ty-raps on the inbouard side and the battery and switch in the back of the nessel (sp?). I am using a 2700 mil JR and it's good for four 15 min. flights. I have 18 flights on the T-Cat so far.
