RC Snowmobile Arctic Cat

I have tuned a toy Arctic Cat Crossfire F7 to a Brushless engine racer. I have changed the whole package: engine, steering, transmission and the track assembly. You can find a story about tuning from:

This project is an inspiration! nicely doneI have the exact same toy and have started modifying it. Your track building makes me want to be not so lazy in leaving mine stock!

Thanks for comments! Modificated track makes the sled thousand times better to drive! =)

RE: RC Snowmobile Arctic Cat

yeah the skid and drive systems of that sled, and even most others are a huge weaklink into getting power to the snow.
as ive learned with the art attack...

hey, i got the arctic cat m7 model thats all modded. has all the hobby grade electronics for more power/torque, but it doesnt have much top speed cause of the stock gearing. do you got any ideas to get more top speed out of it??

ohh yea by the way nicee work on ur rc sled =)

thanks.</p>

Very nice sled jazzka and welcome to RCU forums.

I have seen your sled before you should put up some more pics i've seen them and i think they could help others here.Have you run it yet?I don't know how the weather is your way at the moment but here in new england we are just begining winter some snow is comming in a couple days i hope.We do have a small amount on the ground but not enough.
Do you plan to stick with the two shocks? How is the belt and pulley holding up?My track has developed some small cracks at the edges has yours done that yet?Let's see some more detail pics.

z400riderr: I'd try either faster engine (is it electric?), maybe some10 or 12 turn engine, or then there is always possibility to make youown transmission. I recommend one with belt.

ridgewalker: I'm expecting the winter in 4-5 days now - according to forecast. There is lot of pictures and details in my webpage and I think foranybody needing ideas it's worth to visit there. My belt has donegreat. I still have the first belt there, and it's going still strong. Also the track is in good shape.

I'm doing a new driver for mysled right now. This new one will turn the handlebar and he has morerealistic helmet and face. I hope I'll get it ready before the snow.I'm also doing modification for the front suspension. Old skis but new and more realistic looking suspension arms.

I also bought another used Crossfire for spareparts. =)

ridgewalker: What do you mean "do I have plan to stick with the two shocks?" Do you mean those with orange springs? if so, the answer is yes, these are doing a great job and the suspension is working really good. =)

RE: RC Snowmobile Arctic Cat

hey ridgewalker, i was looking at mold supplies today and ran into some loctite belt repair stuff, this may work for your belt pretty good.
http://www.rshughes.com/catalog/118500.html
i didnt even know this existed, you may not want to order that exact stuff but it should give you some hope on what to look for, i would imagen even like napa auto parts or a good hardware store should carry this stuff in smaller amounts.
hope that helps

Theres's a new driver in the town and he knows how to turn the handlebar. Lower body is the original, but everything above hips are new. The torso and the arms has made of polyurethane sprayed foam connected with steelwire and the suit is self made. The head is some action figure head. I found the Helmet from Ebay.

jazzka

Saw you video's on Youtube............AWSOM

I started building my first snowmobile last year.

Here is a link to my New Bright Nitro conversion.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_94...tm.htm#9407071

I love what you did with the rider - what attention to detail. I also loved the modified rear suspension. I need to do something like that to my sled. Can you provide any more detail on how you did some of this? Such as how did you layout the metal work for that suspension?

One other question, your video is sooo cool and I would like to know whay sofware you are using to create your YouTube videos. I am hoping to post some video as soon as we I get some snow.

RE: RC Snowmobile Arctic Cat

Thanks for the comments for all!

TechyJoe, did you visit my webpage? There's also more detailed pictures about the driver.

My engineering methods are "learning by doing" and "think, draw, do, test and do it again". :)I did something and then I did it in other way. Basically first I had to solve the mystery of progressive and unwanted deg-/regressive suspension. Then I noticed that if the angle of the shock and the arm decreases, it's regressive and if the angle grows, it's progressive -and from this base I started to plan the track suspension. I studied 1:1 track suspensions and tried to figure out, why the things are like they are. Metal work came with the supplies I had. I did the metal work with band saw, small angle grinder and files.

I used Sony Vegas to edit this video, but this kind of editing is easy to do with any edit software, even with MS moviemaker. Althought not all editing softwares can't do good slow motion.

I think the the New Bright Ski-Doo is very good platform for modifications. It's bigger and there's a lot more space inside. It will be also in a way "lighter" compeared to the size of the skis and track - if you can spot what I mean.

i see these new bright sled on e-bay for 150 plus is this what you guys are paying for them or are you finding them cheaper some where else ?

RE: RC Snowmobile Arctic Cat

thats a bit much. when they were in the store they were $100

nickyszoe 01-27-2010 07:21 PM

RE: RC Snowmobile Arctic Cat

i remember a few years back you could get the ski-doo for 59.00 dollars at wal-mart . now i see them for 150 plus and that is crazy for something that goes 5 mph and won't go in the snow out of the box . i've been play around with the artattack and was going to see what i could do with one of those ski-doo's . but i think i will just stay back and watch what you guy come up with . you guy's are doing it man i hope the RC manufacturer are watching !! you see more and more video's on you tube .

I have one and building it now.
. Anyone use the stock transfer.... and I put a stock 5 40 in mine and I hope it will be faster

jazzka 11-12-2010 04:21 AM

RE: RC Snowmobile Arctic Cat

I used first the stock transfer, but powerful new engine ate plastic teeth quite quickly.

Will it. Hold up a stock 5 40 motor
