Art attack snowmobile pointers?
I should be receiving 2 of these very shortly and was wondering if there is anything I should know before building? I have built several cars, trucks, planes and boats but no snowmobiles yet. Anything other than what is in the instructions that you know would help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Kevin

RE: Art attack snowmobile pointers?
Im sure someone has, somewhere. They don`t seem to be as popular, isn`t there a thread for this sled ?
I would say do it as the manual says, there are tips for this thing around somewhere.
I haven`t got around to buying one yet, some day.

I was told today by the lhs owner that these sleds are too heavy and the tracks aren't long or wide enough. Is this true? I'm still waiting for the sled to arrive. BTW Jordan I will take from my collection (whatever you want) and give it to you so you won't feel so bad about losing one of those beauties. Hmmmmm.need anything? I've got very nice things in my collection I should update my gallery soon.......

ive read reviews on www.nitroreview.com or something like that.
and one person had the steering fall apart twice until he redesigned it and had to put some weg
ights under the seat to improve traction

RE: Art attack snowmobile pointers?
i have an artattack. it´s nice, but you have to do lots of moddings till its runnin fine.
especially the suspension in the rear needs real shocks, that the sled isn´t jumping around.
out of the box you won´t be satisfied, no traction on snow or ice, it´s just like a toy for kids.
but with some hop ups it can make fun...
note: it costs more than 500bucks, if you want an artattack going fine in areas witch ist was thougt for.
here are some pics of mine, now its running nice, but still not as good as i thougt...

RE: Art attack snowmobile pointers?
the problem is cause of the double y-axles...
the track (belt) is allways in contact to the ground with just one point,
at the front or in the rear.
so its just like it has only a wheel in the rear, in fact of this, the belt isn´t working like it should.
there is an rear-suspension available, but it costs about 140 bucks
and i think, the parts of it are not wort the money, you pay only for the idea.
without the shocks i would pay not more than 30.00usd...
(the image is from www.colashobbies.com , there you will find several spare parts and hop ups for the sled.)
with this conversion the track would be allways in full contact with the ground,
but as i told, i would never buy.
so i look forward to make the single t-axle from aluminum
and try to get a stiffer backsuspension than with the plastic solution.

All I did with mine was to remove the front Y piece and remove the front red parts of the skids that are infront of the bearings and presto full function suspension. now you have to tweak the tension and I had to put a zip tie from the rear support to the red skids to stop it from over extending and actually going too far forward. I'll get som pics and explain it a bit better. soon

RE: Art attack snowmobile pointers?
first, here is also a place to talk about the artattack snowmobile [link=http://groups.yahoo.com/group/artattacksnowmobiles/]artattacksnowmobiles[/link],
here are some detailshots of my actual rear suspension :
i just snapped a pipe into the y-arm (the nylon straps are just holding it in position)
and monted the shocks there, i didn´t loose them any time.
in the back you can see the little springs which are holding the track in position,
so be belt isn´t flipping over the idlers any more.

I sealed the front holes on the hood,The holes under the motor mount area and added a sponge near the steering linkage to help keep the snow out.
The sponge on mine looks weird from the color but I can change that later with paint or a darker sponge.

RE: Art attack snowmobile pointers?
Do you have the battery or nitro version?
I use a Hitec FM radio system in my brushless versions with 6-8 cell packs for the brushless motor.

RE: Art attack snowmobile pointers?
here we go,
so i made up my mind a little and went into the kitchen...
for the rear suspension i took just an u- profile fom aluminum, drilled the holes for the axles,
glued them, the rest you can see on the following pictuers.
but i don´t really like the way the shocks are working now,
i think i have to move the shock position a little bit to the rear and higher.
the next days i will see how its working.

Is anyone else having problems with the grey plastic tunnel and it being so brittle? My morot mount plate has totally broken off and I see there are stress cracks forming where the seat bolts to the tunnel. I think I will have to make a new one out of aluminum.

RE: Art attack snowmobile pointers?
looks good. The angle of the shock may be what is giving you that feeling. I'm going to try it also but may be a week or so before I get around to it. Thanks for the pics. Where did you get the cowl? It is very nice looking.

RE: Art attack snowmobile pointers?
i have 2 art attack snowmobiles. I have my brushless one that is the only one I use. my nitro one needs a few parts to get working but it ran back when i first got it then stored it in my basement. My electric brushless sled is all I need for enjoyment. I got out of nitro RC because of the time it requires to get a good tune. I am probably going to sell this nitro sled I have because I dont have time for nitro anymore and We dont get enough snow for me to be able to use it. if anyones interested in it just pm me. Later. It also has the new rear suspension installed in it.
