Value Hobby 1400mm X-UAV Sky Surfer

4 Attachment(s)
I couldnt resist purchasing the Value Hobby 1400mm X-UAV Sky Surfer. Here's my review as I build. The price war right on this one... $39.00. This is my second plane from Value Hobby and I am very satisfied. It only took a few days for my box to arrive and when it did, it was undamaged and no parts were missing. The instruction sheet may be slightly outdated, but it was a no brainer filling in the gaps.

The wing....

8 Attachment(s)
I dry fitted the servos and ran the wires inside the groove on the underside. I had to nibble out a little bit of foam so that the extension connectors fit flush with the wing bottom. I used 12 inch extensions with positive locks. They should stay connected when I accidently crash. After dryfitting everything, I tacked the servos and wires in place securely with hot melt then covered the exposed wires and servos with some white plastic tape. The servos were then centered and arms installed. Next, the control horns were installed with hot melt. Linkage was then installed. Lock tite thread locker is used to keep the hardware from vibrating loose.
The linkage wire is very thin and it does flex a little. Ill fly it like this and determine if an upgrade is on order.

The Fuse....

After locating the ply inner fuse wing support, it was dryfitted and sanded to make for a perfect fit. The support was tacked in place with hot melt as well as the rudder and stab servos. (the entire plane uses 9gr servos). The servos mount to a ply mounting plate with the provided screws. After the hot melt set up, I used Gorilla Glue to join the ply pieces to the foam fuse halves. I did not realize that the glue foams as it cures... looks messy but it cured strong. The control horns were glued to the stab and rudder also. I didnt like the taped in place canopy magnets so I glued them in place also.

The dry fit

6 Attachment(s)
After the glue set up for 24 hours, the plane was dry fit together. at this point, I am in a holding pattern until the motor arrives. It shipped and should be here this week. Ill have to make up motor extension leads and it will be easier to run them through the fuse before i glue the halves together. Ill get a list of the electronic components used later on.
