lift fans vtol x-35b
Just wondering if anyone has considered building a lifting fan specifically for an X-35b model jet or likewise. Because having been interested in building a model of it and also studying fluid flow at University. It is not how fast the airflow is exiting the ducted fan, but how much, static thrust being what we require, because the aircraft is hovering not trying to go as fast as we can make them go as in normal ducted fan models. So if you increased the diameter of the fan so you could move the same amount air but for a lower rpm of the main fan, you could even incorporate a contra rotating fan to reduce the torque in the hover. I was thinking of using a heli engine that would run permanently with the use of a clutch that would engage the fan once transition to the hover was begun. YOu could even use a wren 54 turboprop engine to give even better thrust in the future because it already has the gearing. However I'm not too sure how this could be done as I haven't done the maths to work out how much thrust you could get from a fan 12 inch across spinning at the required rpm. Does anybody know if this has been tried or if it will even work. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!. I know a 5 inch ducted fan with a .91 OS motor produces 12lbs static thrust at 154 mph airflow exit speed, I was wondering if this speed could be reduced and an increase in static flow obtained.

i would guess the same way you do with props, more diameter less pitch.
theres a x35 being built here in the UK, you can see more on ezone, but i've heard nothing for a long time
