Dafx, the back rod that holds the tail up is glued in. CA un-bonder and time will get it out. Some break it off and drill out the 2mm rod.

EDITED: Unless of course you are trying to mount superskids, then follow GTX's instructions. He is the undisputed expert on the Super-Skids. :>

You want to keep that rod there. Don't remove it. The new fin you have will not support the tail.
You should cut your new fin to look like this picture, then tape the bottom to the rod. If you don't do this, your fin may rotate around the tail boom and get caught in the tail blade.

LOL. Did you see the video about it on youtube? It's gone now, or at least I can't find it anymore. The pilot was a beginner flying outdoors. He bounced the heli off the grass a couple times and finally got it airborne for a couple seconds, then landed it. On his next take-off, the heli was a couple feet up when the tail rotor caught the fin. Looked like the tail blade broke and a piece went flying by the camera man. You could see the camera dart to one side and he said something I can't repeat here.
If anyone can find this video again, I'd really like to have the link. I'm pretty sure it was youtube, but not certain. There are so many of those sites now. It was a FP heli, I think either a DF4 or HB FP, and the title also said superskids, but they weren't SuperSkids. In the (sort of) close-up, you could see the circle instead of a V in the rear mount, despite the rather low quality of the video. The pilot looked Asian, but the cameraman knew at least one word in English.

ok I will let the rod there The fin is not the same as the carbonfiber you got there but same idea. I have afraid that the fin of the extreme skid are going to twist and damage tail blade so I use a little tiewrap and wraped to the rod on the bottom part.

Good job. Now you won't have problems there.
Is it possible for you to take a picture of the how the struts (wire that goes from the wing to the landing gear) are screwed into the landing gear?

Quick question regarding my rotor head / blade holder .........

I just bought a DF4, seems in very good condition, the top of the rotor head had sheared off and the blade holder was missing, quick trip to local model shop sorted that though.
Have reassembled it all (correctly I think) with new bearings and blade holder etc, are the main blades supposed to be a bit "stiff" to rock across the top of the rotor head? I can't see anything I've done wrong, it looks the same as all the pics I've looked at, you put the bearings on either side of the rotor head, using the little screws, then simply snap the blade holder on top of that?

Thanks in advance for any help!

The earlier versions had screws that held the bearings in. Now that you have replaced the head, it may be newer and not have room for the screws that retain the bearings. I run my heads without the screws. A little more risk when you shear the head off, but more often than not, the bearings remain in-place.

Try removing the screws and see if the head moves more freely.

I think it's assembled right. Sometimes the dogbone links fit too tight and the head doesn't move freely

Michael, the new ones don't have screws? That's good to know. The old ones didn't, then the new ones did, and I guess now the newest ones don't again.

You gotta admit Gary is a stand up guy for helping people with products that aren't Super-Skids.

Generally you have to trim the canopy to fit a little.

No. I meant the back. There are 2 struts that go from the wing to the landing gear. I wanted to see how they're both attached to the landing gear.

Here's the SuperSkids manual. It should help you with the canopy mount. It's in pdf format, so you'll need Adobe reader to view it. Adobe reader is free.

The ESC has 3 sets of wires.

1) RED/BLACK. Large thick wires = Battery
2) 3 Wires (can be various colors) = Motor
3) 3 small wires with plastic end. Ch3 (or whatever your throttle channel is).

If the motor runs in reverse, switch any of the 2 MOTOR wires. that will make it run the other way. Or if you have a programmable ESC, then change it in that setup.

Those instructions were for a standard heli, not a 4&1 heli, like the #4. Sorry, I just replied with stock ESC answer instead of seeing that I was in the #4 forum.

It is not possible to hook the Brushless ESC directly to the stock 4&1.

You need a product like this:
http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product...roducts_id=386

or this:

http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product...roducts_id=423

Sorry for the confusion the first time around. PM me for more detailed instructions or whatever you need.

Michael

both are good. They allow you to use the stock 4&1 and use the PWM output of the 4&1 to drive an ESC.

No. I meant the back. There are 2 struts that go from the wing to the landing gear. I wanted to see how they're both attached to the landing gear.

it goes in the back on sides of wing holder, the little part that hold wing have two holes in the side ose the non bend end of the rod. the other end the bended one goes in the same screw that holds the back riangle with the circle to the skid legs.

I having a drifting problem it goes in circles counterclock and backward direccion. I have to make about 20 circles around me untill I get a hover and only for 2 or 3 seconds then drifting again. my only good experience is with CX2 so I a new flyer on tail rotor helis. I understand fisics and how heli acts. but i am learning how to react. it will posibble to get hover with hands out on this heli with correct settings and trim. any advice on how to get the easy way to fly this thing.

You can move the swash control rods to a hole closer in on the servo arm. It will slow response down (good for a beginner)
