Anyone heard any news about your outer wing-panels???
Sure is quiet on here with only one bird in the air.............
Amazing isn't it. One bird out of how many I wonder. It is very quiet as you point out. Kind of a shame isn't it?

Very much so, considering how nice they are. I can't believe there are NO builders left to fix stupid stuff like this.....

Since you are now out of projects I have a SUPER Sweet American Eagle F8F Bearcat that you could tackle instead of laying around eating Bon-Bons....

Sadly, it's undoubtedly the "deadest" build thread on RCU.

Given the discussion I have had with Andrew, we should have our wing tips by the end of this month. But we'll see

I am biting at the bit to get mine started. I've got 2 weeks off over Christmas, so, I will DEFINITELY be working on this bird. Should start more activity on this thread.

Hey Eldher,
Why would you wait until you have the outer panels to start working on this bird?
There is SO much to do that, even with 2 full weeks you won't come close to finishing it.
You should get all you can done now so that when those new panels come in all you have to do is hinge them, put a few servos in and finishing touches and poof, you're done!
You don't need the panels for anything else on the build - AT ALL.
Just my two pennies worth to encourage all of you owners to GET OUT THERE AND START ASSEMBLING!!!!!!! Spring is right around the corner and you'll wish you had started three months ago - I promise!!!

I just started unpacking mine(I mean after actually inspecting the parts for damage).
I have to finish an ME-109 first, but I'll be able to start on this one in about 1 or 2 weeks.
Anyhow....
The motors I'm using are two saito 170 radials
I am also going to try and use the robart 630 mains and a 640 105 degree nose gear since I have them on hand.
Kinda of a shame to mess up the nice apache girl on the nose though, but am planning on an aluminum scheme.

Good to hear that you are starting soon, kahloq!
Un-packing is kind of an understatement. I had smaller MOVING BOXES from my first apartment than the boxes than this -25 comes in!
BTW....Are you sure those radials will fit the cowlings?
They barely fit the KMP Tigercat, and these cowlings are TINY comparatively.
I'm sure you've checked, but I just had to ask.
That Silver 25 will sure sound great coming down on a dive-bombing run with 6-cylinders wailing away!
Which scheme are you doing - a modern restoration or WWII original style???

Yah, F82Fan, I expect that I'll start over the Thanksgiving holiday. Just been too busy to work on _any_ plane, let alone the wonderous B-25.

Seems like one of the tricky parts is getting the engines set up right (i.e. the same on both sides). Comments?

As for power, I have 2 Saito 150's that I plan to put in it.

Working to breath life into this thread!

Setting the engines up the same....
If you are talking RPM-wise, then you can mix things through the radio or use a TWIN-SYNC to match them.
If you are talking alignment- wise, no, they are perfect just the way the airplane is made.
Either way - NO PROB!!!
Glad to hear that you are gonna jump on it.
Good luck.

I plan to start mine soon, also.

It'd be nice if we had the outer wing panel replacements in time for the Thanksgiving holidays! Guess I'll start on other areas of the plane while we wait for those.

As for power, I'm currently thinking a pair of Saito 125's would be about right. Too bad we don't have more of these flying yet, so we could hear feedback on how she flies on a variety of engine choices...

Uh..no the cylinder heads will not fit entirely inside the cowl. But then, no single cyl 4 stroke of appropriate size would either(unless using rcv 120sp's).
Also, aside from the great sound these 170's will make when running(two of them at once)....what good are they for static display if you cant tell the plane has them I dont mind that about 1/2-3/4 inch of each cylinder head will poke out. That will definitely get attention at a warbird meet like Warbirds over the rockies.

As for scheme.....I have a few ideas in mind and one of them is basically my own scheme and not based on an actual real plane. However, no one would know this unless I said so.

Good deal. Nice to hear about original ideas - After all, every one of those airplanes that we replicate were "original" designs the first time.
Nice thing about customizing is that it is totally YOUR bird - not like any others. GREAT!!!
Get Started all you Mitchell owners!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just test checked the cowl size to the radial motor. Not much of the cylinders will poke out at all....but, the further forward they sit, there will be slightly more. I will try and get one of the cowls cut for the cylinders tomorrow and take a pic, but it may require some ingenious idea to get the cowl actually over the motor. I have thought about making hinged hatches to allow clearance to get the cowl on and then be able to close the hatches once the cowl is on. This could also aid in changing glow plugs when needed thus not requiring the removal of the cowl to do that.

One thing that bothers me about the cowls though is the non-scale air intake duct. For a $700 arf, KMP dropped the ball here. heck, even the TF one got this right...and even the previous generation KMP had these much closer.
Aside from that, the cowls go on in a much better way with this bigger B-25 then the older one. My GOD, the older version was a pain in the arse for mounting.

As long as we're sharing color schemes ...

I'll be dong "Show Me". A couple of photos attached, these are from the Commemorative Air Force Missouri Wing. You can find more picts at: [link=http://www.cafmo.org/AircraftGallery/index.html]Show Me[/link] if you're interested

The first is my favorite, entitled "Not IF but WHEN". A great shot of the B-25 coming in with the left engine out.

Simple question: Do the outer wing panels remove for transport?
As I understand it, the plane is not designed this way, but rather for building the wing as an entire unit. I myself will NOT be doing that. I have a few ideas on how to make the wing tips removable. Shouldnt be that hard, but need to get the new correct wing tips in order to get working on that. Some ppl have said they want to try and drill and tap a screw through the aluminum wing tube that goes into the outer wing panels. This should be effective, however, that is not how I am planning on doing it...although my idea is similar, it doesnt have anything to do with the aluminum tube itself. But, I may end up having to do that if my idea doesnt seem strong enough. If anyone has seen the H9 Fokker DVII, the lower wing panels slide in on the aluminum tube and there is a wood tab with blind nut that slides into the fuse and a hex bolt is then screwed into that blind nut from the bottom of the fuse to hold the wing on. This is what I have in mind...however, it would be done with two tabs and two blind nut/hex bolts per wing tip
Others have said they were concerned about having a seem at the wing tip meets nacelle and will glue the pieces together and transport the wing as a whole. Regardless of whether you glue them together, that seem will be there unless you physically cover it with something permanently.

Yup, you got it right, the wing is designed to be glued up as one piece. But as you mention, there are likely a number of approaches to making the tips removable.

Who else out there is looking to make the tips removeable? Ideas on how you plan to tackle it?
