Default RE: Just bought used 1/6 M5 Stuart Tank-

I have got to stay away from ebay---I have way more of this stuff now than any sane person could ever need-- This tank hobby is very addicting-------In the last month and a half I have bought==(4) 1/6 M5 stuarts==(2) 1/6 hummers==(1) 1/24 abrams==(1) used don't know the scale "off-name tank"===And mabe one or two that I may still be the high bidder on???---
This is for sure the last for a while,I hope. The problem is this stuff is just so dam cheap,All the above stuff for less than a upper level Tamiya tank. But I am getting a sizeable collection to say the least. BIGMIG

P.S. I had my pool table full of 1/16 and 1/12 scale tanks and misc-vehicles,built shelves to display them in one of the spare beedrooms. Now the pool table is getting full again, here is a picture of it as it sets today again with three more 1/6 scale tanks and hummer's arriving this coming week. And also a couple of small scale tanks arriving.I'm going to take them all outside when the weather gets nice and get a group picture of them all togeather, should be quite a picture.

1 more Stuart and you'll have a platoon! Did you order a 1/6 German tank yet?

SOLD-- I will be watching for one of those at the right price. Some dude on the bay has one for close to $400 dollars.Think he will have it for a while,I want one but not that bad. BIGMIG

P.S. hey stuff there was a whole set of road wheels for sale just a few days back that didn't sell, starting bid was $20.00 dollars.Thought that was pretty cheap for a whole set of spares.I allmost bought them just in case I happen to find one to buy,but without having one they would be no use to me.

I just bought my first 1/16 Stuart. Maybe you know the answer to this. Is there any difference between a 1/6 Motorworks Stuart and a 1/6 21st Century one?

congrats on your stuarts. I cant seem to find my manual and I cant remember if the battery charger shuts off automatically or not. Any chance you have your manual and can pass on the information? I seem to recall that it took 12 hours to charge the battery...but the last time I charged it was back in 2005.!! Any help is appreciated.!

Hello Losttourist,
No the battery will not shut it self off. This is what the manual says===="A new battery should have been charged at least 18 hours before using the M5 stuart tank for the first time. After first time use, recharge the battery for at least 14 hours after each use.Never charge the battery longer than 30 hours".

Just a side note for you===A plug in timer works great, set it for the start time and the stop time and then if you forget it will not be a problem until the start time again the next day.(works great) hope this helps you out and Thanks. BIGMIG

Hey BIGMIG thanks for the quick reply! And that timer hint is a great idea. Now I remember always putting a piece of tape on the battery telling my the time to shut it off....naturally a plug in timer is easier and fool proof!

In case your interested..here's a link to my tank in action.

thanks again.

nice video losttourist. I see you filmed that in the Haliburtan Highlands I'm just a 30 minute drive from Haliburton in Cardiff.
I wonder how hard it would be to convert one of these Stuarts into a British Honey? other than re-working the turret what about the hull?

I wish I could watch a lot of this stuff on youtube and here on the forum, but I'm on a stone age telephone company system and it is
just a pain to try and watch these.I have lived here for 37 years and have had to deal with this jipo phone company for all these years.I'm tired of all this slow speed crap and will be going to satilite here soon.Wish I could watch your tank in action-----------

I just go to "ebay rc tanks"then when it loads up I type in "1/6 tanks"in the search window. But I don't know if you guys outside the U.S. get into the same ebay we have here. There was just 2 M5 Stuarts that sold for less than $150.00 dollars, and around 50 to 60 dollars shipping to U.S. locations. If this is what you were refering to.There has been a lot of these tanks for sale lately.

It looks like BIGMIG is gaining on me. I actually traded one Stuart off so Im down to seven. As far as I know the Motorworks and 21st are the same thing.

Thanks! Wow what a small world. I no longer live up there but I do go back regularly as I have family up there etc. As for the conversion to the British Honey, I believe its definitely a possibility. The turret would be the easiest , its the Hull you would have to do some creative work , hatches etc.

I'm not real happy with the guy I bought my 1/6 hummer from, paid him enough for shipping so he would send it UPS and he sends it USPS snail mail. The tracking number for USPS is worthless,it tells you nothing about its movement.Bought another 1/12 panzer today
also just because it was so darn cheap, didn't realy want or need another one.But what the heck,if you have three you may as well have four.Going to post some pictures of the big machines I work on so I can buy the little machines I like to work on=(TANKS)
BIGMIG

P.S. when you think working on a few wires in a tank is tough, you should try one of these bad boy's.

I buy the HL 1/24 for spare parts - turret ring, airsoft gun, elevation and turrel motors and upper wire harness. All these things are usefull in a RC tank conversion.

Hey thomasjohnmurphy,
That is a smart way to get parts and you even get a few more parts you didn't mention. The trick is getting them at the right price.
