RE: walkera 22D
Hi,
Walkera helicopters are known to have low quality electronics, so I wouldn't recommend for you to get it.
I suggest you get the Honey Bee King 2. It's a stable helicopter, it has a Lipo Battery, and it has a belt-driven tail.
You can get it for $150 at JagHobbies: http://www.jaghobbies.com/rc_planes/ek1h-e016a.htm

RE: walkera 22D
I had a Walkera 22D that I had bought from Midwest RC Sales here in Minnestoa. I only made a couple of descent flights with it before it met with a tree and then the ground[:@]. One of the things that kept breaking on it was the tail drive shaft and the gears would strip out as well, not to mention that the tail rotor shaft would bend real easy if the tail rotor got hit or hit anything. I would suggest getting a 22E or an Axe CP because both of these are built a lot stronger just depends on how much money you want to spend.

That's a matter of opinion but I disagree. I've had a hb and it broke almost every time it crashed where the 22D seems to be a lot tougher (so far). I've crashed it a few times and nothing has broke yet.

The HBK II is a CCPM, do you think a beginner can handel that?
I have been flying FMS for a few weeks (Blade CP) and I feel somewhat comfortable.
I can't put the d#@n thing down prob. got 30 hr. in 10 days, and I've gone to work every day.(lol)

RE: walkera 22D
I talked to some pro-look-alike flyer who did alot of stunts. When he heard I bought a couple of 22d's (the more you buy the more you save type of buy) he said: "The 22d is hard to fly for a beginner. It tips forward real easy. Better to use a heli with 3 rotors, and you are up and away in 10 minutes".
But since I would rather do alot of sim-work than fly the real thing in a hurry and crash it sooner than later: I don't mind if it is harder to begin with. Or maybe I will get the heli with 3 rotors for starters.
So long.

3 rotors? I'm a total noob to single rotor helis and I was hovering my 22D the first day so I would have to disagree that they are hard to fly. I havn't noticed mine wanting to tip down at all, maybe the he flew was not set up right?

RE: walkera 22D
Thanks raz54. That makes me feel alot better. I'm so scared of flying for the first time & ending up immediately with a repairable item that i vowed to do due diligence on a simulator. Maybe that's a good thing.
I have the second 22d heli reserved for my brother-in-law. So, I'm happy to hear the 22d is not a total flop.
Possibly you also have good experience already, or done your sim time.

RE: walkera 22D
No sim here, just real flight but I am taking it nice and slow though. I did toss the training gear right away as it made the heli very unstable. I accidentally closed my cars trunk lid on the tail section the other day and that didn't even break anything so I'm very impressed so far with how tough it is.
