Default My Highschool project... sorry not savage related

i know this isnt savage related but it's atleast rc related. this is the main chassis for our robotic skid loader. my friend and i split the work... he did the welding and most metalwork and i did the wiring. now it weighs about 8.1 lbs and runs about 3-4 mph without an arm and a bucket yet, plus two electric actuators. this thing will carry around 20 lbs no problem and can push/pull more with good traction. the tank drive is powered by two geared motors and timing belts and pulleys. i'd say it's around a 1/10 or 1/9 scale

1/10 or 1/9 scale of what? Is there a 1:1 version of that thing? hee-hee.

Seriously, pretty cool. Carry on.

Seeing that reminds me of that Robot Wars T.V. series on Comedy Central. Are you planning on using it as a fighter-bot or for other stuff?

I'm with him, armor-plate it and throw on an axe!

tell me about it! swing a hammer at 10,000 rpm and it's a BattleBot!!!

sadly no it wont be a fighting robot. the competition it's in requires you to transport 15 kids toys in to a collection bin and a tippy cup on top of the start box. they grade you based on time and if you can get the tippy cup on the start box, spout up, for 20 bonus points. we decided to go for speed and collect as many of the other toys as fast as we can and hopefully the time difference will balance out the loss for the tippy cup bonus. if any of tihs makes sense...

yet to come is a 3x12x6" bucket along with an arm and two small electric actuators to serve as cylinders. i will try to post our SolidWorks assembly of the whole thing and it will make more sense.

Sounds interesting. I still think it would look cooler with a power saw attached to it by a arm.

well it's done... FINALLY! after a butt-load of aluminum work, it pulled through. it can lift about 7.5 pounds with the sharp leverage. had a few radio glitches, but that will be solved soon with 2 spektrum radios. CHA CHING! hopefully soon i can get a video clip of it doing what it does best.
