[b]Hey! How is your B25?

I have had several flights on mine and a few problems to resolve. I made the big mistake of buying the crappy Chinese retracts. Nothing but problems.
I finally removed the retract portion, kept the struts and fixed them into greatly beefed up new plywood and aluminum.
So I am wondering how your retracts are holding up? Which ones do you have? Robarts? Which model?

Thanks much. Happy Holidays!

Dr. Mike

Hey Dr. Mikie,
My new retracts are the Century jet unit that I picked up from Tomas (www.vqwarbirds.com)
I have NOT had a chance to put them in yet, but they appear vastly superior in every way to the CRAPPY ones that are nothing but trouble.
I probably wont be able to install them until January ,so no flight reports till then.
I will update when it happens.
The Century Jets are only a little more $$$ than the CRAPPY ones, so you ought to just bite the bullet and call Tomas!
Regards,
Wally

I have 16 flights on mine and LOVE the plane

I'm still using the crappy ones, but can see the end of life for them soon as I am getting more play in the travel. Overall, they continue to operate OK, but are getting sloppy (forward/back travel). I have had to add bushings to the wheels to reduce play on the axle. Also I replaced all of the air system components (from the beginning) and I run 2 large air tanks at 120psi. I have _no_ problems with reliability, just the slop that's developing. [>:]

Are you guys seeing other problems with the gear?

Is anyone else flying one yet? I think there's just the 3 of us? DrMike, F82Fan, and me??

Thanks guys for the prompt replies and info!!
The main problem I had with the KMP Chinese generation 5 retracts was with each landing (some not quite as gentle as I would have liked) the aluminum yoke, that the steel pin slides in, would widen increasing the slop. With the increased play one of the main gear collapsed on landing. My beast is 33.5 lbs!
The aluminum in these knock-offs is not high strength stuff.

Merry Christmas to all! Best wishes for a healthy, prosperous 2010! Good flying!

OK, Dr Mike, I am seeing the same thing. I've had a few hard landings, although, I'm only 28 lbs. But mine are getting sloppier so, will be replacing them.

Looking forward to F82Fan's flight report on the CJM.

This thread is really dead [&:]

But I'm sure some of you guys will still be reading. I've put some pilots in my B-25. I was not into the full cockpit detail, just more work than I wanted right now. But I wanted a few details. So I dropped the "floor" of the cockpit by just over 1" and added some distractions. The photos are a progression of the work, think you can figure it out without me typing a tome.

I'll upload some with the canopy on in the next post.

Enjoy!

Thanks. I think I might be able to use them in my B 25. I purchased the cockpit kit from KMP and plan to finish it in a few weeks. I have been looking for some pilots to finish it off. These should work great. Thanks again.

Kahloq,

Can you tell me how you did your silver color scheme? Is I just painted? I'd love to do something similar. That plane of yours looks great!

Anyone out there that is still on this thread will be MUCH appreciated. I just got my KMP B-25 95" and am confident I will need some help and suggestions. There is no better sight than this for helpful ideas from those who have built and learned the hard way.

I have heard and read the center section of the wing is weak. Is this something I should be concerned about or fix during the build?

Thanks to all and hopefully this thread stays alive.....I'll need it.

Those of us in Northern Colorado are following the learnings and subsequent advice from Eldher13 and are modifying the center section before the first flight. Sounds like it's not if, but when. I'll try to include a picture or two of modification I made. After the bracing was in place I resheeted the area and fiberglassed the underside with 3/4 oz. cloth. ....obviously I'm a novice in the forum so I need to figure out to insert photos.....
