Improved mods for MXZ

Ok I know a lot of people have waited patiently for this
First lets give the link to the pics.

http://s229.beta.photobucket.com/use...roved-mxz-mods

Now for some detail as to what I have done.
First the new center link for the front control arms is now a single piece this makes it much easier to install because it fits the contour of the sled and also
no more nuts and washer's to fiddle with, you just slide it up into place then bolt it in there is only 2 bolts needED to hold it in solid.
Now for the new rear suspension, this has the bearings in the side arms this way the axle's are a solid piece this makes them much stronger.
never had any problems with the old style but just wanted to improve things a little.
Now the new shock mount is one of the best mods I think I have done this is because now you get over 1 1/4 of suspension adjustment this will really help
All you have to do is turn the bar the mount is on and the suspension will moves up or down. :)
if you want to use it for speed or deep snow I like the speed better :)
The new mounts for the top of the shock are also one solid piece for the front too this way again no nuts and washer's to fiddle with
just bolt it to the shock and mount it where you want.
this will depend on what size shock's you use I use 100mm 1/10 scale I find they work best.
The front steering knuckle has the shock mount made into it again just more ways to make things easier for install.
The steering arms are also longer to give more steering ability and hey they look good this way too LOL.
Oh yes one last thing there is also bearings in the side arms of the rear suspension for the main pivot point.
and the top pivot point has a bolt right through the center and the 2 piece's are bolted together this way again for more strength.
as I put the next one together if there is anything I have forgot I will add and also add more pics.
If you would like to know anything else about the kits please P.M me

Thanks Again
Hurricane

RE: Improved mods for MXZ

Hurricane,
Very excited about these. Can't wait.I plan on running more in thepowder than speed runs. So, a few questions:
1. 100 mm shocks?? Is that all the way around or just front or back.
2. Do I need to stud the tracks?
3. Is a Velineon system enough power or do I need 1/8 scale. Obviously this is subjective but like I said it's more for motoing in deeper snow than speed runs on the street.
4. Do the tracks hold up or will I be needing parts sleds for future.

Thanks
Nathan

RE: Improved mods for MXZ

Nathan

sorry for late reply been so busy at work putting in 16 hour days
1. 100mm shocks are from center to center both front and back I use the old springs from the newbright sled they work better for the weight and stiffer.
2. I stud the track with finishing nails works great sparks when you hit pavement.
3. Have to watch what motor you use cause it needs lots of low-end power for turning the track, and it's always cool to watch people's reaction when you start pulling wheelies.
4. I think the tracks are the best out of all the other types of sleds I have built mine is now over 4 years old and running a lot of speed and still going strong.

On another note my motor mounts are for 36 mm motors I use 36-74 2300 KV on a 4 cell lipo and man it makes it fly.
But it will also depend on how fast you want it to go then gear for it I use a 68 for the main shaft and a 58 for the idler gear and I use a 18 pinion I had it worked out before
but i think my track is spinning around 9000 rpm and all has stayed together and keeps taking it.

if there is anything else please let me know.

RE: Improved mods for MXZ

Hurricane can you use the same motor mount that comes with your kit to mount a nitro motor on?

Thanks
Dennis(sportypilot)

RE: Improved mods for MXZ

Dennis

yes you can it just has to be put on the other side and cut the part off that is used for the brushless motor.
here is a link to show what I have made for nitro motor's
http://s229.beta.photobucket.com/use...XZ%20RC%20sled

Also anyone that has ordered kits from me I made sure they are guarantied delivery for this Friday or Monday coming but not sure on the holiday's.
So if you do not receive it by then please let me know.
Sorry for the time it took to get them all out but had a really hard time with getting parts, when ordered they said were in stock then failed to tell me after that
more then half of the parts are now back-order.
So I went to other supplier's to get what I needed.
Again really sorry guys.

Well boys I have finally had some spare time to play.
So I have put yet another sled together that is going up on ebay.
but thought you might like to see some better pics of the kit fully installed and set-up to run.
Just got back from testing I almost forgot just how fast these things go, and wheelie's on demand.
here is a link for the pics.

http://s229.beta.photobucket.com/use...ary/MXZ%202013

Also here is a link for using the templates for drilling the holes for mounting.
All the holes size's are what you need to drill for the new kit.

Let me know what you think and please when you get your sleds done send pics.

Thanks

RE: Improved mods for MXZ

Just a little update I have removed the PICO.21 and put a brand new traxxas 3.3 with electric start in :)
All I have left is just to use a few zip tie's, run the wires for the starter and put the handlebars back on and she is ready to go :)
I think the electric start will make things a lot easier.
what you guys think ???

RE: Improved mods for MXZ

Hurricane,
Do you have any pics on how you do the batteries for the brushless? Did you say that you put the newbright springs on Traxxas shocks?
Thanks
Nathan

hurricane-fibers 01-03-2013 01:08 AM

RE: Improved mods for MXZ

Yes I use the springs from the sled on the traxxas shocks.
As for the lipo first I wrap it in a soft cloth lipo's work better when they are room temp.
then I remove the holder for the factory battery and the tray then the circuit board the seat is just the
right size to hold the a 4 cell lipo.
will get some pictures for you if you need them.

RE: Improved mods for MXZ

Hurricane,

Pics of battery set up would help. I'm trying to figure out whether the battery goes over the hole for the circuit board or we get a more square size battery to go down in the circuit board hole.
Thanks
Nathan

RE: Improved mods for MXZ

Hope this helps for how I put a lipo 4 cell in.
first I always wrap the lipo they work better when warm and it helps to protect them.
this is a 4 cell 5000mah the seat holds it in really well I have never had any problems this way.
In the last pic the seat is closed and you can see the wire's from the lipo.

Just got my two kits in the mail. It's Christmas, all over, again!! I am amazed at all of the work & detail in these kits. Very impressive. Thanks Hurricane. My biggest problem now is how I get work done with these staring me in the face.

Hurricane,
First sled is going together easy.Great engineering. Hot poker is working for hard to get to holes. Where do the little black plastic splined things go?
Thanks

Hurricane, I sent you some pm's, i dont know if you received them, I'm new to this but i would like to buy some new bright upgrades from you. If you did get my pm's, I'm sorry to bother you.
I almost got my sled running, I got a few test runs inon it, it ran pretty good, but my idler gear keeps messing up. I just built one out of bearings and washers and its not really any good. PM me or you can email me..

thanks, Bucky

I'm having fun building the sleds. It makes me feel like a big time fabricator but really I'm just painting by numbers.
