Thanks for the welcome, and I am very glad to be a part of this club. I already have a few questions to ask.
Are there any options for retracts other than robart? (little pricey)
Earlier in this forum i saw where someone used what looks to be 3/8 alumiunm tubing for the joints just outside of the engine nasels on a 3 peace wing. Was wondering how that turned out and if it was strong enough? Our part finished 310 has been done in a similar way, wing flexing is my concern and didn't know if it needed a total re-model to a one peace version or larger wing tubes.

Not meaning to cut in here but I like the carbon fiber wing tubes located here http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/categ...par-Tubes.html this company is just one of many that sell cf tubes. I have read accounts of problems with the aluminum tubes not fitting well and causing wing wag.
If you check back just a few posts you will see where one builder has ordered a retract set from Hobbyking. I am waiting to see just how these work out as they are much less expensive. Hope this helps.

Ethan, the aluminum wing tubes are of the original design, check the plans from the other kit that you have and you will see
that is the way that Bud Nosen designed this aircraft, for ease of transportation, the outer panels are detachable. There is not
a flexing problem with this system, as long as they fit without a lot of slop, but if you decide to go with retracts you will more than
likely have to notch the tubes for wheel clearance, check back through the thread and I think you will find a picture posted showing
this. A one piece wing is a huge undertaking, yes it is stronger, but remember this plane has a 10 foot wingspan, it would be like handling a long
"surf board", not to mention transporting that massive wing.
On the question of retracts Robart I have been told are the best for this model but, I think that Sierra Giant Scale made a set
for the Nosen 310 at one time but they aren't shown on the web site anymore. Centry Jet Products has gear for this aircraft
but they are just as pricey as the Robart's. Spring Air also made a set that was suitable for the 310 but I haven't been able to
find them on their web site either. Check back on the last couple of pages, one of the group has ordered a gear set from Hobby
King for there 80cc T-28 and is waiting on them arriving to see the quality of the product. But just remember that if you put all
of this time into a model of this size you don't want to cut cost on one of the most important areas of this aircraft.

I believe you might be looking at some of my Pics, about the 3/8 Alum Tubes, If your wing is not built yet do the mod and use a larger tube
for the joints. Mine are about 3/8 tubes with Solid steel in the centers to stiffen them up. However they do flex a little bit when moving on Grass
my field is all grass with a runway and taxi ways cut down to 1" and the rest is 2" if I put retracts in it I will use a larger tube and socket
with alignment dowels front and rear. as far as attaching the outer wing panels the Plans show 2 screws throught the tube under the nacelle.
I modded mine to a single bolt between the tubes with a solid hardwood block in the outer panel and tapped for the bolt, to tighten the bolt
I have a hatch on the nacelle that i can open to get to the bolt. Hope this shed some light on the subject for you. If you have any questions

Again, thanks for the welcome. Will enlarge the wing tubes but never thought about using cf insted of alumnium, do want to keep the easier transportation of the 3 peace wing. Will do some more looking on retracts with Bill's point in mind.

The glass fuselage is definately the way to go to save weight, I am still in the wing center section mod that I have been
working on, which involves moving the wing tubes both forward and aft of the positions shown on the plans, as I have
recently received a set of landing gear I can now move forward on this project. I will finish the wing and tail feathers
before moving onto the fuselage, although I have been doing some prelim sketches to include the full cockpit kit from
Bob Dively Models.

Hobby King T-28 gear came in today. That didn't take long.
The gear looks OK. Not as good as Robart's but not bad for 1/5 the cost.
The welds look OK. I'll get a better look later when I bead blast the primer off.
The nose gear indeed is not 90°. It's not out as far as the 310G's but it dose stick out.
Main gear are a little long and will need to be trimmed.
Just by mocking up the gear locations on the plans it looks like they will be a good fit.
I was a little worried that they would be to large and heavy since they are "80cc" gear.
However my first guess was right. Hope the T-28 guys make nice smooth landings.
So for right now they look nicely made. I won't trust the air fittings though. I'd buy a name brand set if I was going to use them with air.

Last night I remembered the wing dihedral angle. The main gear just might fit without trimming do to them being mounted higher as the wing angle rises.

Amish once you bead blast the primer off, let us know if the joints are braised or weld joints,
I would do some filling tig welds as these joints look suspect,if they are welded, especially the
nose gear.

The nose gear on ther full size Cessna 310-G model is 105 degrees, the wire gear shown on the plan is
a bit exagerated, I think Bud did that to give it the rake that is a charater of the 310 nose gear.

Bryan you will have to wait a bit they are currently on back order, go to the Hoby King site and do the "e-mail me when they
are available" request so you can jump on them quickly when they get them back in again.

Na, this is flying season. My 310 is on display at the local mall, I"ll get back to it in the fall.
The last thing I was working on was the air cylinders for the front gear doors, they worked out well.

OK, I'm bummed out! I went out today to run some errands with the family, then took the boy to the park for some fun and when we got home I heard a pair of WW2 Radials in the distance. Now I know there is a WW2 Weekend at a local airport usually the second week of June, but thought I would check the website to see. Well it turns out the airshow is this weekend and the thing that bummed me out is the B-29 FiFi is there this year and I have to work Sunday, so I won't be able to see this rare Multi-Engine Beauty!! CRAP!!!!!!![:@]

Here's another rare aircraft they have on display during the Airshow which is being restored to flying condition. I saw a documentary on the recovery of this plane and also saw the crates it was stored in several years ago at the Museum. Enjoy...and thanks for listening.

Well it finally happened, I maidened the 310 tonight.
We have our annual Open House this Sat and any demo flights, the Plane must have flown
previous. So out I went tonight What a sight and Sound it was fantastic.
Required 2 clicks of up trim nothing else. What a relief it is done.
I know it has taken a while since I posted it was ready, but had some family
matters to deal with and had been stressed out. So doing a maiden
was not a good idea at the time. Sorry did not get video on this one, but will have some on Sat.
and will post it. Anyway the one thing it needs is retracts. Next on the priority List.
