Tricopter design and testing
Thought I would post a project I have worked on for about a year.
Uses a 360 degree camera mount built into the tricopter with collective pitch and the ability to auto rotate if needed. The unit does use an auto pilot to keep it level and stable at all times. Flight tests are finished for hovering and slow forward flight we are now moving into wind and performance testing.
The Tricopter can carry up to a 2 1/2 lb camera with 180 degrees tilt and non stop 360 degree panning. Roll is shock dampened.

Does the odd one counter rotate? Wondering how rudder works but am slowly figuring it out.....I think. Would like to see it in a test on vid when you get it up. Looks like a fun project for sure. Will be watching for updates.

I saw something quite similar to that in a Popular Science Mag, also there is a company up here in Canada not too far from where I live that has been designing very similar things for the past 10 years. Here is a link http://www.draganfly.com/

More to come in the next week or so. We have changed a couple things to get the unit to fly hands off which it's now doing.
Yes I know the guys at Draganfly and the product. We actually had the company that builds blades for them look at doing something on this machine. The problem is the product they sell costs $15,000 with a payload of 1 lb. The blades they use flutter if you exceed 24oz per blade set. Plus we want a lower price point.
We are shooting for a camera mount with all options plus a camera payload of 2 1/2 lbs.

How many gyros does it take to hold that rig stable? There must be some incredible amounts of calculation going on electronically to hole the platform level. I'd love to know more.
