Default Discouraging problems! :(

Hey all

Wel I just got a Walkera 5 #10 what a beautiful machine, I got spare blades, two motors, 2 canopies, it has super skids installed, but there is only one thing I am not happy about. I have 3 batteries, all are at 4.2 V when fully charged, but I seem to not be gettign more then 5-6 min, and after 2-3 min or so the heli will not fly above 6 inches or so at full throttle! I am bummed!

Whats the deal?
How do I know if the motors may be the cause?
How do I get the mesh right?

What are the 2 adjustments on the receiver? Where should they be located at?

I have also noticed a few times when you start to spool up the heli throttle at oh... 1/4 throttle ot so the top blades will stop spinning, have to throttle back down, and will do the same thing. What woudl cause this?

Thanks all this is my first heli and I do not want to get tunred away because of problems.

Thanks

George

Problems are bringing the heli experience to a screeching hault!

I have never crashed it, everything seems in great shape. I was not able to get more then a 6 inches off the floor after about 3 min. so I told to try new motors. I had two new motors so I swapped them out. got gear mesh fine I think, it is not tight, but it is not loose. Now I can't get more then 6 inches off the floor for more then 2 secs, and then i barely has enough lift to keep itself off the ground!

Motors seem to have plenty of power, Batteries are all good.
Next thing I am going to try is putting back in the other motors and see what happens.

I am so unhappy and discoruaged!! I do nto know what to so.

i have also heard I shoudl replace the maine gears??? Mine seem fine though

What size lipos are they 1 cell?

You should be getting around 6 minute flight times with a battery

way to check your gear mesh is to set it where, you can slide a piece of paper inbetween the gears, and rotate them and not having the paper rip, you want you gear mesh as loose as possible without the teeth skipping over each other.

It could be the motors, but you said you already put new ones in

another thing is it could be a bearing in the main shaft siezing up or getting stuck causing the motors to work more, and making the battery running dead faster

do the motors get really hot after each flight?

yup they are 3.7V 1000mah batteries

Well I will check the mess again.

I have not noticed the motors being real hot after a run.

I can not get a run in because the thing has all it can do to keep it self off the ground!

How do I check the bearing idea? How woudl I know if it is bad?

How about a bigger battery for longer flight times?

Any help and idea;s will be great I want to fly this thing!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

George

it is what it is straight out the box.theres no room for bigger battery, the esc cant handle a bigger battery.and beyond putting 50 to 60 more dollars in mod to me its not worth it.im personally sending mine back.it just not worth the extra money or trouble.dont get me wrong it flies good for maybe 5 minutes.then you have a 2 hour recharge time.what a waste of money

Also,

Well I put the two original motors back in and it flew normal height for like 30 seconds, then dropped to 6 inches or so above the floor,
which really bugs me.

I spun up the two supposed new motors (took them out of the heli), they seemed absolutly fine, and seemed to spin the same speed.

Should I adjust the "sensitive" screw on the receiver? What will that do for me?

Is there any special way to try and tell if the motors are spinning the same speed, or just eye ball it?

Does the bottom or the top motor do the lifting of the heli?

Thanks everyone.

bad400, 5 minutes is all your going to get out of a battery that size, on most heliopters 5-6 minutes of flying time is normal

i have 6 other heli`s,this one is the lowest flight time i have.honestly i have gotton up 25 to 30 minute flights out of every thing else i have.no matter how i fly the 5#10,5 minutes is max time in air.the battery tray is disigned for such a small battery.i tried a bigger battery and burnt out the receiver.its just not worth haveing for a 5 minute flight time and a 2 hour recharge time.
and gagallagher you can buy this hole heli with extra reciever for 80 bucks

bad400 I do not want the whole thing because of the flight time issue.

But If you have any spare motors, batteries, charger, main gears I would gladly buy them from you.

Must be nitro's with oversize fuel tanks [sm=biggrin.gif][sm=biggrin.gif][sm=biggrin.gif]

TRex600E - 5000mah batteries, 6mins
TRex450S - 2200mah batteries, 7mins
Twister Storm 3D - 1800mah batteries, 7mins

TRex450 Scale - 2200mah batteries, 5 mins

Don't see anything wrong with a 5 minute flight time AND remember depends on your style of flying !
Good luck resolving your issues anyways.

25-30 minutes flight time is ridiculous and unrealistic. maybe this is the norm for co-axial helis but my i cant fly for more than 6 minutes on any of my birds.

try to tell that to the guy at the lhs that you expect a 25 minute flight on a single cell lipo and he will think you're completely mad.

lol on most helicopters, or electric 10 minutes is max, and 5-6 minutes is what you will be getting. 20-25 minutes I don't know any helicopters that will do that

What heli's do you have? and what batteries are you using?
I'm sure we'd all like 20 minute plus flight times.

What is a good FP heli that can get good flight time out of? Is there any that will get a min of 10min flight time? I am new to heli's and will be wanting to get a outside FP heli, with good flight, woudl like it to be a all around friendly durable heli.

Thanks

there are plenty decent fp heli1s for under $200.check out helidirect.com,bananahobby.com amainhobby.com.you can find good and bad reveiws on all the heli`s made.you just have to find something in your price range and level. you know like do you want to spend $600 for something your going to crash in a day.or $200 for one that if you did crash it wont take another $200 to fix.honestly for the money you can get walkera and e-sky heli`s for under $200 and their cheap to repair.in a year after all the money you saved by not buying and crashing the $600 heli`s cause they are exspincive to fix. you can step up. this is just my opinion

You can get an Esky HoneyBee FP for around $100. If it's set up right, it can get a good 20 minutes of flight from a premium 7.4v, 1300mAh, 18C (or more) LiPo battery.

On my coaxial helis (I have lots of them), I never get more than 10 minutes of flight, and it's usually closer to 6 - 8 minutes.
