Electric Hydrofoil project
Currently involved in a custom-designed electric hydrofoil I'm working on the propulsion system for it, and I have been lurking these forums to teach myself what components I need and how it all comes together. I have the parts picked out, and I would like to see if there are any red flags with what I've chosen. We are looking for a run time of about 15 minutes, and a top speed of about 15 mph. Heres what I have so far
Motor:
SSS 5694 1000 kv 6 pole brushless motor
OR
SSS 56104 500 kv 6 pole brushless motor (less amps drawn)
Battery:
2x Zippymax 4s1p 8000mAh at 30C (in parallel)
Propeller:
4 blade, diameter of 6-8 in (roughly)
ESC:
Turnigy aquastar 160A waterproof controller
UBEC:
12V 4.5A 2-5S LiPoly
DEBATING on adding a gearhead (5:1?) to increase torque, but I cannot tell if our RPMs can take a hit like that. Any thoughts or areas of improvement?
I have no experience AT ALL in this field, so any words of wisdom will be appreciated.
