Triple Telemaster progress report
MyTri-Telemaster .40 is built, engines tuned/sync'd...so the day of truth is coming soon.
My Garage Sale Tele has it's original Fox 40 on the nose and a pair of OS LA .40's mounted in nacelles. Individual throttle servos and fuel cells, 1200 ma battery pack. It will be interesting.
If it makes it through a few test flights, I will refinish the airframe with nice new glitz. But first it must prove itself!

Three Engines
At the extreme risk of getting on my squeaky soapbox, may I add a small word about safety with three engines.
Always use an assistant with any multi engine plane.
Set up the engines to be reliable individually, do not make final adjustments by reaching across the running engines.
Always start the engine farthest from you and work toward your self. Never reach across a running engine. Example, if the engine farthest from you dies and the center engine is still running. Stop the center engine before attempting to restart the engine away from you, and even more important if ( And Murphy's Law says it will ) the engines are running and the far engine stops. Stop all the engines to restart the farthest engine.
Once they are all running, go to full power, with assistant, and hold the plane straight up and listen. Any power change or sag, needs to be addressed now, before the first flight. Again, there are a lot of spinning props, that are just dying to get a finger or worse, with all this running. Be aware and careful of multiple spinning props.

Looking good
Hey Russ like your setup should prove to be a neat flyer. Don,t forget the float setup for it. It looks like the London Bridge float fly is back on for November and even on the old beach
. The Quad Kaydet is flying well now nine flights to date and will be doing up the floats pretty soon.
It sure hurt when the last one was cancilled but I think everything is resolved an hope to catch you there with your triple in November.

I would love to be able to post pictures but my computer skills are just not up to the job and I have no one to help. The Avitar picture is one I finally got my daughter over here to attach for me. Maybe I can get her to do some more.
The politics for the Quartzite show ran thick this year and I don,t beleve it came off either but had some discussions with 'The Lawnmower man' and I think He will do it agine next year. By the way he is sponsered by John Deere now and is flying public shows for them all across the country and has done a tv commercial in deere colors. At any rate this was the one I had in mind setting the Quad up for night flight and it is equipped with an internal Glow Wire system and incandesent color coded position lights. The neighbors think I am a little strange sitting this thing out in the street in the middle of the night all lit up and trucking up and down the street in my wheelchair looking at it!
I am looking forward to seeing your Triple. One of the Havasu float flys a gentleman from Flagstaf had a Giant Telemaster on floats with three gas engines. For transport he had that thing broken down even to removable nacelles and tail.

Baby Wipes
Indeed Robby this thing certainly brings new meaning to that common product.
First off Robby I think you very much for posting these for me. I do find my lack of computer skills sometimes embarasing.
Bill think you for noticeing the windscreen. Since the idea of the whole thing is as a kind of caracture comic book airplane I have always loved some of the earlier airline windscreens as in some Fokkers and the early Boeing 247 (I suspect the purpose of which was to minimise windscreen ice, probably not to successful).
The airplane is powered with Magnum .25LX's which I am very happy with and best of all they seem to spool up very closely.
The fuselage is mostly stock but the wing has increased span to 85 inchs and an area of 1237 square inchs for a wing loading of 21.9 oz per square foot. flying weight with full fuel is just over
twelve lbs. It is equiped with mid chord spoilers and an internal glow night light systems as well as orientation lights. Also float attachments but the floats are not done yet.
So far nine flights on four different days and it has exceeded most of my expectations, it is a real thrill to fly. Not particularly fast but handels very well, the roll rate tends to be slow so rudder is needed most of the time but I also cheat with aileron to rudder mix. It is certainly not aerobatic by the normal definition of the word but big barrel rolls are delightful and loops if done carefully can be big and slow.
Only one engine out to date and that was deliberate by short tanking the right inboard (the least significant on loss) and there was dificulty telling when it had quit. I will work my way up to the left outboard the most critical but don,t expect any major problems.
The only real problems has been the single strut nosegear was to light and tended to just bend on takeoff when a correction was applied but this has been corrected by a Fults double strut unit.
The goal is to fly it in the London Bridge float fly next year now that it is back on and in the traditional Saturday nite float nite flight that has been so enjoyable over the years. The last two flights were done down at Lake Havasu during their combat event and crowd just loved it. This has been one of my more enjoyable projects.

You are right. I forgot the B-247. And didn't the early Stout tri-motors (1-AT & 2-AT) also have the reverse rake before Ford took over the design? And, if I remember, the first that were labeled Ford, also? I know the 3-AT was conventional.
And with that much weight out on the wings of your QK I don't think you are ever going to get a fast roll rate, just another reason to stay with twins. Haw.

I think the Stout Air Pullmans before ford bought them had coventional windscreens, I just checked but I couldn,t find a picture. There were probably quite a few examples of the forward rake window. The last American Fokker airliner the F-32 four engines in push/pull nacelles did have the most striking example of this canopy though. I think only one or two built and the last one ending its days as a gas station on Wilshire Blvd in L.A.

With the .25's it flys well, not a killer machine, but flys well.. How
go you think it would be with say,, .40's instead.. Only a minor
increase in weight but a lot more pull power.. And of course, a
definate increase in sound <YES!> Leaving all things as they are with just slapping on some .40's... Do you think it would be a
better performaning plane.. ? Do you think it would fly noticably 'heavier' ... ?
