I have a set of gently used wheels and tires from my Tigercat. I also have a set of Sierra gear to go along with them if you are interested. I will make you a great deal or anyone for that matter.

Many thanks

Yes, if anyone can let us know what they successfully used for CG, it would be most appreciated. I have a matte blue TC with two RCGF 20's and Sierra's that I bought from a good builder a couple years ago and have not yet flown as I too am nervous about how heavy the one-piece wing is with the engines, gear, tanks, etc...

flyscbs 03-11-2015 05:06 PM

Hi Worzey, My model is a Kondor the all glass wing and fuze type of some years ago, it's balance point is 117 mm aft of leading edge out board of engine nacails or 4 5/8 inches, as per instruction booklet, would like to have sierra's for mine also, but using the later type retracts that was offered at the time with no major problems, My engines O.S. 120 AX, bison mufflers inverted style 15 x 7 3 blade master airscrew, inverted mount, on board glow driver, 21.6 # weight, the small air vessel for the retracts is a pain, only a couple of cycles worth of pressure, electrics would be nicer I think, most of the weight is the wing assembly, your 20's should pull it around ok, , just keep the engines running well, you have a model that is rare, have fun with it, it is a head turner at the field, Craig B.

I will be running two VVRC 40cc twins on 18x10 beila props and will run hydraulics on the seirra retracts so i know they go up and down. any videos of yours flying?

Thanks, Craig. Just wondering if it would be the same CG (117MM aft of LE) if mine is the ESM version (fiberglass fus, built up wings). Not sure if there is any material difference between our planes. Would appreciate if anyone with the ESM plane could also comment on CG.

flyscbs 03-12-2015 05:18 PM

Hi Sporto, If yours is matte finish its a ESM kit, they offered two finish colors a few years ago, Kondor was only gloss in color, later Kondor kits were offered with built up wings, but was still gloss blue in color, from what I have seen the ESM models are the same in layout, some differences in the control surface hinges, the Kondor has caps for the surfaces, wings and tail, the ESM does not, the leading edges of the control surfaces are rounded on the Kondor, the ESM's are more angled, as I remember, the covers for the bottoms of the nacails are two piece on the Kondor, one piece on the ESM, the nacails have one large hole for the spar tube on the Kondor, ESM has two large holes, for the spar and second for wiring, air hoses and such, a nice after thought as I had to do some drilling for those runs, there is no mention if CG is gear up or down when measured, I balanced mine with the gear up, there some change in CG when gear is cycled, does not have a major trim change on mine, but you still have to correct some in the pitch, do you know the or have an idea of the weight of you model ? I had to use some "dead weight" in the nose of mine, after flying it a few times I removed some of it thinking it was a little nose heavy at the orginal balance point, there was an pilot asking if I had any videos of mine while flying I have no video, wish I did, even though it has a large vertical fin and a large rudder, if you lose an engine, well baby you got to use it, use very little ail input or it will roll over like a puppy dog. had that happen once at speed, so it wasn't that bad, had to fly it to the runway at speed, and hold it down on the ground till it wanted to stop flying, fuel tank issue in the left side, changed the tanks, an other pilot stated he wanted to use a pair of 40cc engines , I think that would be "overkill" on this airframe an gear , weight wise an speed wise, this model was orgianly up for .90 to 1.20 size glow engines, smaller gas substutes are not a bad idea, just finding the room needed for the ign. batts the ign. modules just makes it harder to set up the model But to get back to what you asked me, I think the balance point as stated would be a good starting point for you. If you have any other questions just email will try to help you as best I can, Craig B.

europatc74 03-13-2015 05:41 AM

The best way to start is to CG where the book tells you to. You can always add a little to the nose if you wish. If you are not an experienced War Bird pilot I recommend a Buddy Box or let an experienced pilot fly the maiden...relax. Have fun

Sporto 03-13-2015 12:36 PM

Thanks flyscbs and europatc74. Will keep you posted.

Maiden next week, video will be published as soon as possible ;-)

How did It go with the maiden? Any videos?

affas 09-29-2015 10:25 PM

Unfortunately no videos. I only got two flights before I decided to sell the plane due other projects. The flights was both successful and the plane do track very straight andand nice. Just keep the good speed up inflight.. The landing was predictable and steady. The speed was acceptable but not slow.

Would you say that the 170s was a bad choice? What props did you run?
Greetings

affas 09-30-2015 11:24 PM

The Saito 170 runs so beautiful with www.ch-ignitions.com and the power is very good. Only concern is the weight but I actually don't think the few extra grams of weight does matter.

If I decided to go for another Cat I would prefer Saito 170 or the new Saito radial gas

My ESM Tigercat maiden. Next flight will be longer. :)

Good to hear! What is the weight of your plane and what engines do you have? I hope to fly my Tcat real soon, just waiting for my on-board glow drivers to arrive. I have a pair of Satio 1.80's (Inverted) but they keep dying at low idle. My plane came out to 26 pounds.

tahustvedt 05-06-2016 02:02 AM

The specs are:

10,6 kg (23,4 lbs)
TGY AerodriveXp 42 SK Series 42-50 650Kv motors
3:1 belt reduction drive
CNC-milled custom props
6S 10000 mAh lipo

All the wheels and tires are 3D Printed. The nose gear is mostly 3D Printed and all legs have 3D Printed scale legs that slip over the sprung struts. The dummy engines and reduction boxes are 3D Printd as well. Nylon Taulman 910 is used where strength is neded. PLA otherwise.

I balanced mine at exactly 117 mm with the gear up, and found it a little pitch sensitive with the gear up, but perfect with the gear down. You can see the pitch sensitiveness as it porpooises when I come on for the low pass. I will move the battery forward a little before the next flight.

frisconick 05-06-2016 05:46 AM

Hi Gents,

I have a set of Sierra Giant landing gear for the Tigercat along with brakes, wheels and tires. Nose gear has a bent frame from a "rough" landing a couple seasons ago. I can make you a very good deal on the set. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send pics.
Thanks,
Nick

Some shots of mine taken after the maiden. I changed the angle of the nose leg as it had way too much forward rake in the stock setup. It was also too short to be scale.

I made a pitot tube and some air exits on the wings. The pitot tube is a friction fit in the wing and is removeable.

I made the last piece from aluminum as it also broke, later, on the third flight. I keep messing up the landings.

Added silver screw head spots and some wing tip lights (non functional).

Any other people here with Tigercat activity? The thread has been dead for a while.
