NICE DF 4 GTX!! I like it, it's a nice yellow color, and it just looks good.

I hope to get a Video of my 36 in action, heh, GTX was flying pretty good, in ground effect, but, wait til you hear mine scream! that thing can hover in an 2x2x2 box (blades and all) with no problem, maybe I'll show off and try head in for the first time... or go to 50 feet for the first time... oh, and maybe if it gets windy I can show that this thing works great in wind (I've got a windmill for effect)

I have just taken my first video for my 36# and I would like to share with all of you here.

This is just my first time hovering and I'm still learning. The outdoor is a bit windy and so the later part is indoor.

And here is the video for my Lama.

SnackEater,

Great videos! In the indoor part it looks like the #36 has a bit of a problem holding the direction and wandering off clockwise. I have the same issue and ordered the GY240.

Yes, it didn't happen at the beginning. I think that's why everyone has replaced the gyro. I am finding an affordable one to replace it. I prefer head-hold model but Futaba 401 is way too expensive.

NOt bad for your first time hovering! I hovered my 36 today for the second time and you're ahead of me. I need a lot more room than that to keep it steady! I just received the ny gy240 and it is much better than teh stock unit. All tail control issues vanished.

Nice photos! I've also just got a new gyro yesterday. I have chosen Telebee gyro which is almost half the price of GY240 with HH mode. I have setup it briefly but have no chance to test. I will take more video in this saturday if the weather is good.

How do you get your canopy on with the battery down there, or do you even use it? Sweet landing skid by the way!

I also planned to try putting the battery there to lower the CG. I think it may improve hovering stability.

For the video, I took them with Panasonic LX1 and then convert the motion jpeg files to wmv using TMPGenc 3.0 Express.

Here are the photos of mine. Nothing special in fact.

I noticed in your video the light on your gyro was flashing...If you fix that problem your Walkera gyro might work just fine. It may just be a damaged wire. The same thing happened to mine but as long as the light don't flash it works just fine.

[hint] perhaps why mine flies so good is because the battery is located so low![/hint]

oh, looking at my heli from the closeup side picture, notice that that piece of frame is missing.... oops...

thanks for the compiments on the skids! if you want yours to be more effective and work better, flip the rear one around, the skid bar will still reach. oh, and though the skids look great and "getto" the sharp ends have a slight tendancy to stick into the ground, too bad my huge training gear snapped in the middle piece that used to hold the carbon rods together.

I also noticed the gyro light flash but I think it is related to the video only. It shouldn't flash as the servo was not reaching its limit I'm sure. I've replaced it with a Telebee gyro anyway.

snackeater, have you set up your new gyro yet? Where are you setting the gain?

I hope snackeater will post a new video using the Telebee gyro. I'm curious to see how well it does...

Default RE: W36 hover video

I have just come back from my flight with Telebee gyro. At the beginning, I had trouble on eliminating the tail wag. No matter what gain position I set, the tail still wag. Then I tried to reduce the head speed by increasing the main blade pitch and then it is like another chopper. It was very stable! I have taken a video of 13mins of hovering and I'm now converting it.

I found that pinion gear of 15T was way too large but I cannot find a 11T yet. The motor gets extremely hot after a flight. I think reducing the head speed by pitch adjustment reduces efficiency of the motor also. That may be the reason of relative short flight time (13mins) by 2200mAh battery.

For the gyro gain position, it is now in 5 o'clock.

I will post the video as soon as the convertion is completed. Stay tuned.

thanks snackeater, as I understand this is the same gyro that Align uses with the Trex. after messing with mine for a while I finally unlocked number 8 and adjusted the pzt. What a difference! The problem with my gyro was it was supersensitive unitl I adjusted the pzt but was fine with the stock Walkera gyro (when it worked)

thankfully, I don't have tail wag, my tail stays still pretty well, especally while on the computer! I do still use the walkera gyro for dampening, and it works great, it does have a bit of "sticky" responce, but, you get used to it.

SnackEater, you may be right about that 15T pinion but remember, even with the proper size pinion your brushless motor is going to generate a tremendous amount of heat (especially when you increase the pitch) when ran without a heat sink. Personally, as hot as they tend to get under normal conditions I don't think they should sell them without one...

You are right. A heat sink is also on my shopping list but I cannot find a suitable one.

The video is ready.
